Overview

About the property

Cabin (for 4 people) is 1 mile to Bass Lake & 23 miles to Yosemite.

Relax and reconnect with family in a restored, 1945, cabin on nine acres that backs to open forest. Sleep in supportive beds and wake to sounds of birds singing in a bubbling fountain. View distant, granite peaks and watch deer and wild turkey as you sip morning coffee on a wrap-around deck! Spend your days exploring Yosemite and Bass Lake. Ride an old, logging train; hike up a granite dome; feel the mist of waterfalls; raft down the Merced River; swim, fish, or paddle in Bass Lake. Cook meals in a fully stocked kitchen with a spacious, old-fashioned butler's pantry. Watch the sun set and moon rise over the Sierras while owls call and frog serenade. Play table games, share a Pixar movie, or read books. Snuggle up by a cozy fireplace and plan tomorrow's adventures. Make life-long, family memories here. Here, in my beloved childhood home.

Setting: Two lovingly restored (1945) cabins sit on nine acres of spectacular, pine-covered land that is surrounded by U.S. Forestry land. You are renting the larger of the two cabins. Another guest may or may not be renting the smaller cabin. This lovely property is less than one mile from the Bass Lake Boat Launch; 1.5 miles from Miller's Landing Resort; and 24 miles from the entrance to Yosemite National Park and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.

Amenities: There are three bedrooms: (1) master with king-size bed, sitting area, and extensive library; (2) guest with queen-size bed; and (3) loft with queen-size bed and a large, oak desk. Loft is accessed through the master. Both bedrooms are very large and you cannot see from the loft into the master. Cabin has one bathroom with jetted tub. There is a fireplace; central heat & air; ceiling fans in kitchen, master bedroom, and loft. There is high-speed, wireless Internet, TV, and an Apple TV with access to Netflix, HBO GO, Hulu, and family movies. There is a Blu-Ray DVD player with numerous movies. Deck has large, Weber grill with stocked propane. Kitchen has microwave, stove/oven, dishwasher, refrigerator with ice maker, coffee maker, waffle iron, mixer, blender, and Cuisinart, etc.

Supplies, Parking, and Safety: High-quality linens (e.g., pillows, sheets, blankets, bath towels, and beach towels) are provided. Cabin has toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, bath soap, dishwashing soap, and laundry detergent. For children, there is a Baby Bjorn travel crib, Graco Pack N' Play, toys, books, games, and family movies. Property has covered carport and plenty of parking for RV/Trailer/Boat. For your safety, houses have fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, propane gas detector, and first-aid kit.

Background: Thank you for considering my childhood home for your trip. Sharing this special place with you and your loved ones allows me to maintain and improve it. I sincerely hope you will enjoy your stay and treasure the memories you create here. My eight-year-old twins are always excited to arrive and sorry to leave the 'mountain home.'

Interaction with Guests: I sincerely wish I could meet you and thank you for choosing my home for your trip. However, I am not on the property during guest stays. My Mom's best friends host the property and maintain the beautiful, landscaped grounds. They live 1/4 mile away and are available if you need anything.

Rules: Please no pets, animals, or smoking as my husband is a kidney-transplant patient with severe allergies. Four (4) people (i.e., adults, children, and infants) are the maximum allowed number of guests on the property during your stay. There is only one bathroom.

About Leah

I am a mother of eight-year-old twins and an economics professor. I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people. I love hiking in the Sierras with my friends and family. Just looking at maps of Bass Lake, Yosemite, and the Eastern Sierra makes me smile. My favorite poet is Robert Frost. I listen to alternative and classic rock. Watching Vikings is my guilty pleasure.

I went to school at UC Santa Cruz and UW Madison. I work at Cal State Northridge and live near Agoura Hills in Southern California.

Leah purchased this cabin in 1966

Why Leah chose Wishon

This is my childhood home. It has been in my family for the past 50 years. The property has only been sold once. The original owner worked at the North Fork Mill and hand-built these two houses in the 1940s. He lived in the cottage while building the cabin. My parents spent many years upgrading the houses and landscaping the property. I miss them and wish they could see how much their grandchildren enjoy this place. I love the home and this area. It has been an incredible blessing to take my children to the same places where I played, hiked, and swam as a child! I owe a debt of gratitude to my guests as they help me keep this place.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin really has its own personality. The wood walls and old brick fireplace are so warm and inviting. The slight ripples in the hand-poured glass of the massive windows in the living room harken back to simpler times. Sitting on the wrap-around deck is a perfect way to start or end your day. I love to watch birds singing and bathing in the fountain; to look at the Peckinpah Mountain range at sunset; and to see the Milky Way framed by towering ponderosa pines at night. The property is so quiet and peaceful --allowing you to really relax and sleep soundly at night.

Such a cute, homely cabin surrounded by nature!!

  • 5 of 5

We loves this cabin! It was so homely and comfortable and inviting! Clean, fully stocked, plenty of living space. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. We enjoyed watching the wild life all around! We woke every morning to deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, and birds chirping. The view from each window is breath taking! Thank you for sharing the beautiful home with us!!

Perfect for our family get-away

  • 5 of 5

This home and the property are so gorgeous! The house had absolutely everything we needed (and more) for our family get away to Bass Lake. We were lucky enough to see a mama deer and not one, but TWO fawns pass through the property before we left. Thank you, Leah for opening your home to us - we will cherish the memories made here!

Wonderful stay at this charming cabin in Wishon

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed at the larger cabin in July 2018. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this house to anyone looking to visit Bass Lake and the surrounding area. The cabin is very well maintained, the kitchen is fully stocked and makes it easy to cook meals at the house. Our children loved all the toys they found in the closet and I couldn't pry myself away from the book shelf (Leah has wonderful selection of classic literature). The beds were comfy, there were plenty of towels in the bathroom and we loved the outdoor patio space where we hung out most of the time. The drive to the lake was about 5 minutes, so it was easy for us to come home for nap times for my toddler. Overall, great time at the Bass Lake thanks to Leah and her charming cabin! We will be back!

11/10 experience

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the most wonderful time in this cabin during our trip! The comfort and coziness almost tricked me into thinking I was living in my own home. However, the scenery made a lasting impression on us and was breathtaking. From the tall trees to the deer that came up to one of the bedroom’s window, I’ve never felt so close to beautiful Mother Nature. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in this cabin.

Sunset Magazine named Bass Lake as one of 'The West's Best Lakes.' It is a wonderful lake for swimming, boating, fishing, and water skiing. Yosemite has world-class waterfalls, granite domes, and hiking. The Sierra Scenic Byway is a beautiful and rugged wilderness area to explore, especially if you have a four-wheel drive vehicle.
