About Don Durner

Our children grew up summering with their cousins at our house on the cape, and have great memories of long days at the beach, the 'Barn', go carts and trampolines, and drive-in movie adventures. Now they bring their own children to create their own family stories. The house is laid out so that each group has its own 'retreat' space yet plenty of great community space. Sometimes, we even go without the kids and enjoy a whole different Cape experience. We want your experience to be as enjoyable.

A wonderful place to stay at the Cape

  • 4 of 5

The house was amazing. Big abd spacious with all the amenities you could need. The beach chairs are like brand new and very useful. Perfect location. The only draw backs are beds upstairs aren't very comfortable and not having trash pick up. For the amount of money we paid trash could have been included. It was a major inconvenience. But otherwise the house is great. The cleaning lady didn't arrive till 6:40 on our day of arrival. We had already moved in. So we sat outside while she did her job and 2 hours later the house was sparkling!

Cape Cod House

  • 3 of 5

This house was good for our needs, having a child- not a fancy place with things that could be broken, and lots of private beds. The yard was great for our Family reunion on the Saturday of our stay, especially having a grill and lobster pot to use. It is close to lots of beaches and places to swim, kayak, hike, bike. I was disappointed that there was a smell of cigarettes when we arrived, even though it was listed as a non-smoking property. The kitchen accessories could stand some updating- stove, pots and pans. The privacy offered by having the 4 bedrooms on 3 different levels offered privacy, and the beds were comfortable. The house could use a thorough cleaning, perhaps because we came in just after the summer season. All in all, it worked out well for our needs.

Owner's Response: Hi Louise. Glad the house worked out for your Reunion. Yes, we do set up for families with kids, we have our own grandkids out often. Most likely the "smoking" smell was from a DuraFlame log used in the fireplace, as they don't have a real wood smell. Thanks for the review. Don

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your house for our vacation! It was perfect. We had the most relaxing vacation than we've had in years thanks to being able to have the comforts of home and not having to go out for every meal. It saved us a lot of money and we were able to enjoy a different part of Cape Cod that we haven't visited before. We will definitely be looking into this rental for our annual vacation next year. The house was in such a prime spot to do a lot of tourist type things, haha!

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

My family usually spends a week on the cape in the Dennisport/Harwich area, this was the first time we stayed in Eastham. The house was clean, spacious and very well equipped with everything we could possibly need. Lots of books, games, beach toys, coolers... The nearby beaches were all great. We especially enjoyed Reilly Park on Great Pond. Nearby restaurants were good, The Fleming Donut Shack and Mandy's Creamery were both fabulous!!!!

Big house, good location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here - the house is very big and in a quiet area. It has a lot of amenities (beach chairs, grill, etc). It's also a very quick drive to the national seashore ocean beaches and some nice bay beaches, as well as in to Orleans or Eastham. Perfect location for exploring a lot of the Cape.

Don was very helpful (and quick) in answering all my questions. Would love to stay here again if we come back to the Cape in the future!

Our favorite vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

We have been renting this home for years, and it has quickly become our favorite vacation spot. The house is open and spacious, maintaining a light beachy feel but with all the comforts of a real home. There is a VERY large bedroom upstairs with two double beds and lots of floor space for an additional air mattress – makes a great kids room! The private bedroom and bathroom downstairs are perfect for couples seeking a little privacy – and the walk out entrance makes it feel like your own space. The house sits on a large, wooded plot of land in between two quiet streets. The front of the house is on a private dead end street, and the back opens up to another small road. There is a large, wooded back yard that protects you from the street, and gives rustic feel to the place. We especially loved having a grill available, and sitting out on the patio makes smores in the chiminea.

The beaches are about a 5-10 minute drive, and you have a multitude of options in the busy summer season. We recommend Nauset Light because its small parking lot limits crowds, but get there early and be prepared to climb some stairs! If you have small children, we recommend Nauset in Orleans – large parking lot and onsite food shack (awesome clam chowder, fried seafood, burgers, ice cream etc). They bay beach is nearby too, and you can see a beautiful sunset there in the evening. There are grocery stores, restaurants and supply stores all within a few miles of the house, and you can even bike directly to the Cape Cod Rail Trail (a former railway line converted into a bike path that runs the length of the Cape –fun activity for when you are beached out!). Eastham itself is pretty centrally located, allowing for easy day trips to Provincetown and Hyannis, where you can catch a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket. Plus, Eastham is famous for its national seashore protected beaches – those dunes!

All in all, we would recommend this place to families looking for space and for a great romantic retreat for a few couples. This house has come to feel like our second home over the years, and we look forward to seeing the improvements and decoration changes every year. Our week in Eastham is one of our favorites every year!

Car: necessary

Best beaches on the Cape! National Seashore ocean beaches, Nauset Light and Coast Guard, with their classic Cape Dunes and Nauset beach in Orleans( with the famous Liam’s onion rings and fresh seafood) are minutes away. First Encounter bay beach as well as several fresh water ponds, great for the young ones, are also nearby. You can bike for miles on the Rail Trail, sail, kayak or fish (charter or ocean beach). Close to markets large and small, great restaurants, tons of ice-cream parlors, mini-golf and kid friendly activities . Whale watching, winery tours, wild life sanctuary, surfing and boogie boarding, cinemas, and shopping are all close at hand. There is even a drive-in theater which doubles as a huge flee market weekends. Centrally located, 25 minutes to busy Hyannis or Provincetown, yet you still can enjoy Eastham’s quiet restfulness.
