When I say last minute I mean last second. We booked on Friday AM and arrived Friday PM! Kathie at Sea Island Rentals was great to work with! Quick and thorough communication. What else do you want.
The condo was larger than I expected and easily accommodate me and my daughter. It would be perfect for a family of 3 or 4. Especially with the half bath. We arrived to find it in spotless condition, extremely clean.
The kitchen had everything we needed including a steamer pot that we utilized more than once to boil fresh local shrimp. The washer/dryer stack was also nice to have. Plenty of room in the dining/living room area that opened to a deck. 2 large couches (one made into a bed) and a large HD TV. WIFI was also quick. Bedroom was a good size with a comfortable twin bed, a walk in closet, and dresser space. Also had a flat screen and a private deck! The full bath had plenty of room. Both decks overlooked marsh that created an especially awesome view at high tide. We could also see the Hunting Island beach.
I want to reiterate how much I liked this condo.
The Harbor Island beach is a 3-4 minute walk from the back deck. The closest pool is about the same distance. The “big pool”, tennis courts, and club house are a 8-10 minute walk. A small market called Marsh Tacky is located less than ½ mile from the Harbor Island gate. You can find drinks (soda, beer, wine), snacks, condiments, and sandwiches there. The closest large store is a Family Dollar about 10 minutes away and had a larger selection of staples. Gay Seafood Company is across the bridge, maybe 5 minutes from the gate. We enjoyed fresh shrimp, flounder, and grouper from this market. It was nice to have an updated kitchen to use! I would also suggest a shrimp burger from the Shrimp Shack across from Gay Shrimp company. Beaufort is about 20 minutes.
A note on Harbor Island: If you are looking for a “Myrtle Beach close to everything” experience this is not it. You will be disappointed. If you are looking for a relaxing laid back beach trip, you will love it. Most days it was me, my daughter, and 30 other people on 2 miles of beach! We loved it. I fished the surf, we walked the beach at low tide and found “occupied” shells, horseshoe crabs, and a sand dollar or two. We built sand castles. We watched the variety of birds hunt fish and even saw a few dolphins! I was also lazy and watched her play with a few other kids while I enjoyed an adult beverage.
We cannot wait to go back.
