Overview

About the property

Our cottage is located only 1/2 block away from one of the quietest, family friendly beaches in Union Pier (McKinley Street Beach). In a secluded setting it is surrounded by tall trees and set far back from all roads. It is difficult to find and we like it that way.

The master bedroom (with a king size bed) on the first floor, with a door that opens to a large deck and screened in gazebo. The adjacent living room has a vaulted ceiling and wood burning fire place. A new, fully equipped kitchen with custom cabinets, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances is located between the living room and cozy dining area, with large windows and a patio door that leads to the spacious deck and Weber grill.

On the second floor is the 2nd bedroom with a queen size bed. This bedroom and adjacent bath are private with views of a huge front yard sheltered by 100 year old tall trees. The 2nd floor also has a sleeping loft with a full size futon sofa that can sleep 2. All ceilings on the second floor soar to 12 ft.

Our deck is equipped with a gas grill and a screened in dinning area. There is also additional sitting outside the gazebo for a more open feeling.

The setting is private with only two neighbors nearby; one in a single family home and the other in a cottage identical to our own adjoined to ours.

We think our cottage is wonderful, but please keep in mind that this is not a party house and is much too small for a wedding, a family reunion or a party with a large group of people. Also keep in mind that we only have parking for TWO cars.

Modern and clean

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week here. The space is modern (modern appliances, new bath, etc.) and clean. Very short and easy walk to McKinley Beach. Great outdoor spaces on the deck and the screened-in porch. We would recommend to others and will return.

This cottage has it all and then some!

  • 5 of 5

I am not even sure where to begin. This was one, if not the nicest vacation rentals we have stayed in. Mike and Rosemary were simply fantastic! This cottage is a renters dream. It was so clean and well maintained. It is very cozy and you feel at home. I loved the fresh bouquet of flowers on the table! From the top of the line appliances, Calphalon pots/pans, ice maker (huge bonus) extremely comfortable beds, super soft linens and towels, Bose stereo, the shed with everything you could possibly need to take to the beach, the spices for cooking, etc. I could go on and on! We loved the 3 different decks for sitting. We spent every evening eating dinner in the screened gazebo. We loved sitting around the fire as it was unusually chilly for early September. Plenty of fire wood and the fire starting logs were an added bonus. I loved getting up in the morning with my coffee and sitting on the deck listening to the birds. So peaceful!

The beach is a short walk. Neighbors were very friendly. Grocery stores close by. I highly recommend staying at this stunning cottage. We will definitely be back.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Less than a two minute walk to the beach--really, (half block walk to a beautiful, not crowed beach)!

This has everything we were looking for in a beach rental.

The owners provide plenty of beach gear...6 or 8 Tommy Bahama beach chairs and smaller beach chairs for smaller kids, several beach umbrellas... all kinds of beach toys like floaters, beach balls, and sand toys...not to mention a nice-sized wagon to carry everything.

The cottage itself, has great, firm, comfortable mattresses in both bedrooms with high quality sheets and plush bath and beach towels. It has a new kitchen with new SS appliances, granite counter tops plus a wonderful Boshe dishwasher.

There is also a brand new marble bathroom on the first floor with duel-headed shower heads over the bathtub. How cool is that?!

Although, we took our vacation to get the kids away form TV, they seemed to be glued to the large, high-def, 3-D TV. (There were all kinds of DVD's to watch and many 3-D DVD's for the kids).

The fireplace looked like it would be perfect for cooler nights, although we did not use it during our stay. We also noticed a lot of fire wood stored in back (covered) and starter logs to get a fire really going.

Great out-door spaces too: a gazebo, a fire-pit and out-door spaces for lounging, (there were very comfortable outdoor chairs and tables on the deck, right outside our bedroom door).

In short, this is the highest quality rental we have had in Union Pier, (certainly at this price or even cottages that were priced much higher) and we have stayed at quite a few over the years!

By the way, we almost forget to mention, the owners were great and very helpful too!

We will return!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your enthusiastic review! We were thrilled that you enjoyed your stay at our home and that you found it to be your perfect beach get-away! We appreciate your mentioning so many of the things that we have added to our cottage to enhance our guests' stay, including our brand new Bosch dishwasher. We also want to thank you for taking such wonderful care of our cottage. Even our housekeeper mentioned it. You did not have to wash and iron the bed sheets--that is work WE do! However, it was so thoughtful and considerate of you to do that for us. We hope that you will keep our cottage in mind for your future trips to Union Pier. We would love to have you back!

LOVELY GEM

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is delightful! You can tell a lot of work was put into the interior design and the cutest decorations (lamps, sailboat, frames, etc). Everything is new and upgraded. The bathrooms are very nice, the beds were comfortable, very tidy and clean. It is a very lovely place. It is close to new buffalo town and the four winds casino. The beach is only a few minutes to walk and it is private. We had access to a shed filled with some beach chairs and a wagon. We had everything we needed and the owners was quick to respond, nice and helpful with suggestions. We only wish we stayed longer. You will not be disappointed!

Fabulous Union Pier Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this Union Pier cottage 1/2 block from the lake. Our hosts were fabulous, making certain that everything was to our liking. The cottage is well-appointed, with both the inside and the outside decks and gazebo fit for relaxing and entertaining. We enjoyed Lake Michigan sunsets, sunny days on the beach, relaxing by the fire pit, grilling on the front deck, and playing card games in the gazebo. We love spending summer vacations in Union Pier and this cottage is now our favorite place to stay in Union Pier. We plan to return.

Owner's Response: Marty and Sue, You are the perfect guests and we look forward to next year when we hope to see you again!! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and used all the outside areas of the cottage. We know the beach is great but it's nice to have a comfortable home base to come back to at the end of the day. Our best regards to you! Mike and Rosemary

Fabulous updated cottage by lovely beach

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at this wonderful Union Pier cottage. It is imaginatively decorated and extremely well cared for. The three separate seating areas on the wraparound deck are a great asset, as are the thoughtful details in the cottage itself. The beds are excellent (rare enough in rental properties) and the linens are top notch (even rarer in beach rentals). McKinley Beach (1/2 block away) is small and not overpopulated. In my many years in the area, I was surprised to discover it. In short, pretty much a perfect two bedroom rental for a small family or two couples.

Owner's Response: We are trilled that you appreciated our decorating since all decorative items and artwork are either our own or items we have collected over many years. We are also delighted that you noticed the quality of our mattresses. Whenever we vacation one of our main concerns is getting a good night's rest and firm, comfortable mattresses make that possible. We want our guests to experience the same and we made quality beds our priority. Thank you for your appreciation of our efforts and for your thoughtful review!
