Nice house

  • 4 of 5

We spent 2016 Thanksgiving weekend at Ruth's house.

Honestly, we were really scared before arriving, because of a recent very bad review. Lucky us, the bad review resulted to be mostly nonsense.

Yes, it is an old house. And yes, there are lots of stuff inside. Not for you if you are looking a modern luxury hotel or alike.

But if you look for a nice place to stay, that feels like home, this is the place to be.

Everything was perfectly clean and ready to use. The owner took a good care of placing lots of notes inside the house, instructing how to use everything and where to find the stuff. Even how to build a fire in the fireplace! We loved that.

Every room had it's own heater and electric blanket to ensure you don't feel the winter. Some people may prefer a central heater system, but everything worked as a charm and we did not feel any cold inside.

The owner was always very nice and quick responding our previous questions by email. We did not need to ask anything once at the house, because everything was very well indicated, and nothing was missing.

I was intrigued about those bad reviews complaining about a ouija board... Well, the house has A LOT of entertainment resources, including music, movies, and board games like Trivial, Pictionary, etc. One of this board games happens to be a ouija game. Is this really a problem for some people? You can just ignore it, as we did.

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the lack of internet and dishwasher, but this is clear if you read the description. The cell coverage in this area is pretty good, so we did not miss the wifi so much.

We will come back in the future.

Terrible Place!

  • 1 of 5

I usually don't write reviews, but this one I had to say something. OMG! It's appalling. This was the worst place I have ever stayed in my entire life. I was shocked when I walked in, no words to describe the disgust. I have to echo the reviews of the guest in 2014. Sad that this place has not changed in two years. I too feel completely cheated. If I could give this place a negative star, I would. It is so worn down and dilapidated, I'm shocked the owner rents this place out. It's true- it seemed like the owner just packed up and left for the weekend. There were clothes everywhere, pantry and fridge were stocked with expired food- gross, and the dishes were dirty- yuck. The pantry also acts as the medicine cabinet for the bathroom, with expired medication. Also, the other bathroom looked like an outhouse. You have to walk through the outhouse bathroom to get to the fourth bedroom. The entire time I was there I wanted to vomit. The house was so dirty and had spiders/insects everywhere. I was looking forward to a restful weekend, but instead I left more tired and worn down. The towels were more worn out than my cleaning rags. The bed sheets were paper thin. Everything in the house was old, not to mention spooky. Not only was witchcraft stuff in the house and a book for witches, there was a chest full of weird costumes/masks. There was nothing cozy about the house. In fact, it reminded me of Bates Motel. Needless to say, I will never go near that house again, let alone stay there.

Ruth's Riverhouse review

  • 4 of 5

The house was fine and suited us. We didn't find the extra key that was mentioned in the instructions but we were OK with the one key. The house is homey and reminded us of the Tahoe cabin our parents had when we were kids. It's well equipped. We enjoyed our stay. It was very hot when we stayed there--so be sure to bring clothes suited to hot weather if you're staying in the summer. Very short walk to the river. Pleasant environment. Korbel winery is close by. The tour and tasting room are fun.

Loved it so much, we came back!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Ruth's River House. We loved it so much last summer, that we decided to return. We were three couples and three 13-year-old boys. The house is so comfortable. Nothing fancy, but that's part of its appeal, especially for families with kids. And so reasonably priced. And the beach is wonderful. It's a private beach, just for the surrounding neighborhood, so it was never crowded. Bring water shoes and floaties. It's a rocky beach, not a sandy beach. The kitchen has everything you need and then some. Ruth is a delight to work with. Very responsive and warm. Last year I ended up leaving a favorite article of clothing behind, and she was nice enough to mail it back to me. We love this place, and plan to return.

Great find

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Ruth's guest house. It was a quick walk to a great beach and we enjoyed downtown gurenvelle. If the pictures and other reviews are what you are looking for, then definitely recommended. Ruth was very helpful and quick to reply. We stayed with 4 adults and 4 young kids, plenty of space.
