About this property

Rich & Dana's Ocean Front Condo With Spectacular Sunsets

Our condo is located in Bldg 25, #2253 on 'Malibu Row', as the owners call it...because everyone wants to live with unobstructed blue and white water views and sunsets from our lanais. Listen to the beach's surf surrounding the famous Kaliaka Rock (where Dole Pineapple Company would drop their harvested pineapples onto the out-going barges before the wharf was built on the east end of Molokai). Relax at the quiet pool which is only a few steps away. Given that this is a tropical area, be aware that there are insects, wild turkeys etc. For a quiet get-away from the world old Hawaii awaits you. No traffic, with one traffic light on the island. Watch the waves on your beach front lanai (approx. 100 yards), and the beautiful sunsets at night with the soft glow of Honolulu lights in the distance. Over looks the Kaluakoi Golf Course. A five minute walk will bring you to the famous three mile beach of Papohaku Park, and the resort pool is only a few feet away. Walk the beach where only your footprints are left. Then, there is always surfing on the east end of West Molokai Resort's private beach. Hiking and biking trails are around the resort, and horseback riding is adjacent to the property. And for golfers, there is a golf course on the north end of the island. Our upstairs Condo (with a king size master bed and a queen size sofa bed) gives you a great overall view of the white and blue waters of the ocean, and privacy with a lanai where you can eat and watch your sunrise and sunset with gorgeous views of Diamond Head. And, if you are planning on a wedding you can have a beautiful, memorable celebration on our white sand beach, as other lovers do, with Diamond Head on Oahu in the background, lying beyond our azure waters. This is a newly remodeled rental including furniture, etc. Please No Smoking, No pets, except registered seeing eye dogs. Check-in is after 4pm and check- out is by 10am. AED located at bottom of stairs for CPR needs. Ferry service from Maui was terminated, due to more limited nonstop flights to the island. Hawaiian Airlines' Ohana (www.hawaiianairlines.com} offers daily service to 48-passenger turboprops from Honolulu, Maui's Kahului airport and Lanai, while Mokulele Airlines (www.mokuleleairlines.com: and Makani Kai Air (www.makanikaiair.com) offer daily service from Honolulu on nine-passenger turboprops. Modest but Comfortable
As others have said, this may not be the place for everyone. It is not fancy and there are some things which could stand repair, but it was well equipped and comfortable. We visited in February so I cannot comment on how hot it could be in summer but it is well ventilated. The loft area is a bit tight, so we kept our luggage downstairs. The bed was comfortable. The view is beautiful, was perfect for me working remotely. We loved the lack of crowds, seeing only a handful of people on both the beach in front and three mile beach just down the road. I will say the documentation provided both through VRBO and the binder on site could stand updating - some of the travel/sightseeing information is outdated and there were three different sets of instructions for connecting to wifi, it was a struggle to find the current info. However Dana was prompt in getting back to me when I messaged her for the current wifi password. Thank you, we enjoyed our stay :)

Excellent holiday spot
We really enjoyed staying at Dana’s place on Molokai! The views from the condo were amazing and the sound of the ocean at night led to excellent sleeps. The pool is close by as is the beach. It is a quiet complex great for a low key get away, far from the crowds of Maui and the other more developed islands. We will be back!

It’s all about the view
The view makes the place. The building had not been cleaned properly in some time. The sliding door failed during the week leading to mosquitoes that attacked my wife with a vengeance. Fortunately they didn’t like me. Fix the door and clean up the place and you’ve got yourself a true gem!

Super Oceanfront Studio with Loft in need of TLC
The reality of this place is it's a gem, but in a state of disrepair. Nothing can compare to the spectacular view of ocean waves breaking on volcanic beach just 50 yards away, and the sound of it pounding in the night. Incredible. But the place is weathering away--so much is rusting, the screens have holes, window louvers don't open anymore, and a film of red dust is pervasive, blown by wind and weather. If you can deal with OK clean, unusable worn Teflon pans, a sink that drips, a rusting electrical panel, and the feeling of accumulated salt spray on everything, it's just fine.

Out of the way
A nice property although out of the way. As the description says, it is on a resort that used to be a golf course. Room itself is very nice, close enough to the beach that you could hear the waves from bed.

Great sea view and sunsets right on the beach.
Overall very nice if you are looking for a peaceful beach experience without the crowds. Very comfortable accommodations except no A/C. It was a bit warm some afternoons but nice breeze kept it cool enough. I would definitely rent it again.

Rich and Dana's beach condo
Nice beachfront condo - great deck for whalewatching, etc. Quiet neighbors. All the amenities. The landline phone was beeping so we unplugged it. The Wifi password didn't work for us, so I tried texting the owners but got no help. Another issue was finding the condo. We arrived after dark with no map of the condo resort area, and no building number. Luckily we were able to contact the housekeeper and a neighbor who helped us find the condo. In retrospect these were minor issues in comparison to the unforgettable beach scene, the sounds of surf, the birdsong and butterfiies, and miles of beautiful beaches to explore.

Island paradise
Great location. Second time staying here in this area. This condo has a better location and overall better condition. Could still use a little maintenance, i.e. fix screens, upstairs TV does not appear to work, and there is a hodgepodge of kitchen utensils but they are adequate, nothing for baking. Condo association rules appear to need updating as it is evident that pets are allowed as we saw several dogs, and some smoking outside. But overall a great place to stay.

Room with a view
The highlight of this unit is definitely the view over Hepuhi beach! Overall the space was comfortable for the 2 of us staying, my friend on the sofa bed and me in the loft. The doors to the lanai were difficult to move from being weathered. The heavy screen door fell off the track and the glass doors we couldn’t really close easily. The burners on the stove top are quite crooked and need some adjustment. Overall it is a comfortable space with a wonderful view! Thank you for sharing it!

Great getaway!
Location is perfect! Beautiful view. Wifi worked perfectly. Bed was comfy. It was hot during our stay, very muggy. Very. Not the owner’s fault of course! But, there was a floor fan that we’d lug downstairs then upstairs for sleeping. Two would be nice. But no complaints ! We’d stay again !

Beautiful view front row Kepuhi
I loved my stay. The view was perfect, condo comfortable, clean, and well supplied with all the comforts of home. The cross breeze was great for keeping cool, the pool and grounds gorgeous, and surrounding beaches and hikes were very stunning. Enjoyed having more time on the west end, as I usually stay near Kaunakakai. Thank you for such a great stay.

Relaxing piece of laid back paradise
We had a fantastic time at Rich and Dana's condo. Molokai, and probably this condo, isn't right for everyone, but it was perfect for us. This was our 6th trip to Hawaii in the last 20 years. We've been to Oahu, Kauai twice, Maui, and the Big Island. We've stayed in condos, guest houses, bungalows and hotels. This one was probably the most dated and had the most maintenance issues...but it was also our favorite. Location: You can't beat this. Right on the ocean, sound of the waves all night, very quiet, laid back area. Yep, there's a boarded up old pro shop right in front of the Lanai. Doesn't block your view though, and it's not ugly. The abandoned golf course has wonderful hiking/running trails. We don't play golf, so that was perfect. There are some boarded up empty buildings on the property, but the grounds of the occupied condos are immaculately maintained. You have a perfect view of the sunset, but it is tough to choose between that or watching the whales. We saw whales from the Lanai more times than we could possibly count. I'll bring a spotting scope next time. Condo: It was probably built in the late 70s/early 80s, so it's not new, and there are some minor things, but it was extremely clean and there were absolutely no bugs. The wifi worked great, use the password on the fridge. I don't know if the TVs work, we never turned them on. Had full 4G LTE AT&T coverage anyways, enough to check email and make all my Facebook friends jealous with photos. One reviewer mentioned the rusty sub-panel. I'm not an electrician but I do all my own electrical work on the farm. It's just a cover plate, and it appears to function just fine. If it was an issue the power would just shut off, not start a fire. The infamous patio door: It would take a finish carpenter to make this repair, but I found a solution. When you arrive get a six pack of Kona Long Board Lager. When you get to the condo, open one, but keep the bottle cap. Walk out on the lanai, turn around, close both screen doors. There's a slight gap at the top. Just fold the bottle cap in half, use it to prop up the right corner of the right door, which doesn't slide easily. Turn around, sit down, drink your delicious Long Board Lager, and enjoy the view. Just use the other door for the rest of your trip. If it still bothers you, have another. If you drink all six and it still bothers you probably picked the wrong island for your vacation.

Studio Molokai
The view from the Lanai is stunning. The accommodations are B+. Amazing group of people seem to stay or live in this resort area. Especially enjoyed our Canadian friends nightly trumpet homage to the sunset, which are spectacular on the island. Some of the neighboring buildings are boarded up due to developer issues and gives an abandoned feel. While the golf course has not been cared for in years, it can provide a nice running / walking trail. Came for a working vacation and owner does need to fix the wi fi problem. If you want R&R, then this island is the spot. Beautiful beaches with no one to bother you for miles (at least in Jan).

Drift off to sleep to the Hawaiian surf!
My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at the above property on Molokai. Most visitors to Hawaii never visit Molokai, which is a shame. Molokai is like Hawaii frozen in the 1950s, with very rare rentals relative to the other islands, and many pristine beaches with NO ONE else on them but you! It is a very special place if you enjoy privacy and being away from the thronging crowd. That said, however, a couple points should be made to future renters. First, DO NOT expect the kind of active and bustling complex you may be used to elsewhere! The property is largely vacant and for sale, although that only adds to the appeal to the condo owners who remain! The other owners were VERY friendly, bringing some food over as soon as they learned we just arrived and had nothing to eat yet. The remaining owners are a very collegial lot and clearly enjoy their rather unusual (for Hawaii) situation. The original restaurant and many other buildings from the heyday of the property in the 1970s remain shuttered and empty, with overgrown abandoned golf course. That course, no longer fit for golf, though, makes an EXCELLENT walking and jogging track for the residents. The condo where we stayed showed some signs of aging with, a sticking and difficult to slide, sliding patio door. So, if you cherish privacy in Hawaii, and don't mind a few condition issues or property quirks, this can be a real find for you!

Outstanding location, very quiet
We stayed in the condo for three weeks in December. The good: The unit is small, really a studio with a loft, but was comfortable for 3 adults. It is right on the beach with a gorgeous view of the beach and ocean with Oahu occasionally visible on the horizon. The majority of the well-maintained resort grounds and other units are mauka and not visible from inside the condo. While we were there, the surf was high and it completely drowned out any sounds of neighbors or cars. The unit was very clean and while there is no air conditioning the condo has very good ventilation (as long as the wind blows) with Jalousie windows along the back and screened sliders to the lanai on the front. The not so good: Some maintenance would make the condo more attractive. There were holes in some screens, wood rot beside the bathroom window, peeling paint on the lanai sliders and one slider frequently came off its track. It is the sub-tropics and there are biting bugs. Other than a very small store on the grounds, the nearest grocery shopping and restaurants are a half hour drive away. Cell service on the island is very spotty. The bad: We had notified the owner prior to arrival that we needed a phone and internet service in order to conduct mainland business. She assured us that while the island internet was not always up to mainland standards it was operable. When we arrived there was no internet, no phone and no TV. We notified the property manager Julie, who advised us to contact the owner directly. Although the owner was very defensive, she did respond and full services were available by the end of the second day. Julie was very responsive to a couple of other minor issues and should be a renters’ first contact for any problems.

Nice view but the condo is in major need of an upgrade and bug infested.
The area is very pretty. Property complex seems rundown. View from the deck is very nice. Deck furniture and carpet are old and need replacing. Interior of condo is VERY dated and needs a major renovation! Furniture covering are old and dirty with some growing black mold. The place was overrun with bugs which made it very difficult to sleep. I would never stay here again.
