Description

Oak Bluffs Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 4

This quaint cottage, nestled in a quiet neighborhood of Oak Bluffs, is perfect for a romantic getaway, a special place to bring your favorite friends, or a wonderful spot to have a family vacation. Some guests also choose to have a solo retreat to read, write, explore, and re-center. Cottage visitors comment on the welcoming feeling they experience as soon as they walk in the door, and the sweet simplicity of this cozy abode.

The Cottage sleeps 4 easily. There is a queen-sized futon on the ground level, and a king-sized sleeping loft. The living area has a comfy cozy futon, TV (basic cable), DVD player (plenty of DVDs), an activity/game drawer, a portable stereo, and free wifi. The kitchen contains a full-sized stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a Keurig machine - so bring your favorite k-cups! There is a washer/dryer for your use as well. There are plenty of towels and linens, so no need to bring your own.

After a full day of exploring, bike riding, shopping, or finding creative inspiration, enjoy a nice dinner or a bottle of wine on the attached deck. It's a perfect place for star gazing too!

There’s plenty to do within walking distance, and a taxi or public transportation can get you to the other Vineyard towns, so a car is not necessary (but it’s nice to have). The Cottage is a mile from Oak Bluffs Center and the town beaches, so a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute bike ride will bring you to either.

Come make this lovely Cottage the heart of your own Vineyard experience!

A Great Time

  • 5 of 5

Nice cozy place perfect for small groups. Very nice neighbourhood and people. Everything you would need is required. I was here on business so having a SECURE internet network was awesome.

She is very accommodating and easy to deal with, especially as my trip got more complicated.

Close to stores, restaurants, beaches, parks, etc.

Was my favourite place to stay of all the places I stayed at.

Great little place in a great location

  • 5 of 5

This place is perfect for a couple or small family because of the size. It is in a nice location with a short bike ride (the supplied bikes were handy) to downtown Oak Bluffs and a short walk to the neighborhood gem Tony's Market. On a quiet cul-de-sac with a nice little deck suitable for relaxing. Wood rent again!

Perfect! Couldn't ask for more!

This home is beautiful. Small and quaint on a quiet little street. And the bed up in the loft is so insanely comfortable, I wanted to stay yhere all day! Lori is a fantastic host. Her love of this property really shines through in her attention to detail. Every interaction with Lori was kind and professional. I just wish we could have stayed a whole week! We will definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit MV!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for such kind words, Missy! I'm so glad things worked out for you to be able to stay at the Cottage for at least part of your MV adventure. I definitely understand the feeling of wanting to stay "just a little longer"...That happens to me every time! Please do let me know if your travels bring you back to this magical island. The Cottage will happily be your little home away from home : ) Until then....be well and have a fantastic rest of your year!!

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage in a quiet Oaks Bluffs neighborhood....small but cozy, with everything you need for a nice getaway. Close to Oaks Bluffs center, with a variety store just across the street (morning coffee walk!!) Lori was very attentive and one of the best owners I have worked with on Homeaway.

our stay at lori's cottage was such a treat for us!

  • 5 of 5

The ADORABLE cottage was just that. It was decorated very nicely and homey. We decided to cook in one night and stopped at a local grocery store and grilled to our hearts delight . We ate at the outside table and chairs and drove 5 minutes to watch a beautiful sunset. The cottage is near town and beaches- we will be sure to go back in the fall .

Close to downtown, but nice and secluded

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cottage over Memorial Day weekend. It is only a mile from the ferry but feels off the beaten path and secluded. The cottage is well-equipped and the owner, Lori, is super quick with email replies so you know the cottage is well cared for and maintained.

Note, the loft is truly a loft, and requires a climb up and down a pretty steep (but sturdy) ladder. As other reviewers have noted, it is easy once you get used to it, but it might not be for everyone. We had no trouble with it, but I pictured my 75 year old mom trying to do it and realized the loft it isn't ideal for everyone. Luckily, there is sleeping for 2 downstairs if you don't need more.

We loved the outdoor shower and how dark it was at night. This might not be beach front, but for us, the quietness of this location was ideal and the ocean was only a 10-15 minute walk away. Not sure the listing mentions that there are two bikes you can use - but Lori mentions that in the arrival email. It saved us bringing bikes over with us or renting especially since we never actually took the bikes out as we were content walking and rode the buses to Edgartown and Vineyard Haven.

It is a great place - can't think of a single reason we wouldn't stay here again when visiting the island. Loved it!

Owner's Response: That made me smile (and chuckle), Eli! Yes, if I envision my wonderful mother going up and down that ladder, I cringe as well. She definitely opts for the futon : ) I personally love being perched up in the loft, but I understand that it's not for everyone. You were such a joy to have at the Cottage...I hope your travels bring you back to the Vineyard again, and perhaps you can explore the island on bikes this time. It really is wonderful to throw a picnic lunch in your backpack and just start riding until you find that perfect spot on the beach to enjoy your treats! Enjoy your summer!!

Car: not necessary

This lovely cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood setting, but just a few minutes bike ride to the center of Oak Bluffs and town beaches. A car is nice, but not necessary. There's plenty to do within walking distance in Oak Bluffs, and a bicycle, public transportation, or a taxi can get you to other towns and beaches.

Some of our favorite spots on the Vineyard....For beaches - South Beach!! Great waves and free public access. It's a 15 minute drive from the Cottage. (If you are adventurous, it's a 50-minute bike ride) Inkwell beach is just 1 mile away from the Cottage, and State Beach is just 3 miles away.

After a fun day at the beach, you can head into town for dinner, shopping, or to satisfy your sweet tooth at one of the ice cream shops. Another 'must do' is to try to catch the brass ring on the Flying Horses, the nation's oldest platform carousel. There's also a large arcade that stays open into the night.

Walking through the 'gingerbread houses' behind the stores on Circuit Ave in Oak Bluffs takes you back in time and provides for some amazing photo opps. Be sure to visit the Cottage Museum to see what one looks like inside! There is also a Community Sing in the heart of the cottage campground every Wednesday night at 8:00 pm (in season) - quite an experience!

As far as eating, there are so many great places to go on the island, but these are some of our favorites... Offshore Ale in Oak Bluffs is great for casual dining and home-brewed beer. Sitting on the outdoor patio at Nancy's enjoying fried scallops and clams while looking over the harbor makes for a nice casual evening dinner. If you want a great margarita and a nice Mexican dinner while watching your favorite sports on TV, Sharky's Cantina in Oak Bluffs or Edgartown is the place to go. If you are a BBQ fan, Smoke N Bones (right down the street from the Cottage) has awesome smoked BBQ!! Other favorites - Mocha Motts is a great way to start your day - grab a bagel and a coffee and take a short stroll to the town beach and enjoy your breakfast looking out over the gentle waves...and Back Door Donuts (after hours in back of the bakery - usually open until midnight) is THE place to go for the most amazing, melt-in-your-mouth fresh apple fritters! Oh, and the ice cream shops stay open late at nite in-season, so if you have a sweet tooth, you'll be in good company!

There are so many things to do....Great Rock Bight in Chilmark for a nice hike to a beautiful beach...exploring the cliffs at Aquinnah...bird watching tours...bike trails everywhere...shopping in Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, or Vineyard Haven....the list goes on! Something we try to do before heading out to the island. It's gives a detailed calendar of events (and you can filter by town).

We hope that you are able to come and experience the magic of the Vineyard!!
