10 June 2018 update: Lower Puna is reeling from the catastrophic Kilauea eruption that began on 3 May. Over 600 homes and three subdivisions (located in Lava Zones 1 & 2) have been partially or completely destroyed. Ash and VOG (volcanic gasses) are significantly impacting the south and west side of the island as far north as Kona. Our home on Kaloli Point is in one of the best island locations. Kaloli Point is located on a peninsula in Hawaiian Paradise Park (HPP) subdivision 15 miles north of the fissure eruption. Traditionally Kalaoli Point is known to have the best weather in the subdivision. Located in Lava Zone 3, HPP was formed by Mauna Loa volcanic magma in the 1700's. Therefore, our subdivision is not threatened by Kilauea lava. Recent events support the belief that Kilauea and Mauna Loa magma reservoirs are not connected as Mauna Loa remains inactive and shows no indication of change. HPP has not been directly impacted by ash and VOG due to Hawaii's famous trade winds. HOWEVER, HPP homes with water catchment tanks have seen water acidity increases. Our home switched to a licensed water well 6 years ago and is NOT impacted. In fact our mineralized water has a neutral Ph of 7. Access to our home is not impacted as Hilo, the 2nd largest city in Hawaii, is north of Kaloli Point. In fact access has been improved recently with the widening of Hwy 130 to 4 lanes to Shower Drive, HPP's northern most entrance.
NOTE: Private, licensed well water supplies our home with mineralized, Ph neutral water. Homes with catchment tanks are experiencing increased acidity due to island volcanic emissions into upper atmosphere.
NOTE: House truck (97 F-150 ext cab) available for rent to our guests staying 2 weeks or more. Blend in with the locals. Nothing fancy but reliable. 6' bed suitable for surf boards!

Our Texas 97 Ford F150 has retired to sunny Hawaii and likes to show you the sights if you are staying at our home for 14 nights or more. My rates are generally below the rental rates for late model vehicles available at the airport. Turo actually manages my truck rental so they collect their fee also. Please visit my trucks listing (#28065) at Turo website for more information and quote. To find my truck enter 'Keaau Hawaii' for location, then, most critically, you must enter 6:00 PM for both pickup and drop off. The reason for this is that my truck (and home) caretaker has a day job that makes it highly problematic to meet truck rental customers at airport 24/7. However if you are renting my house he will do his utmost to be sure you are not inconvenienced picking up or dropping off truck.
My desire is to rent my truck to my house guests but Turo forbids me from advertising as such at their website. Therefore it's possible that my truck won't available during your stay at Hale Manu. To minimize this risk you should book the truck as soon as your Hale Manu reservation is confirmed. (NOTE: As Turo insures my vehicle rental, they will screen you so if you have a blemished driving record they may not accept your application. ) Mahalo!
NOTE: Hale Manu of Kaloli Point has been listed since April 2011 on VacationRentals.
