About Sharon and Curt Davis

Curt and Sharon Davis

Work hard! Play hard! We love the beach and decided this was a good combination of both!

Sharon and Curt Davis purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Sharon and Curt Davis chose San Diego County

We prefer to get away from the busy boardwalk and be just a few doors in from the crowd for a more relaxed beach visit. We like the prices off the boardwalk as they are always a better value and we are not afraid to walk 200 feet to the beach.

What makes this cottage unique

Single level and the PATIO!!! We love how clean and easy this beach house is. We love the open kitchen design as I can watch the kids and cook easily. the patio is our outdoor room and we just love that the most. We have a back door that leads right into the kitchen from the parking spot. The same back door provides a short cut into the bath and saves on sandy feet issues. The full size laundry is right inside that same bath, so it makes things easier here. It also has the best, wide parking spot ever FOR OUR SUV!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Loved this place! We especially loved the big patio and new kitchen! Very convenient location, so close to the beach and sunsets.

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great girls weekend! Location was great , neighbors nice and owners were responsive. The only issue was that we couldn't get the fire pit to work, but I'm sure it would have been taken care of if we had let them know. We would definitely stay there again!

Can't beat the location! Fun bungalow for my boys!

  • 4 of 5

Just home after a wonderful spring break trip to San Diego with my husband and two little boys, ages 3 and 9. While scouring the internet for an affordable rental near the beach, we came across this home. My parameters were, at least two bedrooms, laundry in house, walkable to the beach and within 15 minutes from my dad's house in Old Town. This checked all the boxes.

I will say, upon arrival, after traveling all day, I was a little apprehensive. I don't think I realized how close together the homes are...I also didn't realize there would be people staying above us. With no air conditioning, this meant we had to have the windows open and there were about 15 people grilling out on the patio next to us. Then, after walk through the house, I noticed the bunk beds are pretty much in the kitchen/living room, and with kids who go to sleep earlier than us, the bunk beds were not really an option. This is an older beach house, so it needs some repairs...toilet that always ran, a light or two that was burned out...really little things.

BUTTTTTTT, we had an AMAZING TIME! We put both boys in one of the king size beds and they slept great and loved it. When they advertise 70 steps to the beach, that might be too many. It was so convenient to get to the beach. We would go several times a day because we could just take a shovel, a chair and a towel then head home when we wanted to go in. The kitchen is well-stocked, and even though the grill outside looks beat up, it was in great working order. We ate most of our meals out on the patio and everyone staying in the houses around us was so friendly! The group grilling out made us some burgers! Having the laundry room was crucial with sandy boys. And, it was so nice having chairs and sand toys.

Every night we would light the outdoor fire pit and unwind with a drink. The weather was perfect, so no need for air conditioning. We ran the ceiling fans one or two nights. Having a designated parking space was huge. That Belmont Park/Mission Beach area gets very crowded, so we were thrilled to be able to park behind our house, then walk to the roller coaster. When we did have to drive, nothing was more than 15 minutes away. Very central location. Lots of extra bath towels and blankets. No beach towels though, so you will need to bring your own.

Bottom line, this is not the fanciest house you can book, but it is cozy, well-stocked and a great location! We would stay here again!

Nice location.

  • 3 of 5

First impression was that the internet pics don't show the details as expected. It was a nice location and our stay was pleasant enough. However, waking up at 5:30am to having a couple of youngsters running back and forth across the floor of the unit above wasn't a great way to wake up. There were a few maintenance items that needed attention such as light bulbs being out, toilet valve needing repair in the main bath, the screen door had problems opening and closing and the fire pit needed to be repaired. Still we did enjoy our stay and the ability to prepare our meals and kick back and relax and enjoy the beach also which was just a short walk away.

Nice cute place to stay close to the beach

  • 4 of 5

It's 1/2 a block from the beach, so if you're looking to stay near Mission Beach, it was great. The owners were usually quick to respond and reasonable and accommodating. The two bedrooms were decent sized and had closets and the bathrooms adjacent to them were smallish but adequate. It was a very affordable rate, too, for staying so close to the beach.

Just a few minor things: I guess I should've noticed this, but it's not very large. The bunk cave is right next to the small living room which is connected to the small kitchen. This means if your kids go to bed earlier than you do, you have to whisper and keep the lights down low (and hang a blanket over the end of the bunk cave to darken it) unless they're really heavy/easy sleepers. Also, the couch that you see behind the bunk cave is the living room couch, which I guess I should've realized ahead of time.

Secondly, there was a very loud party across the courtyard one of the six nights we were there, with people yelling outside. We could've called the cops, I suppose, but I didn't really feel comfortable doing that. Not sure if there's some kind of neighborhood agreement or not, but it did turn off suspiciously almost exactly at midnight.

But that was mostly it for negatives. If you're looking for an affordable place near the beach, this was a nice place to stay.

The place was perfect... just as advertised!

  • 5 of 5

My newly blended family took our first vacation together... all 7 of us in this small 2 bedroom turned out to be the perfect fit for us thanks to the bunk cave and sofa bed. The house had a all of the beach toys we needed and was located right next to the boardwalk... we were visiting from Northern California 10 hour drive away and the people who rented the unit above us was a colleauge of mine very small world... the only issue we had was the water heater went out on us however the owners had a plumber out the morning and by that afternoon the issue was resolved... very prompt and courteous owners!! I would highly recommend this property to any large or small family. We can't wait to return.

Poinsettia Bowl Family Gathering

  • 3 of 5

Having traveled from landlocked Colorado, being steps from the ocean was a treat! We loved our little cottage. Kitchen had all needed supplies for family cooking, even a bit of coffee for the 1st morning. We slept 7 easily and enjoyed our time on the porch, around the fire. Having 2 bathrooms was a bonus! The location was perfect being located near Christmas shopping, SeaWorld entertainment and of course, Qualcomm Stadium. This was winter in San Diego so it was chilly at night. This cottage does not have heat so we had wished that the bedding had been a bit more substantial. We did not come equipped with beach towels and there were none provided so worried about taking the bath towels to the beach. The propane fire pit was wonderful but does take some work to get it going because the starter is broken. Also broken is the lock on the sliding glass door! We almost called on it but found a stick in the broom closet the perfect length that must be used to secure the door. These minor items aside, we had a wonderful stay at a very clean, perfectly located, neighbor friendly cottage!
