El Mirador (from Spanish, from mirror to look, affording a view of the surroundings)

This gorgeous, private, and gated 1.8-acre estate is located just behind the historic Sonoma Square in the country. Newly remodeled, the property features 4 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms, a large living room with 13-foot French doors offering endless views of the Sonoma hills, and a 26-foot dining patio for gathering friends and enjoying the weather.

Come enjoy the view over the pool, relax on a daybed suspended from a perfectly placed old oak tree while listening to the koi pond quietly cascading in the background, BBQ warming your dinner as you sample some local wine and cheese.

El Mirador could be one of the finest places to sit and relax after a long day of wine tasting, hiking, ballooning, biking, shopping, or just enjoying the slow-paced local atmosphere.

Please note:
* DOGS: Small/medium-sized dogs (less than 30 lbs) are permitted with prior approval for the stated daily fee per pooch. Note that larger dogs and long-haired dogs are not allowed in the pool.

* PARTIES: The property is not permitted to host weddings, receptions, or large parties (more than 13 people). These events require a commercial license and insurance.

* POOL: The pool is solar-powered and typically warm enough for swimming from April through October, often into November. During the hot summer months, temperatures can be 80+. New for 2021: insurance is now required, and we have added a secondary safety measure and a "kid-safe" fence around the pool.

* SMOKING: This is a non-smoking property. Smoking will result in the loss of your deposit, as it is a serious offense.

* VIDEO: The property has a security camera for the safety and security of the property and our guests. It is visible from above the garage and, for privacy, faces only the driveway and gate. As with all Nest/Blink cameras, it records video and audio for security.

* COVID-19: If you are worried about COVID-19, please purchase appropriate trip insurance. We will refund your deposit if the county closes us, but otherwise, please purchase trip insurance.

* SMOKE: Same as COVID-19, if the county closes us, we will refund your trip. Please purchase the appropriate trip insurance.

Turn off the lights, lock the doors, and return the keys
We try to keep this easy for you, but it can really help. • Basic pick-up. • Load and run the dishwasher. • Take out the trash. • Bring towels to the laundry room. • Start a load of wash.
• If you took the pool fence down, please replace it • Check to see if there is a Cariage House key for the next guest. • Feed the koi (ok, I like to feed them)
• Travel safely. • Return and repeat.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
1) Sorry, I am strict on the 8 overnight guests and 5 day-time visitors limits and the 10 pm quiet hours (please, respect the neighbors)
2) Pets are $100 a night. Please let me know if you plan on bringing a pet, please ask first.
THE POOL: Please be note the Pool is heated by Solar. The pool is warm May-October but not guaranteed as it is determined by the weather.

We had a wonderful stay! The house offered beautiful views and was very convenient to Sonoma Square. It was perfectly comfortable for our group of four couples, with plenty of space to relax. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and essentials, which made cooking easy, and the host was extremely responsive and informative throughout our stay. Highly recommend for a wine country getaway!

Relaxing girls trip to wine country

The property was absolutely beautiful. The view was amazing, the beds were comfortable, it was very clean and well appointed and was perfect for our group of 8 women. As we visited in January we didn't use the pool but that would be an added bonus during the warmer months!

This was our second time to stay at this beautiful, peaceful property. Last time we didn’t spend as much time enjoying the gorgeous views and I was determined to spend more time at the house this time. Every evening we sat by the pool and looked out over the hills as the sun went down. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need if you want to stay there and cook. Love dining at the outdoor dining table over looking the pool and hills. The bedrooms were well appointed with plenty of room for suitcases unlike some hotel rooms. The proximity to town was great and despite being so close, we had complete privacy. I highly recommend this property. Excellent for 4 couples!!!

Such a great encounter with Sonoma! Our party of 8 travels together frequently and we know when we walk into a welcoming home. Steve has taken care of many details that deliver on the spa experience he promised. You can actually cook in this kitchen! High quality pots, utensils, serving dishes, stove, oven, etc… it’s what you’d want in your own home. The gathering spots are spacious and have enough comfortable furniture so you can just hang out comfortably. The covered patio and east view of the valley is where the money is. Just awesome. We one stay-in, home cooked dinner and it was memorable. The bedrooms are comfy with quality bedding and bathroom accessories. The grounds are beautiful and spacious. Getting to the right gate entrance is a little tricky so try to arrive when the sun is up. Steve is very attentive pre, during and post stay. You’ll receive a House Information Book that is second to none. Well done!

I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life and have no intention of leaving. Between Marin, Sonoma, and Tahoe, I can bike, hike, ski, eat, dine, and play just about anything with some of the world's great people.

Why they chose this property

Having lived in the Bay Area my entire life, I genuinely believe Sonoma is one of the world's great hidden gems (and yes, I have traveled extensively). The best comparison I have found is the slow pace of Southern France. Where Napa may have the name for wine, Sonoma has access to all the great wine, PLUS small-town charm. Sonoma Square (one of two; Healdsburg is the other) offers a relaxed atmosphere that has not changed in 100 years. This is also the birthplace of California for history buffs.

El Mirador (from Spanish, meaning "mirror" or "to look," affording a view of the surroundings) offers unparalleled views from Mount Tamalpais, past Mount Diablo, through the East Bay. Truly amazing on a clear day. All while less than 5 minutes (under 2 miles) from the square. Please read the reviews, as pictures cannot do it justice. The house was fully remodeled in 2014 and 2017 and has all the bells and whistles you could ever ask for while keeping this tranquil hilltop location quiet. You will not be disappointed.
