Wine Country Getaway, Luxury, Spa-like Estate, Sonoma Square, Amazing Views

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,400 sq. ft.
Property type estate
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

El Mirador (from Spanish, from mirar to look, affording a view of the surroundings)

This gorgeous, private and gated 1.8 acre estate located just behind the historical Sonoma Square, in the country. Newly remodeled in early 2014, the property features 4 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms, a large living room with 13 foot french doors offering endless views of the Sonoma hills, and a 26 foot dining patio for gathering friends and enjoying the weather.

Come enjoy the view over the pool, relax on a daybed suspended from a perfectly placed old oak tree, while listening to the koi pond quietly cascading in the background, BBQ warming your dinner as you sample some local wine and cheese.

This could be one of the finest places to sit and relax after a long day of wine tasting, hiking, ballooning, biking, shopping or just enjoying the slow paced local atmosphere.

*Please note: the property is not permitted to host weddings, receptions or large parties.

*The pool is solar powered. Thus it is typically warm enough for swimming from April through October, often into November. During hot summer months the temperature is often in the 80s.

* This is a non smoking property.

* Fire pit is closed due to fire danger (we need rain!)

About Steve Shepard

I have lived in the Bay Area my entire life and have no intent of leaving. Between Marin, Sonoma and Tahoe I can; bike, hike, ski, eat, dine and play just about anything with some of the worlds great people.

Steve Shepard purchased this estate in 2013

Why Steve Shepard chose Sonoma County

Having lived in the Bay Area my entire life I truly believe Sonoma is one of the great hidden gems of the world (and yes I have traveled extensively. The best comparison I have found is the slow pace of Southern France) Where Napa may have the name for wine, Sonoma has access to all the great wine PLUS small old town charm. The Sonoma Square (one of two, Healdsburg is the other) offers a relaxed atmosphere that has not changed 100 years. This is also the birth place of California for the history buffs.

El Mirador (from Spanish, from mirar to look, affording a view of the surroundings) offers unparalleled views from Mount Tamalpais past Mount Diablo, in the middle, through the east bay. Truly amazing on a clear day. All while less then 5 minutes (under 2 miles) from the square. Read the reviews as pictures just cannot do it justice. The house was fully remodeled in 2014 and has all the bells and whistles you could ever ask for while keeping the quite of this tranquil hilltop location. You will not be disappointed.

We had 3 couples stay at El Mirador 2 weeks ago. Enjoyed our stay at property! Clean, beautiful view, and owner was very attentive and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed! Would rent again!!

Exceeded Every Expectation!

  • 5 of 5

We booked El Mirador to celebrate my 42nd Birthday and it made turning another year older that much more palatable! The house is incredibly well-maintained and has absolutely stunning views of Sonoma. It is clear that every detail was taken into account when designing this beautiful home and it provides the perfect blend of city and country living (the house is a short distance to town but feels very remote and private). And it is great for small groups - everyone had their own space and the common areas were perfect. And perhaps most importantly, the owner (Steve) was awesome to work with - incredibly responsive and made everything easy.

We also splurged and had Chef Willy (a local Chef that Steve recommended) cater a dinner for us one evening. It was great! And we were able to take advantage of the outdoor dining area - nothing better than great friends, great food, great wine and great views - in a GREAT house - to make this birthday unforgettable. Would highly recommend it!

5 stars (would give you more if I could!) and many thanks! We hope to be back...soon!

Beautiful views, serene atmosphere just minutes from Sonoma square

  • 4 of 5

My husband, our four adult children along with two friends enjoyed this completely updated home. Each of the four bedrooms has its own bathroom ( although one is adjacent to the bedroom, but not connected). The kitchen has every amenity you can imagine, with state of the art appliances, and a table large enough to accommodate eight.

The views are incredible! Although you feel like you are in the countryside, you are only a few minutes drive from the main square, and an easy drive to Napa.

The house also has a wonderful covered porch, a small fish pond, and did I mention--fabulous views.

Modern charm with exquisite view!

  • 4 of 5

This property was highly recommended by friends and they were not wrong! The house is close to everything - just a short distance up the mountain from downtown Sonoma. The view of the bay in the distance is one that anyone could wake up to every morning... sipping coffee from the covered porch or sitting on the gorgeous pool deck. The home is perfect for 4 couples and decorated with amazing style. The amenities such as the grill, kitchen, sound system and organization are a bonus. Steve was attentive and truly cares about his home and wants his guest/s to enjoy all that the area has to offer. The only minor problem was the pool being too chilly to swim (as it is only heated by a solar cover which was not working properly) so we did not really get to enjoy the pool.... but we were also too busy seeing all that Sonoma, Healdsburg, Napa and St Helena had to offer! We will be recommending it to anyone who is looking to stay in the area and plan to return again!

Owner's Response: Aaron, thank you for such a nice review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay at the house and were able to see so much of the wine country! I am sorry the pool was not a little warmer (October was a little cold and rainy so the solar panels, on the roof of the house, could not keep the pool warmer) You are welcome back anytime but please try June-August when the pool is closer to 90. Safe travels, Steve
