Congratulations you have discovered the Puna district on the “Big Isle” the hidden area of the island with lush tropical forests and areas of untouched land where you can experience unspoiled Hawaii.

Tastefully decorated, this home is ideal, for anyone wanting a quiet retreat, special occasions such as Honeymoon’s, Anniversaries, couples traveling together and for anyone who would like to pamper themselves at a fraction of the cost of a hotel but with quadruple the amenities!

3 bedrooms ~ Master bedroom upstairs with king bed and private bath, guest bedroom upstairs with queen bed. Lower level Master bedroom with king bed and walk in style spa shower.

3 bathrooms (2 full bathrooms upstairs, 1 downstairs)

Choose from the Standard package or the Spa package which includes, use of hot tub (2-4 person ideal for 2 people it's on the smaller size), terry cloth bath robes provided and disposable Spa slippers! (due to the high cost of electricity on the isle we believe if customers do not wish to use the features of the Spa Package they should not have to pay for them – therefore is optional) AGE restriction on Hot-tub availability is 12 years or older due to Property Insurance restrictions.

Spa package (hot-tub) not available during Summer season June-Oct. Air conditioning is included in Summer rate at no additional charge.

Makana-Lani is located in a quiet neighborhood on a dead end street no traffic! One quite neighbor to the left and no other houses around on either side of the street! Home is about 5 miles from the small town of Pahoa. There you will find many restaurants of all ethnic varieties, small grocery store, Burger king, Subway, a handful of unique shops, Hawaii Counties nicest community pool (Free with Life Guards on duty), and much more. There is a small convenience store located about 2.5 miles from the home should you not wish to drive into Pahoa.

The property is not ocean front but you can hear the wave’s as they crash against the shoreline when the surf is up.

Nearby are the ocean cliffs (5 minute stroll) where you can enjoy all types of sea life especially during the winter months. You can see humpback whales breaching at the ocean front park located just a short walk way where you can have a nice picnic and enjoy the beauty of this tropical paradise.

Makana-Lani is centrally located between all the sights on the Puna/Hilo side such as:

Geothermal Hot Ponds,

Volcano National Park

Kapaho tide pools (some of the best snorkeling on the island)

Farmers Markets different days of the week stretching from Makana-Lani to Hilo.

Beautiful waterfalls

Botanical gardens

And so much more!

So come and delight in the sounds of nature as every evening you are serenaded by a chorus of Coqui frogs singing you to sleep with their unique lullaby. Awake each morning to the sounds of song birds as they welcome the new day and all the adventure it holds for you. Enjoy watching the Geckos play as they stand guard assuring you won't be 'bugged' during your visit. (Geckos menu of choice are mosquito's and such).

This home is OWNER operated/maintained by Denny & Laurie and is the only vacation rental we have. We do not have multiple properties. . We choose to work directly with our guests through the whole reservation, payment, communication etc - pre and post stay of your vacation. This way we can ensure that our Guests experience is a pleasant and professional one from start to finish! Customer service is more then just getting a reservation booked each of our guests mean so much more and will be respected and treated as such.

Cleaning fee as low as $85 depends on how many guests will be staying.

Payments via credit card accepted except American Express.

Smoking is NOT permitted in the home and will not be tolerated but smoking is allowed in a designated covered outside comfortable smoking area.

About Denny & Laurie Edmonds

Aloha thank you for visiting out vacation rental listing. My name is Laurie and the love of my life's name is Denny and we have been married for 20 years July 2014 but have been best friends for over 30 years! Denny was born on Oahu (not to give his age) back when it was still the “Territory of Hawaii”. Denny won a trip to the island of Kauai in 1992, which at that time we were only dating and he asked if I would accompany him. It was my first airplane ride all the way from Minnesota direct flight to the islands. Denny had not been back to his birth place since he left when he was very young and I had never been here. Oh my gosh from the moment we landed we both knew in our hearts this is where we wanted to spend our lives as much as we possibly could. We visited many of the islands throughout the years whenever financially we were able to. We loved them all but the island of Hawaii was our only pick of where we wanted to go to as we felt more at home here than anywhere else.

Denny & I purchased this home to be used as a vacation rental to supplement our retirement income. We designed her in the manner of a rental we would have liked whenever we would travel ourselves. We tried to pay as much attention to detail as possible. Linens are of good quality and the dishes Pots/pans are replaced new every 12-18 months. Furniture and beds are comfortable. I think you will find that the home is well stocked, comfortable, organized and clean.

What makes this house unique

Centrally located within an hour drive to ALL of East Hawaii attractions, a short walk to the ocean, semi-secluded location in an upscale neighborhood and most importantly she was created for our guests and our goal is to spoil our guests and make your vacation a truly memorable one!

Exclusion from the noise other than the birds singing! What a refreshing experience from work and the pressures of the normal day to day life and a great reminder of what is important! Relax and breathe and don't sweat the big stuff in this house! You're on Hawaiian time!

Beautiful Home

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful home for 5 nights during our honeymoon visit to the Big Island and it was wonderful! It is close to everything you need and there are so many things to do in the area, but it is also very secluded... it feels like you are staying in a rainforest paradise! The owners have thought of everything that might possibly be needed, no detail was missed. We would definitely stay again! The back yard hot tub was also a fabulous bonus!

Beautiful Home

Stayed a week at this beautifully kept home. Every detail of home has been considered for the quests stay. Home shows pride of ownership and is very private on a dead end road. Can not say enough about the cleanliness and comfort of the home. Denny and Laurie seem to really want you to have fun and enjoy your stay. You will not regret renting this for your Island vacation.

Pos. the cleanest house we have ever rented !

I almost hate to write this review for purely selfish reasons. I know I am fussy I know it so usually I spend my first day cleaning not so here it was delightfully clean ! In Hawaii cockroaches are part of being here but can be controlled, the whole month we were here I saw two, they were dead. Yeaaaa !!!!! Denny and Laurie take great pride in keeping this house well maintained and clean...it sure shows. The house is at the end of a dead end street so it is very quiet and while not on the water you can hear the waves and is just a short walk through this lovely neibourhood . Will not hesitate to come back for a minute.
