About Chelsea Turner

Since 1986 our family has been escaping to the mountains of Robbinsville, North Carolina to reconnect with nature, explore, and of course create lifelong memories with our family. We have hiked every trail, taught our two boys to fish here, and shared endless gatherings with family and friends. Every season offers an exciting new set of adventures and scenery. The winter snow, spring wild flowers, summer trout, and fall leaves are just the beginning of what you can expect to find. We invite you to come create memories, share new adventures, and take in the sights and sounds of this nature escape.

Chelsea Turner purchased this cabin in 1986

Why Chelsea Turner chose Smoky Mountains

After vacationing here as a child, we knew this was an experience we wanted to share with our children. Over the years, we searched for the perfect mountain home only to create our own private escape of several residences. Today we own four mountain homes in Robbinsville and look forward to sharing them with you, your family, and friends.

What makes this cabin unique

When you arrive at the Homestead on Huffman Creek, it may take you a few minutes to unwind. Grab your favorite book - or e-reader - head to the porch, hot tub, hammock, or stream, and prepare for a trip of pure relaxation. Our favorite thing to do is prepare a 'breakfast extravaganza' each morning for the few early risers in the bunch. Prepare a pile of pancakes for those morning lovers and let the rest stay snuggled in bed. Best of all, by the time those morning lovers wrap up, the rest of us are about ready for a day of hiking, exploring, and sometimes napping. It's just the right size home to offer a good combination of gathering spaces and privacy.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed here for a week during one of the most beautiful weddings we have ever seen. The home was spotless and the facility was absolutely ideal for a wedding. BJ was incredibly helpful through the entire process and all 50 of us were made to feel incredibly special. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is considering an intimate mountain wedding.

Amazing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a wonderful week at this home. There were 4 adults and 7 children in our group, we had plenty of room and plenty to keep us busy. We loved the hikes, finding the treehouse, sitting around the fire, playing in the creek, and relaxing on the porch and in the hot tub. This is the perfect location for bringing plenty of food and never leaving during your stay, but if you want to sight see there is so much to do in the area. We rented a boat on Lake Fontana nearby, went tubing in Bryson City, and took the short drive into TN one day. The house had everything we needed and more. We loved the big tables for family meals, rocking chairs and hammocks everywhere for reading, and the fun pool table. Lastly, it was so nice to have BJ (caretaker) just a phone call away if needed. He came by and emptied the trash cans out back for us, let us know where to find firewood on property, and was generally a sweet, wonderful help. Not many properties offer that, I've stayed in a bunch. All in all, we had a trip of a lifetime, our kids will never forget it and we'd love to come back again. Thank you for sharing your amazing mountain retreat.

Perfect place for a family getaway - we really got to disconnect

  • 5 of 5

- Very secluded location down a private road, but we had no trouble getting our minivan in (no snow on the ground)

- Nestled in a beautiful valley near Hoffman Creek

- Some easy walks on the private road and a few trails; more challenging hiking also right there (we did an out-and-back, 2-mile round trip, with 800 feet of elevation change with the kids)

- Dark and peaceful at night

- Beat our expectations for a mountain cabin: fixtures, plumbing, furniture were all nice and well maintained

- We stayed warm - temps were in the 30's at night - with just the gas fireplace

- Kitchen was well supplied; we could have left our slow cooker at home; bathrooms stocked with shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, and linens (we brought our own beach towels for getting back inside from the hot tub in autumn)

- Everyone enjoyed the hot tub, pool table, and card/board games

- We had 6 people (2 adults, 3 teens, 1 pre-k); there was room for plenty more

- Wifi was good for the limited use we made of it (checking weather, finishing up a few work emails the first day); Verizon cell reception was just fine

- BJ and Jody were very helpful

- We really had only one minor issue (missing dishwasher detergent), but that was easily remedied with a text to both Jody and BJ

- Directions given in the email were easy to follow

- Update the entry instructions on the "directions" email; the door code given didn't work; we arrived late & tired and didn't want to have to make a phone call

My husband and I along with our 3 children, 3 son-in-laws and 5 grandchildren stayed here and it was awesome! We celebrated Thanksgiving and we found it very accommodating! Not to mention a lot of beautiful scenery and places to explore. However, the directions that you follow from Ingles, the grocery store, to the cabin could use some tweaking. The first sentence is completely wrong but other than that it was awesome! We are looking forward to next year!

I enjoyed my stay and its proximity to lake swimming even though the rental was not creekside as the photos led me to believe.

Owner's Response: Jackson, thanks for taking the time to provide a review. We certainly aim to be completely transparent and in no way intended to deceive you. It is correct that this is a mountain home with creek access. The creek is not visible from the cabin but can be accessed in a matter of moments. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future and would love to point you in the direction of some of our creekside properties. Safe travels until then.

Summer Vacation

  • 3 of 5

I had a party of 8 that stayed from July 2-16. I would first like to mention that the location and landscape of this rental were amazing. Solitude is great! Our stay began with a inoperable code that was given by the owner. Thankfully the groundsman was there and he assisted us in the entry. We had two dogs with us on our stay which turned out to be a good thing. My dog found a snake by the stairs, it was a rat snake, they are harmless and this is to be expected in a rental that is situated in the middle of the mountains. The outside was great with a large wraparound deck. The creek on the property was close but couldnt be seen (you could hear it)The inside however was not so great. The laminate floor was installed incorrectly and had gaps in it. My daughter cut her foot. In our first day we noticed the bathroom downstairs was broken and the washer was not working. I called the maitenance man as directed by the owner(5 days no response) he never responding. I contacted the owner(2 days until response) it took her, when she did respond she said they were hands off they usually just left the guest alone.I agree with this except for when there are problems with the property. After a week my problems were addressed. My 2nd wk after half of my party left because of the problems with the rental. We had a water problem. The water was pulsing and you couldnt take a shower, the shower head would turn off. I contacted the owner they came out that day but not before her stating that they have never had this problem before. The problem was not resolved. They had no idea what was wrong and never came back. I would not stay there again. My family and I will be going back to the area, there are many attractions. We did not let the owners incompetencies ruin our 2 week vacation. Renters beware!

Robbinsville, North Carolina is located in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountain Region of the southern Appalachian mountains. Known for it's diverse species of flora and fauna, the region is home to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Slickrock Creek Wilderness Area, Natahala National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

From Huffman Creek, you're only moments to the secluded waters of Lake Santeelah. The lake boasts almost an entirely undeveloped shoreline with 75% being home to National Forest. With a restricted number of residence, the quiet lake is ideal for boating, fishing, swimming, and any of your favorite water sports. Boat and jet ski rentals are available throughout the spring and summer seasons.

Take a short drive to Highway 129 and take on the adventure of driving the 'Tail of the Dragon.' The world renowned road is a challenge even for the greatest road warriors with 318 curves in just 11 miles. Continue on your journey and loop back around to Huffman Creek on the Cherohala Skyway which winds through mountaintop ridges of the Cherokee National Forrest. These views are certainly something to write home about. Be sure to bring your camera!

For the history buffs, you're just a short drive to Cherokee, North Carolina, home to the eastern Band of the Cherokee Tribe. Try your luck at Harrah's Cherokee Casino or visit one of the many restaurants, shops, and museums.

Embrace your inner adventurer and head down the Nantahala river. Featuring a combination of Class II and III rapids, there is something for the novice and full-on adrenaline junkie. Be sure to contact one of the multiple rafting companies in Bryson City to schedule your full day of adventure. Between white water rafting, ziplining, mountain biking, and horse back riding, you'll be ready to relax when you arrive back at Huffman Creek.

Enjoy the quieter side of your stay just steps outside of your door. Take a nap by the private river while you enjoy friends and family fishing for trout.

There is certainly nothing more therapeutic than curling up in your cabin during the occasional afternoon rain or warming up by your private fire and enjoying the modern convenience of a twilight movie.

Head down to the fire pit for an evening of stories, laughs, good eats, and of course, smores.

Huffman Creek's private residence offers an abundance of opportunity for the culinary enthusiast to prepare a quick picnic to take along for the day's hike or a full feast to celebrate a day of outdoor fun and relaxation.

Take a trip down a few winding gravel roads for an escape from the complexities of the daily grind and an opportunity to reconnect with nature. A trip to the Homestead at Huffman Creek will revitalize the senses and relax the soul.
