Luxury Sonoma Cottage: Sanctuary with Pool! Close to Square & Wineries

Overview

About the property

Nestled down a little country dirt lane, our cottage named after William Wordsworth's own Dove Cottage, is a calming sanctuary in the middle of the Wine Country, close to Sonoma Plaza. It is a completely private residence with it's own solar-heated pool, large private deck for entertaining, dining, and relaxing. It has a lush, wrap-around garden, and a modern, clean, minimal interior space. It is perfectly located close to Sonoma Square for the best in fine dining and access to some of the best wineries in the world.

Our cottage is perfect for a couple's romantic weekend away, or a fun weekend for a small family with kids enjoying the pool (with automatic cover- so very safe) and Traintown just around the corner. *We do not typically heat the pool December- February due to the cold temperatures, it is almost impossible to get the pool warm enough to enjoy.

Besides being a beautiful little getaway, we have also put thought into the details: Dove Cottage has air-conditioning/heating and features a beautiful custom luxury kitchen. It has two Sony HD TV's with complimentary Netflix and Cable, Full Lightening speed Wi-fi, and unique European design details such as a sliding custom barn-door and two Dutch-style doors. And the back master suite has french doors that lead out to your private deck to enjoy the evening sunsets or the fresh morning air.

Our cottage is close enough to the Square for easy access and proximity yet has a wonderful rural setting that allows you to simultaneously feel away from it all. We have tried to create a space that we love to be in as a family, or as a romantic getaway, and we have put a lot of thought into the design and flow, and we hope that you will love it, and that it will make your time in this beautiful part of the world even more enjoyable and memorable.

About Sarah Miles

We are a family with our hearts split equally between San Francisco and London, but the wine country of Sonoma is a heartland all of its own and we have fallen under its spell. Between the beauty of its countryside, the warmth of its residents, and the endless sunny days and long summer nights, there's no more romantic place that we could imagine to escape to and call a home away from home. Cute but a little strange

  • 3 of 5

We stayed in this little cottage this past weekend. It is sufficient for 4 people. The house is cute but definitely has a strange appointment of detail. The bathroom is definitely a one person room. There is only one small mirror on the back wall (none over the sink), so it isn't easy if you are all trying to get ready and put make up on, do hair etc. As well, there is no place to hang towels, except the one hook for a hand towel. The home wasn't totally clean when we arrived: dirty fridge and smegma on the kitchen counter, as well as dirty hand towels in kitchen and bath and the number of options for replacing those was very slim. The coffee maker was full of old moldy grounds and had old coffee in the reservoir. The kitchen is not well appointed so preparing and serving food is a challenge. As well, you can see the small fridge in the picture. There is no ice available for this house. (When we got there, the freezer was completely frosted over.) You will need a cooler and bags of ice from the store (major hassle). All the pillows and comforters are feather/down, so plan ahead if you are allergic like me. Every drawer in the rooms is filled with stuff so plan to live out of your suitcase. There was a closet in the second bedroom, the one behind the rolling barn door. Unfortunately, they store all of their laundry supplies in the only spot to hang things, and don't provide any hangers anyway. Most of the towels are old and mildewed, although they did provide a newer set of 4 bath towels and one hand towel for bathing.

There is air conditioning that worked really well after we took out the completely clogged air filter in the return.

HOWEVER, the yards are just perfect. Relaxing pool and picnic table on deck. The trees and setting are just lovely. It is not walking distance to the square, unless you are up for a good hike. But it is in a fairly convenient location. The bedrooms are nice size and the master has French doors that open to the beautiful backyard and pool.

For the money though, I probably wouldn't book this again unless the owners step up the facility.

Cozy, modern, clean

We had a beautiful stay at Dove Cottage over our wedding weekend. The house is small, but perfect for 1 couple or a small family. Also, the pool is heated! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Charming cottage, close to everything in Sonoma

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Dove cottage! We were here with another couple for Bottlerock, which is just a short drive to downtown Napa (walk-able to Sonoma square). It's the perfect amount of space for 4 adults (we left our kiddos at home, but they would have also loved it here). The backyard is lovely - quiet and peaceful. Everything is beautifully and tastefully decorated. Felt just like home away from home. We'll be back with the kids!

Picture Perfect Sonoma home

  • 5 of 5

We had a memorable stay at this cottage in April 2017. Everything is as advertised and the decor is perfect for the space. There's plenty of room for 2-4 people and the location is great for getting to either Sonoma or Napa (we never had trouble getting and Uber or Lyft). Highly recommended for a relaxing and beautiful home to spend your time in wine country.

Cottage Chic!

  • 5 of 5

I am so very glad this was the property I decided to stay for my birthday celebration with a couple girlfriends. This will certainly be my property of choice when I come back (which I am already thinking about returning because the region is that magnificent!).

There are no cons to this property, in my opinion. We didn't stay long enough to cook but I love how the kitchen was stocked with some of your cooking essentials. It would have been nice to stay here longer than a weekend to actually try out the kitchen.

I stayed in the master suite and it was basically hotel luxury but in the comfort of a home. I would have loved to try out the pool but it was a bit too chilly. All of the amenities are top of the line and high-tech. The house was definitely renovated recently and they did an EXCELLENT job. The space is not huge but the use of the space is great.

This house would be great for a girls getaway or a romantic stay as well. This was my first house rental, normally I do hotels, but I will definitely be back to this location again (hopefully it won't be booked when I want it!).

Lastly, the guide that the owners left was great. It was really detailed. I was worried that I wouldn't know all the good spots but they definitely had us covered. I ended up trying the Fremont Diner that they suggested which was only about eight minutes from the house and it was PERFECTION.

Such a cute property!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing little cottage, with farm-chic decor. Located conveniently, within walking distance (maybe 25-min leisurely walk) to downtown Sonoma. Quiet road. Just the right amount of space for a family of four. Owner, Sarah, is responsive and super accommodating/flexible. Stayed at Dove Cottage with my parents and sister (left our husbands and kids at home!) for a relaxing adults weekend to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. 20 minutes to Napa and 30 minutes to Yountville . This was the perfect choice for us. So much nicer than staying in a cramped hotel room, with no outdoor space. We will definitely be back, perhaps in the summer so we can take advantage of the pool! I've already told several friends if they're ever in the Sonoma area, they HAVE to stay here! Thank you, Sarah, for providing such a wonderful home base for our celebratory weekend!

Our house is across the street from the Lodge at Sonoma- perfect if you are attending a wedding there. It is about 6 blocks from the square, but it is a long walk.
