"The house is perfect. Cozy beds for 10 people, a fireplace for the cool evenings, the channel to Lake Leelanau behind the house, open kitchen, fully furnished with top notch furnishings and CLEAN! The house is almost split in half as far as sleeping areas which works great if you have late night people and light sleepers that like to go to bed early.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

September 7-10

Our family of 9 rented this beautiful lake front home because our son was getting married at Aurora Cellars which was a 5 minute car ride. We had a mix of couples and of older single women. The sleeping arrangements worked out perfectly. Everyone had plenty of space. The kitchen and dining area were perfect for cooking and feeding a big family. There was also a dining area upstairs in the media room and the guys sat up there and watched football while the girls enjoyed local wine and cooked dinner. We had a beautiful fire blazing in the living room with a flick of a switch as it was gas. One of my favorite features of the house.

The house was very clean and very well stocked with plush towels, nice bed linens, cooking utensils, lovely dishware, including China, glassware, and wineglasses.

The garage was filled with all kinds of fun stuff. Because of the wedding we did not have time to take advantage of the canoe, Kayak, outdoor fire pit or gas grill. The house was also well stocked with board games for family fun.

The back porch had a very comfortable sitting area with a table and chairs and a comfy couch. There were plenty of chairs for everyone. The view was gorgeous!!!

There were wonderful little wineries, eateries, and shops all within walking distance. The guys all went to play golf and us girls walked to The Boathouse Winery and had a wonderful afternoon.

I really hope to visit there again. Our stay was amazing. Melissa Smith was wonderful and great at returning your emails right away. She sent me a list of things to do, see, all her favorite places and where to go shopping for anything we might need.

I would highly recommend renting this lovely property. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.

Sincerely Carla & Jay Gillespie

Lake Leelanau Oasis

  • 4 of 5

In general, the property met all of our needs - location, location, location.

Everything was as hoped, all of our needs were met. Perhaps the highest praise would be that we would consider staying at that location again. Close to Suttons Bay and Leland, and key for us, the Sleeping Bear National Lake Shore. We've been coming to the area for quite a few years and have stayed at several VRBO properties. This was as good or better than others that we have visited.

Mildly disconcerting was the holding tank alarm which went off late at night - and woke everyone up - but that was quickly forgotten and issue resolved the next day.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the tank alarm, usually doesn't go off at night. Glad you enjoyed exploring Leelanau County. It's a beauty!

Great place & location

  • 4 of 5

The only criticism is that there is no bathroom upstairs. But the house, yard, and its location is terrific Walking distance to a lot of places

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you loved the house , the yard and the location! To clarify the house layout, there are 2 Queen bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the main floor and 3 bedrooms upstairs:1 Queen, 1 Bunk bed, and 1 Full and 2 Twins. Guests love how everyone can spread out for privacy, but there's lots of room to gather on the main floor in the spacious kitchen, living room with gas fireplace, and porch with water views. Look forward to welcoming your family again on Lake Leelanau!

Beautiful Lakefront Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our trip to Lake Leelanau. The White Birch Cottage is in a great location. We spent sunny afternoons sitting in chairs on the dock watching the boats go by. In the evenings, we gathered around the firepit and watched the stars come out. So peaceful and idyllic. We appreciated all of the tips Melissa shared with us on where to go and what to do. We visited Suttons Bay and enjoyed the shops and restaurants there. It was only about 10 minutes away. We enjoyed the nearby vineyards and the incredible views from Sleeping Bear Dunes. I'd recommend this cottage to vacation goers of all ages. Includes canoe, kayak and ping pong.

Well kept, clean home in an excellent location

  • 5 of 5

White Birch cottage is a well kept, very clean home, in an excellent location on The Narrows of Lake Leelanau. Melissa, the owner, was very helpful and responsive before and during our stay. She is very good at answering any questions you may have and she makes sure her guests feel comfortable and welcome.

The location of this house is absolutely perfect for exploring the Leelanau peninsula. We went into Leland (10 minute drive at most) several times to walk around Fishtown, eat ice cream at The Harbour House, watch the sunset and visit all of the little shops. You MUST go to Sissons Main Street Specialties and indulge in their cinnamon rolls. Heavenly!! Also, go to The Village Cheese Shanty for amazing sandwiches. Yummy! Suttons Bay is also very close by. Lots of restaurants and beaches in that area. We took a day trip to Traverse City (maybe 30 minutes) and did part of the Ale Trail. Lots of great craft breweries to check out. Our favorites were the Jolly Pumpkin (on the Traverse Bay peninsula) and Hop Lot near Suttons Bay. There are several beautiful wineries in the area. Our favorites were Verterra, Blustone and 45. Of course, Sleeping Bear Dunes is a must as well. Be prepared to climb!! We hiked all 9 dunes to the shore of Lake Michigan and back. Took us about 2 1/2 hours. Bring water and wear sunscreen!!!

Again, the location of the house is absolutely perfect. There is a winery and a distillery literally within 100 yards of the house. Go and do a taste testing at Northern Latitudes Distillery. You don't be disappointed! We went kayaking and canoeing almost everyday thanks to the owners having them for use by the guests. Plenty of space for a large family. There were 7 of us; 5 adults and 2 kids. The one downside was having only 2 bathrooms but we all survived just fine! We sat on the dock, relaxing, and watching the boats go by. In the evening we would sit out on the porch and play board games.

Overall, we fell in love with Michigan. Great house, great owner, great location and amazing vacation. We will definitely be back!!

Great house in the perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Our group enjoyed a great stay at the white birch cottage. The house offered everything we needed and more and the beds were extremely comfortable. We enjoyed many nights outside by the fire and having a canoe, kayak, and ping pong table available was definitely a plus! The cottage is centrally located between Leland and Suttons Bay near many wineries and cideries. Would definitely recommend staying here and the suggestions from Melissa were great!
