About Debbie and Luke Ellington

We moved to Colorado after marrying over 30 years ago. We have always enjoyed awesome mountain setting nestled right up against the foothills at the base of Pikes Peak, the deep blue skies and the numerous sunny days we have here. We love hiking and the opportunities are endless here. Skiing 2 hours away. What's not to like!?

Debbie and Luke Ellington purchased this house in 2011

Why Debbie and Luke Ellington chose Colorado Springs

We moved here after many years of living in the mountains at 8500 ft. We were very choosy about the location of where we would live in the Springs. This home was the perfect location for us. So close to many trails and parks which we love to access. There are lots of fun festivals in Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City besides good restaurants and shops. When we need a mountain fix, we can access them easily from here. This neighborhood has old growth trees, and no two houses are the same. This is not a track home! But it is a very scenic special neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

We love the fact that we can walk up the street and be in Garden of the Gods for awesome hikes and views that we never get tired of. Down the street Amada Fonda has a really nice outdoor creekside dining area for drinks and Mexican food. Or visit the shops, penny arcade, and restaurants and bars in funky Manitou Springs. Drive to the top of 14,000 Pikes Peak in the summer. Or take the Cog Railway to the top. The 5 Star Broadmoor Hotel is 20 minutes away. Besides the great hiking in Garden of the Gods, there is Red Rocks only minutes away. Colorado Springs offers nightlife on Tejon Street, 5 miles away. Or just go 2 miles to Colorado Mountain Brewery. White water raft 2 hours away. Olympic Training Center 20 minutes, Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge 1 hr, Cripple Creek Casinos 50 minutes, Air Force Academy 25 minutes. Warm and dry in summer.

Very nice and excellent location

  • 5 of 5

The unit was large, comfortable, quiet, and nicely decorated. The kitchen had snacks, condiments, ground coffee, and coffee filters provided, along with plenty of plates, bowls, glasses, cups, flatware, etc. We used the grill to cook dinner 4 of our 7 nights there without any difficulty. There is a two-burner hot plate that was adequate for making our side dishes using the cookware provided. The fridge was small but adequate for us. There is a medium sized (counter-top) freezer we used to hold our "blue ice," ice cream, meat (to grill) and to make ice cubes.

The bed was comfortable and the both the main bath and the half-bath were very clean and nice. The linens provided were wonderful.

It was fairly cool during our visit so we did not need to use any AC, though it was provided. We did see a black bear in the creek behind the house (outside the fence) one morning, which was quite exciting. The owners lent us the use of their ladder which we needed for one of our projects while we were there, which was very nice of them. The only issues we experienced were extremely minor and were easier for us to deal with by adjusting than by requesting assistance from the owners: we ran out of garbage bags, but used grocery shopping bags instead; the convertible couch for our 16 year-old grandson was too short for his 6 ft frame, so he slept on the main couch (but the grandson enjoyed the surround sound big screen TV and assortment of movies provided); the one smaller (1 qt) cooking pot was too small for some of our side dishes, but we managed with other pot provided, though it was very large (5 qt); and we found the narrow driveway somewhat challenging, even though we have a fairly small car (there was only a half foot to spare on each side, making backing out challenging.) The unit is located in a cell phone dead zone, and while the WiFi provided was excellent, we were often disadvantaged by not being able to make cell phone calls or text messages due to the cell service which was spotty on one of our phones and non-existent on the other phone. Getting cell service required walking or driving a half mile down the street. There is nothing the owners can do about that, of course. Other than that, the location was perfect for us: quite, abundant wildlife, short walk to Garden of the Gods, very short drives to Manitou Springs or Old Colorado City, and grocery shopping was close.

The owners did not encroach on our privacy at all, and were very pleasant.

Very spacious and comfortable accomodations in a gorgeous area. Home was spotless and nicely decorated. Had a private entrance and was a perfect location to walk the dog and trail run in the Garden Of The Gods park which is about a minute walk away. Highly recommended!!

Beautiful, bigger than what pics depict and very quiet.

  • 5 of 5

The property was so much bigger and prettier than what the pictures show. I loved coming down every morning and opening the deck door to let that mountain air in. The bath tub is huge! Hot water never ran out, hot tub was awesome, fenced in backyard was gorgeous! Never saw so many different flowers and plants inside and outside the house. Loved the gigantic bedroom with the skylights. And really loved the opportunity to walk the trails of The Garden of The Gods... the trail is literally right up the road! Loved the stereo system with the record player.... my daughter had never seen one before. Overall a wonderful property that helped relax this overworked mama!

Very nice and clean! Great location for all attractions!

  • 5 of 5

This guest house was beautiful and greatly appointed. Everything we needed for our 3 day stay in CS. Less than 5 minutes from Manitou Springs, Pikes Peak Cogway Train, Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cave Dwellings and old Colorado City. Quiet and close too. Great fenced backyard for our dog. Met the owners and they were delightful but respected our privacy. Would highly recommend this home for anyone.

Well maintained property, quiet neighborhood. Super clean property.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything was as presented in the property description. The property was very clean in a quiet neighborhood. Though we didn't meet the owners, there were numerous small things the showed great hospitality from them and made us feel immediately at home. They provided clear instructions on property features and local restaurants and venues. Everything we wanted to do was 15 minutes or less from the property. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
