Our favorite place to stay in Kona

  • 5 of 5

I hesitate to write what I really think because it will encourage more people to stay with Lisa and Martha, making it harder for us to find vacancies there! But we like them so what the heck: their home is hands-down the most welcoming, well provisioned, comfortable and consistent place that we've visited in Kona. I think we've been their guests maybe a half dozen times. We don't say this lightly given how frequently we visit the Big Island (typically every 3 months or so). We've tried perhaps 20 different VRBO properties in the Kona area since 2008. We like the fact that the house is conveniently located about midway between the upper and lower belt roads (close to town for shopping and dinner while also offering a quick escape hatch from traffic - particularly if heading to Holualoa, Kohala or Saddle Road). The house is situated far enough from the main road to offer peace and quiet. The grounds are lovely and provide a nice introduction to tropical and native hawaiian plants. The rock garden is both pretty and practical (for those who prefer to minimize contact with tropical insect life). We LOVE the attention to every little detail that Lisa and Martha provide - everything from sparkling clean rooms to well stocked kitchens. We've never been wanting for a piece of cookware or condiment (unlike many other VRBO homes) and they also thoughtfully offer an assortment of snacks, fresh fruit and drinks. It's really nice to arrive after a long flight and find that you don't have to rush to the market for basic necessities like COFFEE. As hosts they have a unique knack for giving guests privacy while being readily available to help answer questions. The aloha they bring to every interaction is part of what brings us back to Kona again and again. Mahalo nui loa to Lisa and Martha for making us feel at home!

Beautiful and peaceful tropical oasis :)

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a couple nights here and have nothing but good things to say about the accommodations. Lisa and Martha were wonderful hosts and it was obvious that they paid attention to every detail of our unit. The garden outside is absolutely breathtaking and we enjoyed the quiet and peaceful area around the property. Due to rain, we had to cancel some of our exploring plans, but honestly, we enjoyed just hanging out and relaxing for the day just as much!

Every Little Detail - Extraordinary Stay

  • 5 of 5

Convenient and very quiet/private location, great hosts - but what impressed us most was their attention to every little detail. We were surprised and delighted at every turn.. from the detailed and personalized welcome letter to the starter supplies in the kitchen to the motion detection night lights that meant we didn't stumble around for light switches. Buckets of labeled snorkel equipment are on the lanai, along with lounge chairs of several shapes and sizes. An array of brightly colored birds splash around the fountain in the immaculate little garden.

Highly recommended.

Every detail thoughtfully considered.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed this property, and were amazed by the thoughtful details throughout. From a fridge full of snack foods on our arrival to snorkel gear fresh and ready for use to great kitchen knives to the lovely, labeled fruit trees on the property, to the cooler ready to borrow, everything was designed with attention to the guests' ease.

The house is up on the hill above Kona and, though surrounded by neighborhoods, is set up against undeveloped acreage so you have a sense of peace and solitude. We spent every morning on the lanai sipping coffee and tea and listening to the birdsong. It was a relief to escape the hustle of Kona each evening to our home.

The only drawback was that driving was required to the choicest beaches. However, we got a good rhythm going in our days and we're able to explore north and south with equal ease. Overall, a welcoming spot with extremely thoughtful hosts and excellent value.

Wonderful! Quiet location despite the birds...they really just added ambience!

  • 5 of 5

Lisa and Martha kept the unit we rented in tip-top shape. There was snorkeling gear available and guide books to the Island's many "must see" places not to mention both Lisa and Martha's own recommendations. I was there to race Kona's iconic Ironman and found the location a quiet retreat from the crowded centre of town. Lisa and Martha even provided a wonderful post race treat!! Highly recommended!

Amazing location

  • 5 of 5

My stay was nothing but fantastic! Martha and Lisa were amazing and made sure that we were all doing well and the everything was perfect. The garden was stunning with all of the different fruit they have growing. The fresh pineapple was my absolute favorite. The room was very clean and having A/C was a huge plus considering the heat and humidity. One of the coolest things I think is most of the time if you just walk a couple feet in the garden you'll usually see 2-3 geckos. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the island.
