Overview

About the property

A modern mountain home nestled in scenic Boulder Canyon along Boulder Creek.

This is the perfect home away from home for those who want the best of both worlds - a restful getaway in the mountains, yet only a short drive away from downtown Boulder fun.

Open floor plan, beautifully furnished. 10-15 min from downtown Boulder; 25-30 min from Eldora ski resort; 5 min from Wedgewood on Boulder Creek.

The home's open floor plan features a large great room lined with floor to ceiling windows. French doors off the dining area lead to a 700 square foot deck that features a gas fire pit and BBQ.

The spacious and fully equipped kitchen features modern stainless appliances and quartz countertops. A large kitchen window overlooks the deck. The bar seating includes two conveniently-placed electrical outlets for plugging in cell phones, laptops, etc.

The living room features a wood burning fireplace (firewood provided), a leather sofa, and two leather chairs, a comfy LoveSac, and a 58" flat screen TV with cable, Apple TV, and Netflix.

The entry way includes a desk space and leads to the two bedrooms. The bedrooms are small compared to American standards, but they are beautifully appointed with lofted ceilings and skylights that give them a more spacious feel. The guest room includes books and games for use during your stay.

Both bathrooms have heated tile floors. The master bath has a large glass-enclosed shower. The master walk-in closet has a stackable washer/dryer. The guest bath has a claw foot tub with shower surrounded by beautiful epay wood.

NOTE: Owners (Jay & Joann) live in a separate garden-level apartment onsite. The apartment has its own exterior entrance and there is no connecting stairwell or door to the main house. The only shared space is the driveway. One parking space is provided for guests in the driveway. Additional parking is available near the bridge.

If you need anything during your stay or would like recommendations, just let us know. Otherwise, we will respect your privacy.

GUEST ACCESS

Keypad on front door to check-in/check-out independently and come and go as you wish.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:

-Pricing varies based upon the number of guests, so please ensure your reservation reflects the correct number of guests.

-There is no cellular service in the canyon; free wifi throughout the house can be used to operate cell phones. There is a land line with free calling throughout the continental U.S. provided for use.

- The driveway is gravel

- There's no food delivery here

- Given it's on Boulder Canyon, there can be traffic noise (especially during commute hours)

-Like the vast majority of properties in the foothills, this one doesn't have central A/C. At 6,300+ feet elevation, the temperature at the house is typically 10 degrees cooler than in the city (5,400') and rarely goes beyond the 80's. We do have an A/C wall unit that can be used to cool the great room on the warm days.

About Joann Nelson

Jay and I have a shared passion for the great outdoors, traveling and experiencing new things. We love the active, mountain lifestyle...which is a main reason why we both moved from the Midwest to Colorado after college. Jay is an avid mountain biker and adventure racer (kayak, mountain bike, rappel, trail run, navigation). I'm a distance runner and triathlete. I love running marathons and did my first full distance triathlon at the inaugural Ironman Boulder.

Perfect place to stay when in Boulder

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here while visiting our daughter at CU. It was a perfect distance from downtown, and we loved the beauty of the location. The house was clean, in perfect condition, and well-appointed. Joann went out of her way to welcome us with everything we would need and more. She was always quick to respond when we had questions. Next time we visit, we'll be sure to try and stay again! Thanks for everything!!

Fantastic Thanksgiving Location. Danny & Gail

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Tuesday afternoon with groceries in tow planning on preparing Thanksgiving dinner at our vacation rental. Of course with my wife always being prepared she had many of the condiments packed in our suitcases not knowing how well equipped the home would be.

Joann and Jay's rental is beautiful and welcoming and the location couldn't be better.

The home was clean and had everything we needed including explicit instructions with all electronics, etc..

Our daughter and son in law visited and we had Thanksgiving dinner here (thanks for the roaster, it really freed up the oven and worked perfectly). They have purchased land and are building a home and when they saw the kitchen and open floor plan they began measuring and formulating ideas. The best comment was "this is how we want our home to feel, welcoming when you enter".

The location is fabulous with the creek and the hiking, we discovered some of the old mines.

Thanks again Joann and Jay.

PERFECT FOR US!

  • 5 of 5

Joanne 's house on Boulder Canyon was spectacular.

Open, expansive layout with fabulous kitchen and very big-screen Samsung TV in the LR, with the 700 SF deck just outside made for totally relaxed environment, and beautiful.

Boulder Creek, babbling just below made for a wonderful, relaxing extra, there at all times.

The place was neat, VERY clean and and incredibly well equipped with the best in every respect.

We loved the location---

the short ride into Boulder down the canyon was a spectacular drive, every time!

Thanks Joanne!

Awesome stay in Boulder

  • 5 of 5

We spent 6 nights this June with our 10-year-old daughter in this terrific house — listened to the creek, took in the canyon and just relaxed out by the gas fire pit. The owners, Joann and Jay, did a great job with the place. While they live on the property in a separate apartment, they are not intrusive at all. In fact, they're wonderful people who are good to get to know. They also know how to take care of their guests and make it a special stay. I should also say that the place is well appointed and has just about everything you could need to cook. Every time we opened a drawer we found more stuff we could use. (Even a pizza cutter!) The house is very spacious and the bedrooms really comfortable.

The house is a short drive from town, and there are a number of great spots to stop off along the way if you want a relaxing walk or a run along the creek. We even saw moose one day.

This has really been one of our favorite locations, and we're hoping to return again next year.

Great family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to go to Boulder for Thanksgiving this year to spend time with our daughter who is a student at CU Boulder. Joann and Jay's home was perfect for our family of 5. The home is exactly what it appears to be from the photos on the website. Clean, contemporary, spacious, uncluttered and the best part about it were the magnificent windows overlooking the beauty of the woodsy outdoors. The beds were comfortable with clean white sheets and bedding! Something I am picky about! There was a hideaway bed in the living room where the kids, (one and sometimes two) slept quite comfortably...ages 20, 17 and 13, so not exactly little kids. The closet space in the master bedroom was more than we ever could've asked for with nice big pull out drawers and plenty of space to hang things.

We ate dinner out mostly every night, mainly because Boulder has so many great places to offer!! A couple of our favorites were The Kitchen on Pearl Street and The Flagstaff House Restaurant. But that's not to say we couldn't have made all of our meals at home. The kitchen is well equipt with everything one would need to prepare just about anything. All of the pots, pans, utensils, mixer, coffee maker, glasses, plates, microwave look brand new! The refrigerator is awesome with two big side by side doors and a freezer below. We did make Thanksgiving dinner at home and had no problem finding all we needed including a roaster for the turkey as well as plenty of room in the fridge for leftovers! My girls each made a pie and we didn't even need to buy pie pans because they of course were already there.

Joann and Jay were warm and welcoming upon our arrival. We felt comfortable just hanging out and being ourselves in the home and didn't at all feel we were being watched or supervised. As mentioned in other reviews, it felt so warm and inviting to find a welcome basket filled with snacks, related brochures & maps as well as a full array of beverages in the fridge!

The grand finally to our trip was actually waking up to snow on Thanksgiving morning! Being from San Diego that was quite a treat!

Oh and one last thing worth mentioning, if you at all enjoy doing puzzles they have a couple of challenging ones with NO MISSING PIECES! Haha! Lots to see and do in Boulder but something about putting together a puzzle on a snowy day while sipping hot chocolate doesn't get any better!
