About Jon and Bill Hautz and Sheryl Robertson

We stopped in Frankfort while on a bicycle trip around Crystal Lake and it was love at first sight. That was more than 20 years ago. After years of planning and researching, we have finally settled on a place where we can welcome family, friends and guests to share in our Michigan retreat.

Jon and Bill Hautz and Sheryl Robertson purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Jon and Bill Hautz and Sheryl Robertson chose Northwest

Dating back to 1890, this property is one of the early homesteads in Frankfort. The large yard with house and cottage provide us plenty of room to relax. The property is located on one of the most desirable streets in Frankfort and is a 5 min walk to the beach or bakery.

What makes this cottage unique

This property's location offers quick and safe access to the beach without having to worry about traffic which was a top priority for us. We want parents and children alike to feel safe on their jaunts to the beach. This ideal location makes it easy to return home for lunch or head down to the beach after dinner for spectacular sunsets.

Frankfort is a delightful city where all the essentials are within walking distance and, as a bonus, it is perched on the shore of the most beautiful of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan.

This combination of beach town and small town make it a most wonderful destination for an easy and relaxing vacation.

Frankfort offers restaurants with a wide range of cuisine and atmosphere, a quality book store, no less than four ice cream shops, shopping and even its own micro-brewery at The Storm Cloud where live evening music can be enjoyed many nights.

A bicycle is advantageous for quick trips to the Crescent Bakery for morning sweets or to Petals & Perks if someone else is to make the coffee. It also provides access to entertainment on the Betsie Bike Trail or around the bend to the open air Shakespeare Theatre in the Park.

Bicycles, paddle boards and other water toys are available for rent in town and kayaking, canoeing or tubing can be arranged through several nearby liveries.

Sleeping Bear Dunes are just a 40 minute drive (28 mi) north on M22 where a 'dune climb' is a must for the young and fit. Be sure to plan your trip to include a stop in Empire for a famous burger and a cold one at Joe's Friendly Tavern.

For winter skiing, Crystal Mountain provides over 50 runs and several high-speed lifts.

The Frankfort area boasts several farmer's markets to provide farm fresh fruits and vegetables for delicious eating on your vacation.

The Betsie Bay Lighthouses is open for touring and educational experiences for young and old.

The Frankfort public beach is easily accessible by foot, bike, or car with free parking, public washroom, swings, volley ball nets and a wide clean sandy beach for sunning, napping, swimming and playing. The sunsets are not to be missed; bring the camera! Ask us about the special secret beach nearby where you can enjoy a campfire at the waters edge.

Sweet little cottage.

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I absolutely loved staying here. So clean and comfortable. Walking distance to everything we wanted to do in town. I would recommend this cottage highly. Owners are as sweet as can be.

The cottage was small but sufficient and had everything we needed.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is a short 5 blocks away from Frankfort beach and about two and a half blocks from all of the main downtown shopping areas. Weird noise she was getting into the cottage and setting up for our vacation. Though this is a very small cottage, it works out fine because there's no reason to sit inside all day. My son and I walked to get donuts most mornings and it only took about 10 minutes. It is especially nice to be within walking distance of downtown because it is very busy and there is not much parking. We had one issue with the Wi-Fi being very slow and one quick text and it was fixed. Overall we had a great trip and had a lot of fun in a wonderful town.

The house was fine. Construction trucks and men at 7 am was too loud every morning.

Owner's Response: While we have no control over the project we do apologize for the noise. We are happy to see the outside work nearing completion. We asked the workers to wait until at least 8 to start their saws but will be happy to see them go!

Excellent!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely week at this cute cottage. The setting was perfect and the cottage itself was exactly as described, clean and stocked- a home away from home! We stayed with 2 little ones and couldn't have had a better time. Short walk to the beach and downtown. It was tough to leave and we're really hoping to stay again next summer!

Loved staying in this cottage! The best part was that it was so close to everything, we practically walked everywhere, which was nice! The cottage was very clean and cute and the owners were great. Had no complaints what so ever!! Would absolutely love to stay here again:)
