About the property

2 Bedroom Cottage In West Jefferson With River Access And WiFi

This 2009 built retreat features a 3000’ elevation, great mountain views, river access, a secluded location, and a huge screened porch.

The location of The Cottage is less than 10 minutes from Downtown West Jefferson where many festivals are held and many artisans keep shop. The town offers a few restaurants, bars, art galleries, an ice cream parlor, and a coffee shop. This is the only place in NC where cheese is made, and you can watch at the Ashe County Cheese factory downtown. Boone is a 25 minute drive, Appalachian Ski Resort is 45 minutes away, Beech and Sugar are about an hour drive.

Entertainment is provided by ROKU internet TV including programming by Netflix and Amazon Prime. Screen porch has a 19” TV with ROKU. Living has a 32” TV with ROKU. Full bedroom has a 13” TV with ROKU.

The kitchen includes a full compliment of cookware, silverware, and small appliances. Coffee by Keurig, bring your favorite K-cups. A small gas grill with complimentary fuel is provided. A full sized front-loading washer/dryer unit is down the hall when you need to wash a load of clothes. Detergent is provided.

Internet data flows via dual band WiFi at broadband speeds. You may connect your phone, tablet, laptop, etc. to the wireless network with ease. Download speeds average 15 Mbps. Please be advised there is no landline phone at the cottage, so you may want to verify your cell phone is set up for Wifi calling before arrival. Most cell service by any carrier is spotty at best in the mountains in general.

Guests enjoy river access via a private riverfront property that is yours exclusively during your stay. An elevated wood deck overlooks the South Fork of The New River. The River Access Lot is walking distance from The Cottage along a trail. A gravel road exists if you prefer driving, or if you are hauling boats in or out of the river.

Numerous walking trails are available to hike. There are over 5 miles of old logging roads and gravel roads to explore. Please be advised, the road to the cottage is a gravel one with a hairpin turn into the driveway. If you drive a large vehicle, you will have to make more than one attempt at the hairpin turn or park beside the driveway on the gravel road. You may have to back all the way out if you do not feel comfortable turning around.

Sorry, no pets.

About Jennifer Moore

Our family lives in Charlotte, NC. We have our own business there. We enjoy coming to the mountains to hike, canoe, fish, swim, and relax in the quiet.

Jennifer Moore purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Jennifer Moore chose West Jefferson

We built this cottage to suit a small family. We selected the location for the view, proximity to shopping, and being close to the New River. We wanted ease of maintenance and high quality.

What makes this cottage unique

The porch is a generous 12x30 and furnished to make the most of the outdoors. In the summer, when the Piedmont temps top a hundred, this 3000' high screened living area the best place to spend the afternoon.

Its hard to find a rental with river access, a well appointed home, a view, all tucked out of sight, yet so close to town.

Very restful, everything as advertised

  • 5 of 5

I definitely recommend this cabin. We very much enjoyed our stay and found everything to be clean, comfortable, and as described. The cabin is easy to get to and close to West Jefferson, but feels quite remote. Hiking trails and the river lot are lovely. The screened-in porch is a big plus; loved being able to keep the doors open and not worry about bugs. I would not recommend this cabin for more than four people if you plan to spend much time there, particularly in cold or rainy weather, but the porch would make that less of a challenge in good weather. Do be aware of the hairpin turn into the driveway and the recommendation to bring bottled water.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed in many mountain cottages over the years and this is one of my very favorites. From the minute my husband and I walked in the door we were in love. This beautifully decorated cottage is very well appointed with whatever one might need. My favorite feature was the screened in porch- quite large and with a beautiful view of mountains in the distance. Something else to be noted is the perfect cleanliness of the cottage. Whoever cleaned before we got there did a darn good job! We never made it to the river but we did explore West Jefferson and met many, many interesting and friendly people. We especially loved St. Mary's Episcopal Church with its frescoes and beautiful stained glass. Also enjoyed the stunning panoramic views we discovered in Mt. Jefferson State Park. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone!

Better than I ever imagined it could be!

  • 5 of 5

The house is very clean and modern. It is beautiful on the inside and similar to what I would have selected if it were my own. The screened porch was a huge enjoyment because the weather was so pleasant and there was a nice breeze. The view was nice and changed with the evening twilight as well as on a rainy day when the clouds masked Mt. Jefferson. I will definitely be returning to stay at this property. West Jefferson has become a new favorite mountain destination for me now.
