About the property

2 Bedroom Cottage In West Jefferson With River Access And WiFi

This 2009 built retreat features a 3000’ elevation, great mountain views, river access, a secluded location, and a huge screened porch.

The location of The Cottage is less than 10 minutes from Downtown West Jefferson where many festivals are held and many artisans keep shop. The town offers a few restaurants, bars, art galleries, an ice cream parlor, and a coffee shop. This is the only place in NC where cheese is made, and you can watch at the Ashe County Cheese factory downtown. Boone is a 25 minute drive, Appalachian Ski Resort is 45 minutes away, Beech and Sugar are about an hour drive.

Entertainment is provided by ROKU internet TV including programming by Netflix and Amazon Prime. Screen porch has a 19” TV with ROKU. Living has a 32” TV with ROKU. Full bedroom has a 13” TV with ROKU.

The kitchen includes a full compliment of cookware, silverware, and small appliances. Coffee by Keurig, bring your favorite K-cups. A small gas grill with complimentary fuel is provided. A full sized front-loading washer/dryer unit is down the hall when you need to wash a load of clothes. Detergent is provided.

Internet data flows via dual band WiFi at broadband speeds. You may connect your phone, tablet, laptop, etc. to the wireless network with ease. Download speeds average 15 Mbps. Please be advised there is no landline phone at the cottage, so you may want to verify your cell phone is set up for Wifi calling before arrival. Most cell service by any carrier is spotty at best in the mountains in general.

Guests enjoy river access via a private riverfront property that is yours exclusively during your stay. An elevated wood deck overlooks the South Fork of The New River. The River Access Lot is walking distance from The Cottage along a trail. A gravel road exists if you prefer driving, or if you are hauling boats in or out of the river.

Numerous walking trails are available to hike. There are over 5 miles of old logging roads and gravel roads to explore. Please be advised, the road to the cottage is a gravel one with a hairpin turn into the driveway. If you drive a large vehicle, you will have to make more than one attempt at the hairpin turn or park beside the driveway on the gravel road. You may have to back all the way out if you do not feel comfortable turning around.

Sorry, no pets.

About Jennifer Moore

Our family lives in Charlotte, NC. We have our own business there. We enjoy coming to the mountains to hike, canoe, fish, swim, and relax in the quiet.

Jennifer Moore purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Jennifer Moore chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We built this cottage to suit a small family. We selected the location for the view, proximity to shopping, and being close to the New River. We wanted ease of maintenance and high quality.

What makes this cottage unique

The porch is a generous 12x30 and furnished to make the most of the outdoors. In the summer, when the Piedmont temps top a hundred, this 3000' high screened living area the best place to spend the afternoon.

Its hard to find a rental with river access, a well appointed home, a view, all tucked out of sight, yet so close to town.

Cozy Cottage In The Woods

  • 3 of 5

Nice cottage with a good plan for a couple or small family. The porch across the entire of the cottage was lovely and the view of Mt Jefferson was a plus. The bathroom was nice and the beds were comfortable. The cabin was well supplied with paper and cleaning products. The kitchen was small, fine for a vacation. I do suggest using bottled water for cooking and for ice! An earlier review stated that a 4 wheel drive vehicle no longer than 17 feet would be necessary to turn into the driveway. I absolutely agree; we could not have managed with our large sedan! The driveway has a sharp angle off the gravel road. The owner was very pleasant and cooperative, but the cabin could have been cleaner. We have been renting cabins in the West Jefferson area for many years. This cottage is private, but close to West Jefferson which has restaurants, nice shops, and grocery stores. It is also close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin is surrounded by hardwoods and provides a nice getaway!

GREAT weekend getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

My family recently stayed in your mountain cottage for the weekend and we LOVED it! The cabin was the perfect size for our family of four (2 kids and 2 adults). We enjoyed everything the cabin had to offer! We spent most of the day Saturday down by the river. We choose to drive so we wouldn't have to walk back up the hills, and it was very easy to find. We lounged in the chairs by the water, swam and fished. Then, we relaxed on the spacious porch, where some of us even took a little nap. The weather was perfect, even in August. After a relaxing day, we went into downtown West Jefferson for dinner and happened to be able to listen to live music at the Hotel Tavern. It was nice to feel like you were in a secluded mountain top retreat, but also be so close to town.

As for the cabin itself, it was very clean, stocked, and just as advertised. The owner was very easy to work with and answered our questions in a timely manner prior to our trip. The instructions for arrival/departure and maps to the river access were a huge help. The owner has thought of everything to make your stay easy!

The only thing we would have changed is the ability for us to stay longer than a weekend! We will be back soon!

Your property is stunning with its view of the lone hill in the distance!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the fact that it was higher up with beautiful trees all around, yet still enough sunshine coming through. There is enough to see and do in the vicinity but it lends itself to having a rest away from the hustle and bustle! Access to The Blue Ridge Parkway is so close!

The cottage itself is very comfortable and is so well equipped, clean and tidy. We really enjoyed the closed in porch where we had most of our meals and enjoyed many evenings at the fire pit.Thank you for sharing your home away with us. We'd be back in a heartbeat!
