Our comfortable cottage sits on a dock close to town, over looking Lobster Cove

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

1 bedroom,1 bath and sleeper sofa, large dock and float, a real Maine Cottage

You can't get any closer to the water than this cottage. This cottage rests on a 250 foot working wharf, used by lobster men in the winter to store their traps and gain access to the water. Bring your boat with you and keep it at the float for an additional rental fee. (space is limited, call for details) You may be able to buy lobsters directly from a lobster man hauling traps in the cove. One cozy bedroom with a double bed and living room with a sleeper sofa, the cottage sleeps 2-4 people. The galley style kitchen has a 4 burner stove and oven to fill all of your basic cooking needs, or you can use the lobster cooker and grill out on the dock. The inside table seats 4, and when weather is nice, eating at the picnic table on the dock is perfect.

If you are looking for a place to disconnect, unwind and relax, come soak up the sun and fresh air or watch the sun rise over Lobster Cove. Treasure hunt the shore while the tide is out or toss in a lure and catch a striped bass or mackerel for dinner. Take a trip into town for a day of shopping or an evening at the Opera House which hosts a wide variety of entertainers such as Jackson Browne, Celtic Storm, Pete Best Band, and Marty Stewart.

Why Lisa Burnham chose Boothbay Harbor

In 1974 my parents were looking for a nice place to raise their family. They both had grown up on Lobster Cove Road. My father was a second generation lobster man. The property was perfect. They built our home across the street and began to expand the small existing dock to accommodate his lobster traps and fishing gear. For many years, he would build his own lobster traps in his work shop, which has now been completely renovated into Lobster Cove Cottage. My two teenage sons, forth generation lobster men, continue to fish their traps in the cove, (you may have a chance to see them). During the winter the dock is still used by six lobster men to store their traps and gear. My father built the dock with the help of his friends so other lobster men would continue to have access to the shore. I welcome the opportunity to share this wonderful cottage and the real Maine experience with visitors to the Boothbay Region.

What makes this cottage unique

This could be the opportunity of a lifetime to witness a real Maine working waterfront in action. Before the first week in June, the lobster men will be working on, preparing and setting their gear in preparation for the lobster fishing season. When you rent in the early season (at our early season rates), you can see them loading their boats, and the dock becomes a busy workplace. Unlike in the summer, during this busy time before June 1st, the dock is not available for guests use, and the float becomes available in early June.

If you want to wake up and know that you are in Maine, then is is the place! Be sure to pack your binoculars. My sister and I traveled from Wisconsin and Ohio and spent a week here to celebrate her 70th b-day. Our first trip to Maine for both of us. It is so convenient to downtown Boothbay Harbor!: about a 5 minute drive, or a beautiful 30 minute walk to the footbridge. The cottage is charming, comfortable and immaculate, and is fully equipped, including an outdoor lobster pot and grill. Lisa was so nice to work with, and is so accommodating to your needs.

This cottage sits right on the waters edge, with a huge dock to enjoy the amazing view and wildlife. After a busy afternoon in town, we found ourselves anxious to get back to the cottage. Some fresh baked bread, cheese, wine and comfortable adirondack chairs on the dock made for a perfect ending to the day. One night we bought live lobster and had a lobster boil. There are boats and small docks moored in the cove where herons, cranes and cormorants spend hours grooming themselves. We sat two mornings enjoying our coffee and watched two bald eagles, an adult and juvenile, perched on a nearby branch for over an hour. Amazing. We traveled in mid September, late in the season, and several evenings watched the fog bank slowly roll into the cove. The fog just added to the beauty of this place. Then we would just go inside, wrap in blankets, and watch Stephen King movies on Netflix. We woke up one morning to a lobster boat unloading and storing their lobster traps on the dock. How much more "MAINE" can you get!!!

And you won't believe the tide. When we first arrived, we wondered why the owners built their docks so high off the shore. Our question was answered 6 hours later!!!

Just a note that there are lots of steps to get in and out of the cottage. But if that is not a problem for you, then don't hesitate to book the Cottage on Lobster Cove. I hope to get back to Maine someday, and this will be my go to place.

The description is accurate: you can't get any closer to the water than this. Marvelous place right on the cove. The bedroom is right on the warf so you hear the waves and feel the sea breezes all night long. Lisa is a great host and offered helpful suggestions when we asked about several possibilities in the area. The place is clean and well supplied. It is also quite small and we wouldn't recommend it for 4 adults. For the two of us it was fine but 4 adults would have been crowded. With two children it probably would be fine. Lisa does have an additional property across the street that is larger and has a view of the water that would be better suited for larger families. We would definitely check both properties out again if we return to the area without question. We really liked how close to town it was but also far enough away that it was restfully quiet in the evenings.

Quaint cottage on a beautiful and relaxing bay.

My family loved this cottage. We had two kids (ages 8 and 11) that fit perfectly on the pullout couch and my husband and I were very comfotable in the one bedroom. I could not imagine a better place to wake up to and have a cup of coffee watching the sunrise. The kids had a great time walking around during low tide and jumping off the dock when the tide came up. The cottage is close enough to town for an easy walk, but far enough away to leave the town behind and completely relax at the cottage. My only suggestion would be to have a kayak or two for the renters. If they were available, I could see us not feeling the need to leave at all!! This is a trip not soon to be forgotten and a lot of this was due to staying here. Highly recommended!!
