Great View!

  • 5 of 5

The view, of course, is the main selling point of this property. It really was amazing and we got great shots of the sunset in the mountains. To get a view this good- you have to be up in the mountains. That means the drive up is a little intense. We had thought about renting a large van to bring our whole family but ended up taking 2 vehicles- it's a good thing we did. A large van (15 passenger) would not have done well on the drive up.

We did see a bear turning off the main road, I got a few pictures before it went into the woods. No bears by the house that we saw.

The town of Clayton is easily accessed for supplies, but it is a very small town. There are a few restaurants and they are tourist-priced. We ended up driving the 45 minutes to Helen where we shopped, ate at the Troll Tavern (do not recommend), and went tubing on the river. We also went to Anna Ruby Falls and hiked up to the falls- beautiful!

The weather was mostly clear when we were there, so we spent a lot of time on the main floor back porch overlooking the mountains/lake. Even rain looked cool one day. We used the grill on 2 of our nights and it was great. There are plenty of brushes to clean the grill- we found 3 after we bought one in town, lol.

The house has a few quirks that need to be updated but was overall nice. The main floor has 2 bedrooms, a swing bed that my 12yr old loved and the bedroom with the attached bath I believe had a king bed? But it's a very high bed. There is a step stool to climb up into it. The bathroom only has a shower, no tub on this floor.

The downstairs has a room with a ping-pong table, a room with a picnic table (that we did not use) and a laundry room, as well as a bedroom with a full bath with a tub shower. I believe that is a queen bed.

The upstairs has 2 bedrooms, the room with bunk beds only has 1 bunk bed and one single bed that used to be a bunk for a total of 3 beds. There is a full bathroom outside the "kids room" with a tub shower. There is also a master bedroom with an attached bath that has a king bed. It also has a large soaking jacuzzi tub (we did not use it) as well as a regular tub/shower combo.

As far as accessibility, the house has 3 steps to the door. The beds on the main floor are not good for those with mobility issues and the other beds are either up or down a floor. The banister to 2nd floor only goes half way.

Renters are responsible for trash- you have to drive 6 miles to the recycling center, not open on Sunday

Beautiful mountain home with Spectacular view of Lake Burton and the mountains

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect home for our family to unite for several days. High on the mountain, it has an incredible and ever-changing vista with breezes blowing through the porch, we were tempted to stay there the entire visit! There were plenty of bedrooms and space to spread out and all beautifully appointed. There is a fireplace and warm blankets to snuggle in if the evening gets cool. The kitchen is large and has what you need for any meal preparation. If you want to come down off the mountain-and you should ! - there is a marina nearby for boat rental on Lake Burton. There are shops and restaurants in the town of Clayton. We enjoyed Fortify. Great food and friendly service. We drove to Tallulah Falls for the view and a hike. Then, back to the house to enjoy the view again. It was also not far to Highlands NC for and afternoon of lunch and shopping. The host was responsive and very easy to work with. She checked on us a few times to make certain everything was ok and that we were happy. And we were!!! We would love to come back again!

Magnificent Lake Burton Mountain House!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time staying in this magnificent mountain house! The house is immaculate in every way. My family had the best vacation staying at this house. The views are so beautiful and breathtaking, and the interior is right out of Sourthern Living. I highly recommend this house. You will not be sorry, and we cannot wait to come back. The owners were so nice and accomidating and we really enjoyed working with them. *****

Amazing views, comfortable and stylish. Perfection on Lake Burton!

  • 5 of 5

Spent a girls' weekend here in January and could not have been happier. The interior of this home is incredibly comfortable and mountain-chic, with plenty of room for friends or a family to spread out. The bed I slept in was extremely comfortable and the rope swing bed was a unique spot for lounging with a book. While the interior is great, the outdoor spaces here are SPECTACULAR. Curl up with a glass of wine, a blanket and spend your days enjoying the view of Lake Burton. For dining options, check out some fun spots in Clayton or the Farmhouse at Persimmon Creek (but make reservations). And, of course, the Old Edwards Inn is within driving distance and the perfect spot for a spa treatment. While our group did not actually go out on the lake (it was cold!!), the marina was nearby and easily accessed. Lastly, the owners were wonderful - prompt in responding, super nice and just very easy to deal with. I highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a mountain or lake getaway!!
