Great location, responsive host
While we loved the cottage, we were there during an unusually hot week, and it was impossible to cool the place down (sits out in the open sun). We also had serious wifi issues (not in the control of the owner). Good kitchen, great amenities, comfortable beds (though small, so my husband and I stayed in separate rooms), tiny bathroom. Overall would recommend.
What a great week of weather - unusually warm for this area, especially right on the ocean! The Wi-Fi has been completely changed over to cable broadband - the fastest available in this area! Before the next season, we are going to renovate the bathroom, making it a little larger and easier to move around in. We hope you will consider us again for a future visit!
Adorable, cozy cottage
I loved it, the size, the quiet environment, the mountain/water views, the wildlife and the plentiful shooting stars were amazing. The plush towels were a bonus. I loved the two chairs in front of the picture window, such a cozy spot for coffee on a cold morning. Oh and the swing, many hours spent reading on that thing, it was super comfortable. Great location too, close to grocery store and Beal’s for lobster meals to go, for a nice dinner on the porch. It was a wonderful, magical stay. Thanks!
A great location in a well-maintained, comfortable cottage.
Our family (2 adults, 1 child, 1 dog) stayed at Simple Pleasures last week and loved it. The view, location and amenities were all great. We've stayed at a number of places on MDI over the years and this one was right up at the top of the list for us. Falling asleep to the sound of the lapping water and loons crying never gets old. We will definitely be back.
It's clear that the cottage is well taken care of and the comfort and needs of the renters were really thought through. Kim was very easy to work with and considerate of our needs.
If you're looking for a fancy, luxurious place to stay, this may not be your place. But if you want a comfortable, workable, fun cottage to stay in as you spend time in Acadia, you can't go wrong with Simple Pleasures.
Simple Pleasures had a few renovations and some updating - it's great that you appreciate these improvements. I enjoyed working with you on the rental of this cottage and we look forward to your return!
We enjoyed our stay a lot and highly recommend this property to everyone!
We stayed here (4 people - 2 couples) from 8th till 15th of October 2017. We had a really great time! Fall foliage in Acadia is really beautiful. Very homey atmosphere in the cottage, the fireplace adds a lot of coziness. The view is simply amazing! Loved to have a cup of morning coffee on the terrace enjoying the quietness and the view. I think we had everything we needed, in the kitchen as well. Having a dishwasher would be even more perfect. The cottage has a great location, pretty close to everything - about 15-20 minutes by car to Bar Harbor and most of the hiking trails, even closer to the west part of the park, e.g. Acadia Mountain or Beech Mountain trail, walking distance to Echo lake.
There were also some minor downsides which did not however prevent us from enjoying our stay. The bathroom does not have any heating, so we had to keep it's door open overnight so it would be warmed up, otherwise it was freezing there in the morning. The furniture is a bit old, which adds charm but also some inconvenience - for example opening drawers of the kitchen cabinets and bedroom dresser was not so easy. So to freshen the furniture up a little wouldn't be a bad idea. The internet speed was a bit slow, mobile internet worked better then the one in the cottage. The payment process was complicated because the owner does not accept credit cards or Paypal or bank transfer, only checks. But since we live in Germany, sending a check to the USA was a problem for us, also because German banks do not support check payments anymore. Luckily our friends from Boston have offered their help and sent a check to the owner for us.
Nevertheless we had such an amazing time and would be happy to stay here again when we are next time in Acadia. Especially if the downsides would be fixed and the owner would accept other payment options ;-)
Not an advertisement, just my personal opinion, maybe it will be useful for somebody :) I highly recommend a travel guide "Acadia: The Complete Guide: Acadia National Park & Mount Desert Island" by James Kaiser, which provides a lot of useful and interesting information about the national park and surroundings, its history, flora and fauna, activities, description of the best hiking trails, etc.
We are happy it all came together so quickly and you were able to enjoy the cottage! We addressed the payment issue and are now accepting payment thru VRBO - a much easier process for our guests. We are adding a washer and dryer to the cottage as an extra convenience. We hope you will think of us again if you visit this area in the future.
Just great! What a special place - loved it!
We had a very good time at this cabin. The place was clean and cute, not to mention the view of the water and montains!
Mike (the owner) was very helpful and provided a lot of tips for visiting the surrounding area.
The kitchen was well equiped with all necessary equipment and ustensils to make a confortable vacation week.
We will recommend this property for any family travelling with children in the area. Good location and no more than 10-15 min from the Acadia park entrance.
Please visit the "www.ouracadia.com" website before you arrive in the area. You will not need anything else (besides a map) to have plenty of summer fun in the area.
Happy to hear you enjoyed the cottage, the weather certainly cooperated.
