Ranch country charm
We love the country and this place was in the middle of ranch land. A nice escape from the coastal tropics but convenient to beaches and sights. The place is new and clean with comfortable furnishings and nicely decorated. Wish we could have stayed longer and the night sky had been clear so that we could see the stars.
If you're looking for a quiet retreat with a mountain location every bit as breathtaking as the photos in this area, you cannot go wrong.
I would suggest with the cooler temperatures at this elevation to definitely pack warm house slippers with the home request to remove shoes upon entering. Removing shoes is the local custom, however, visitors unfamiliar should at least be forewarned that the floor is freezing!
Since we live on island and are aware of the seclusion of this particular part of the island, we thought we had packed accordingly. Not so. There are zero condiments in the fridge and I had to search high and low beginning with the bar area, to the far opposite end of the kitchen to find a wine opener. A little bit of pepper in a shaker and no salt to be found led us to make an hour roundtrip drive to town in order for basics to complete a meal that in past rentals had at least been standard. Since we were only there for two nights and had not planned to leave, it was not at all convenient.
Property states two fireplaces but only one was available for use, therefore we did not occupy that area with gorgeous views, which was disappointing.
Also note that the ohana guest house is occupied when you book at this rate, so the property does not afford 100% privacy.
We love to stay at vrbos and the idea to feel at a home away from home, but this fell short on basic conveniences for us. I had to search each bathroom to locate a hairdryer and also under cabinets to find shampoo and conditioner. While I did bring my own toiletries, thank god, my fiancé did not. Boasting luxury accommodations, we just never expected to be on such a hunt for standard basics. We soaked the sheets in the sink with an accidental spill, yet with no washer and dryer on site and only watered down soap refilled in hand soap canisters, we were only partially successful. We spent 30 minutes stripping the bed and did our best with 95% success, but not good enough. When the security deposit was docked, we regretted we had wasted our time trying.
I would love to recommend this place and absolutely do. Beautiful home. Plenty of space. Magical part of the island. As long as you pack everything you could possibly need, think of it as glamping maybe.
Aloha Jessica, Thank you for your review!
I am a bit confused on a few things on your review? I double checked in our bar area and kitchen and we have a total of 5 wine openers including an air pump cork opener? There is a Costco Pink Himalayan Salt grinder in the refrigerator (For humidity ) and we have a full laundry area that guests use- washer and dryer as well as laundry soap, bleach and stain remover, right next to the boogie boards, beach chairs, coolers, slippers and beach toys. There is a hairdryer in each bathroom under each sink. Body soap is provided in the shower-- but most people have a preference for shampoo and conditioner so we will leave extra in the cabinet, but it is not in the showers. We are at 3200 feet so in March it is quite warm during the day and can get chilly at night (thank goodness for the hot tub!), unfortunately we are on an island (as you live here too) and Fireplace repair is not instantaneous. I am and have been available to guests nearly at all hours, so if you had had any questions or needed extra condiments, I do wish you had contacted me :) Thank you again, a hui ho!
Unique slice of Paradise!
Couldn't have been more beautiful. The home is well stocked and honestly feels nothing short of magical. Rainbows, animals, and views for miles. By far the best stay we had over the few weeks we were on big island. Thank you for sharing with us, Mahalo!
Terri is a wonderful host. Her houses are spitting images of the pictures on VRBO. If you're looking for a quite, relaxing/cozy place with a gorgeous view, you need to stay here. You will NOT be disappointed. We rented both the Ranch Retreat and Ohana Hale for the weekend of my wedding at Kahua Ranch. The locations were perfect. Walking distance to our venue. The beautiful scenery created a calming atmosphere while 8 bridesmaids were getting ready. Every room in these houses had its own theme, and our photographer and I loved the lighting in one in particular. We even had our own photoshoot in one! The night after the wedding, some friends and I relaxed in the hot tub after a night filled with dancing.
Terri, thank you so much for being a fantastic host and opening up your houses to us. Kahua Ranch has a special place in our hearts now and we will defiantly plan to stay again!
Green, hilly, and beautiful! Gorgeous sunset from the house.
Beautiful House on a Beautiful Ranch
Our stay at the Kahua Ranch was beyond amazing. The house is beautiful and a perfect combination of rustic ranch house and luxurious living. We cooked a few times in the well-stocked kitchen and sat in the hot tub at night, looking at the stars. Terri was so welcoming and very responsive to any questions. The Ranch is shockingly beautiful and the scenery is ever-changing with sunsets and cloud formations. I highly recommend the Ranch as your home-base to explore the island.
