About the property

We are thankful for our 3rd season with VRBO and are thrilled with the response we have received from our visitors to The Perch on Lake Glenville (formerly known as Northlake Lodge)! Our visitors' reviews, loving our porches, prompted the renaming of our place to 'The Perch on Lake Glenville'. 'The Perch' reflects the fact that our lodge is perched on the mountain directly on the lake and has beautiful 'perches' (porches) from which to enjoy the breathtaking views! The name change also emphasizes the whimsical nature of this special setting. Our home is directly on the lakefront of stunning Lake Glenville (the largest lake in the area), in Trillium’s golf, lake, and mountain resort community in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Cashiers. At an elevation of almost 4,000 feet, we are situated on one of the highest--and coolest--spots in the North Carolina Mountains.

The Perch on Lake Glenville is a very peaceful, inviting home-away-from-home, with soaring cathedral ceilings and post and beam construction. On the upper floor is a galley kitchen, a great room with new dining room and gracious living area, a wood-burning stone fireplace and half bath. The master bedroom is also on this level and features a king bed, generous walk in closet, and a large bath with jetted tub and separate shower. A wrap around deck with breathtaking views of Lake Glenville is accessible from the living area and has a new gas grill, table for dining, and plenty of seating.

The lower level of the lodge features an additional master bedroom with a king bed, private full bath and closet. An additional bedroom has two twin beds, closet and full private bath. Between these two rooms, there is a TV/living area with a queen pullout couch and a common area with sink, fridge and microwave. A closet in this area houses the washer/dryer. The deck on this level is accessible from both the twin bedroom and the living area and is equipped with a porch swing, table for playing games or eating, lots of nice seating and access to the back yard, lake and dock.

Special features of The Perch include the tranquility of a special Lake Glenville location, immediate access to our backyard dock for boating and lake activities, private parking for up to three vehicles and a short walk to the Landings Restaurant.

Lake Glenville is one of the centerpieces of the Trillium community. This 1500-acre lake is a water sports paradise. Fed by three waterfalls, the lake is a wonderful venue for swimming, skiing and wakeboarding. Canoeing, kayaking and simply cruising supply much enjoyment, especially at dusk when the sun is setting behind the mountains that border the lake. Pontoon boats and canoes are available for rent on site, and there are other marinas on the lake that provide various types of boat rentals as well.

Membership in Trillium Links and Lake Club, which allows use of all Trillium amenities, is available to all renters. In addition to an exceptional clubhouse with breathtaking views, these amenities include a spectacularly scenic golf course, a chip and putt course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a full service state-of-the-art fitness and massage center (including indoor tennis court, basketball, sauna, cardio and strength training equipment), swimming pool, fishing, hiking trails, horseback riding, the aforementioned boating, an attractive lake club, two restaurants, organized activities for both adults and children, and much more. Rivers, waterfalls, more lakes, and several national parks, including the Pisgah National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, are nearby. Whitewater rafting and paddling and the fabulous Biltmore Estate are all within an easy drive. Asheville is also home to other attractions such as a zoo and a botanical garden.

A grocery store, farmers' market, and other antique, arts and crafts and retail opportunities are conveniently located in the mountain village of Cashiers just a few minutes from Trillium. The town of Highlands, where art and antique galleries and shops selling local crafts line the main street, is approximately 10 miles away. Along with upscale shopping and restaurants of all kinds, spa services are available there. For those who enjoy music, the Brevard Music Festival which takes place every summer is always a treat. And in the fall, the leafing season provides a colorful backdrop against which to appreciate the tranquil beauty of this extraordinary mountain setting.

We are eager to meet you and hope that you will come experience the bountiful activities, beauty and peacefulness of both Trillium and western North Carolina!

A delightful haven that soothes and stimulates the heart, mind, soul, and body

  • 5 of 5

The Perch is an absolutely delightful haven! Beautiful inside and outside...so very comfortable with every necessity for a stress free vacation at our finger tips...a gorgeous view of Lake Glenville from the porches and the rock terrace. We so enjoyed communing with nature on a variety of trails in the fabulous Trilium community and quaint local towns of Cashiers and Highlands. Trilium's Memorial Day Celebration was a special treat with great food, dancing to a live band, and a truly remarkable tribute to our veterans. Confort and beauty all in one

  • 5 of 5

Our family decided to head to the mountains instead of the beach which is our normal get away and what a great decision it was. The house was located right on the lake with a boat slip. We enjoyed eating all of our meals on the porch overlooking the water and my husband and I enjoyed a glass of wine out there at sunset. There is plenty of room for everyone to sit and read a book or be on their device with the wifi. The two sitting areas made it possible for our teenage girls to have some space of their own downstairs. We rented a boat at the local marina and enjoyed a day on the water, taking occasional breaks were possible because of the boat slip that was located almost directly in front of the house. Another day we took a hike that was located just down the road (walking distance) from the house. There are plenty of TV's but we were so busy that they didn't come on much. Bedrooms were comfortable and each had it's own connecting large bath. We cooked most of the time in the well stock kitchen or gas grill. The house was clean, comfortable, charming with an upscale cabin feel. We are already talking about returning next year.

Wonderful Family Memories Were Made....

  • 5 of 5

We visited in late August 2016. The temperature never got above 80 degrees which is what we were looking for to escape the Florida summer heat. It was beautiful! Enjoyed our time on the lake on our rented pontoon boat exploring the lake and the waterfalls. Water was not cold, but refreshing. Hiking trails are everywhere to enjoy nature. Played a lot of golf on the magnificent course. They let us rent a cart to take the family out to see the course in the evening. Was a highlight! We did it twice... We fished from the dock and caught small fish that thrilled the grandbabies. House itself was very well maintained and spacious. Plenty of room for the six of us. Two large decks provided serene views of the lake and it was only a short walk down to the water. Very easy to get up and down the hill to the water with two and three year olds. Do not hesitate to book this beautiful lodge!

Two weeks in the mountains of North Carolina

  • 4 of 5

Extremely well furnished home for a vacation rental property with owners who are very helpful if needed. However, you probably will not need anything. A bit of a drive to access the club facilities except for the Lodge restaurant & the boat rentals. Lots of steps from the house to access the dock on the lake. Parking is ideal with entrance to the main level. Quiet relaxing setting... a great getaway. A beautiful challenging golf course with friendly staff in the pro shop & restaurants.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your beautiful review of our home. We are so happy you could relax and enjoy this special place. You are too funny about the stairs down to the lake. That's what happens when you are lakefront with the house set on the side of a mountain!! We are grateful to have two porches out back, off of each floor of the house, allowing those who don't like stairs to simply enjoy the views of the lake from the porches. We certainly understand that some folks might prefer properties where the lake is accessible directly out the back door of the house and not down a flight of stairs. We loved having you as guests in our home!

Super location and as represented in every detail

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at "The Perch" and were very pleased with everything including the location (directly on Lake Glenville) and the very specific owner instructions on all mechanical systems and appliances. The home was fully furnished and supplied including ample towels ,coffee filters, paper towels, spices, etc., as well as activity suggestions. All in all, five stars and we hope too stay at the perch again.
