About the property

Cute Cottage

You cant beat this location. It is lakefront at its best. It is also near anything your hearts desire. If you like to fish, swim, shop, hike, go to festivals, wineries or just hang, this is the perfect spot. This wonderful cottage is located on the southwest side of beautiful South Lake Leelanau. This is an all-sports lake with great fishing, water sports, and sightseeing. You can explore more than 20 miles of shoreline, visit North Lake Leelanau, or dock your boat in the quaint town of Leland and shop in 'Fishtown'. Rental of the cottage includes free use of our boat hoist while you are here.

The cottage is located on a small access road called Solon Park Road, which is about three miles north of the town of Cedar. It is a two-story house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are all upstairs, and one full bath upstairs, and one full bath downstairs. The lake area in front of the cottage is beautiful, with about a two-mile expanse across the lake.

The cottage is directly on the lake (there is no road between the cottage and the lake) and the water is about 80 feet from the cottage. Large trees at the water's edge provide cool shade on summer days. The lake bottom is sandy, with a very gradual drop off (about three-feet deep at 100 feet from shore). The shoreline is grass up to water's edge.

Enjoy wonderful sun and moon-rises from your wrap-around porch. Truly a functional and lovely get-away. Hard-pan sandy lake bottom, great for youngsters to swim and play. No thru-traffic on this private shared road. Open floor plan on main level with durable flooring, spacious entry/laundry room. Charming cottage style decor. Boating on this 20-mile lake seems endless. Spend the entire day on the lake topped off with a great dining experience in Cedar, Lake Leelanau, or Leland by-boat. So much more to experience on this, the greatest all-sports inland lake in the area. The charming village of Cedar is less than a 5 minute drive and only 20-minutes to downtown TC.

About Heather Wares

My husband grew up in this area and I have been here more than 20 years. We just purchased this cottage spring 2015. We look forward to sharing it with our guests. We have two children (9 & 11 yrs old). We love to water ski, tube, and swim in the water. This is a perfect spot. We bought this property because we LOVE the location.

Why Heather Wares chose Northwest

We love that this cottage is an open floor plan with a huge stone fireplace, 2 full bathrooms and 3 bedrooms. There is lots of charm and character. We also love the outdoor spaces. The two outdoor balconies and the wrap around porch with the lake view are hard to beat. We also put in a fire pit for s'mores. Very important;-)

What makes this cottage unique

The best feature is location, the flat lot, and the waterfront. We like that it is 20 mins from Traverse City, and 4 minutes to the village of Cedar. It is also minutes from Lake Michigan, Suttons Bay, Leland, and Glen Arbor. There are several wineries within a 20 mile radius.

Perfect girls weekend!

  • 5 of 5

A group of 8 of us ditched the city life for a long weekend to relax at the Wares lake house and it couldn't have been more perfect! Definitely recommend bringing your own firewood and bottled water. But the house was so clean and well decorated. Very spacious, open environment in the kitchen/living room. The sunrise views were amazing, and the wrap around porch was perfect! Close distance to anything you would want to do in the Traverse City/Suttons Bay area. We will definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you Gina!! We are glad you enjoyed your stay! Just an FYI for future guests: we have a water purification/filtration system for the bathrooms and laundry. In the spring we will have it plumbed, so filtration will go to kitchen faucet as well. Therefore there should be no need to bring bottled water. Thanks again!!

Beautiful sunrises every morning!

  • 4 of 5

The property is beautiful. Loved the fire pit and the morning sunrises. House was clean and kitchen was well equipped. You might want to bring bottled water for drinking as we noticed a funny odor to the water. Easy drive to Suttons Bay, Leland and Traverse City. A lot of local wineries to enjoy.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at our cottage. All our water is filtered to both our bathrooms and laundary through Culligan water filtration system. We have a separate line going into our kitchen which we are fixing this fall allowing the kitchen faucet to be filtered. We have had it tested it is safe and healthy to drink. We are glad you enjoyed yourself!! Thank you Heather

Great Cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at several places and we truly enjoyed this cottage. The location was great (on the water and with regard to nearby towns). The house was so cute and clean. It felt like a true cottage, and had just the right amount of modern conveniences. It was spacious too. It was well stocked in the kitchen, linens, and they even supplied enough toilet paper, garbage bags, etc. There were plenty of board games for a rainy day and movies. There were also plenty of yard games and a hammock for resting. We enjoyed the use of the paddle board and row boat as well. The lot was flat which was convenient. The lake at this spot was sandy and not mucky at all. Our favorite spot was just sitting on the porch with coffee or a glass of wine. I would highly recommend this place. The owners were easy to work with and were very friendly.

Fabulous Lake House

  • 4 of 5

Having spent more than a decade living in Michigan, my family and I *finally* decided to vacation near the lake. The Wares Cottage was a perfect selection! The location and proximity was perfect for exploring the neighboring towns and other fun tourist attractions like Sleeping Bear Dunes. The porches, yard and dock were fabulous for our two 11 year old girls to play and explore. We'd pluck them out of the water late at night after a full day of fun and they'd sleep peacefully. The kitchen was perfect for quick meals that we'd enjoy on the patio. Overall, the cottage was spacious and fit our group of 6 perfectly. If you enjoy photography, the sunset over the lake is stunning and will give you great opportunity to take some amazing vacation pics. Heads up: if you're not used to well water, bring some bottled water to use for coffee. The upstairs tub is quite slippery, so if there are little ones or older adults with balance issues, consider placing a towel on the bottom to keep them safe.

The owner was an excellent communicator and was completely proactive about making sure we arrived safely. When we had a concern during our stay, she responded immediately and sent an expert to remedy the situation. I'm thrilled with the interaction as well as the overall experience with VRBO.
