About us: Julia, originally from Providence, and Bernard, originally from Chicago met in St Louis and together went to Brooklyn where we bought a brownstone and raised our two children. We loved the Berkshires spending summers here till we moved permanently 17 years ago. She was an ESL teacher and painter and he a self-employed writer. We looked at over 70 houses but chose this for it’s artistic vibe, big spaces, high ceilings, beautiful natural setting and great central Berkshire location.
Bernard & Julia purchased this house in 1998
We have enjoyed living here year-round for the past 18 years. We rented the house for the first time in August 2015 and to two different renters and it was very successful. We hope the many photos will speak for themselves. We can provide more. If you have a friend/family member in the Berkshires, we’d be glad to show them the house on your behalf.
While we live with many antiques this is a comfortable family house (not pristine or fussy) and we want any renters to feel comfortable making it their home for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. We will be happy to make suggestions for restaurants and other activities in the area. A gardener and mower will come once a week.
We had a wonderful family reunion at the Edmonds' home. It is perfectly situated, close to Lenox and Stockbridge, with Great Barrington and Pittsfield an easy drive. We managed to spend a fall week, getting lucky, timing the leaves as they were peaking in color; and with the house surrounded by trees, everywhere you looked was like a painting. The bedrooms and bathrooms were very comfortable. The living spaces, where we all gathered were the greatest reminder for me, as to why I enjoy renting a house with my extended family, as opposed to hotel rooms. You could feel as though you were at home, and enjoy the experience so much more, together. The kitchen and eat in area were bright, open, and could handle several cooks and helpers. The living room was large and cozy, filled with furniture that we could sink into and artwork that brought the room alive. My family and I very much enjoyed our stay.
This home is in the perfect location for anyone seeking an adventure in the Berkshires, whether it be a restful and peaceful escape, or a recreation-filled and adventurous couple of weeks. It is close to all of the towns that offer plays, music, dance, shopping, dining and strolling. And for the sports enthusiasts there is more to do than can be listed in any review...including hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, and on and on.
The house itself is spacious and more than comfortable and offered a perfect space for entertaining our friends and relatives for overnights and weekends. It was well-stocked and the landlords were gracious and generous, kindly offering us the use of pretty much everything and anything in the house. Really so sweet of them and made it all the more special to be there.
During our stay it was clean and well maintained by the cleaning crew and gardeners the owners hired to make sure our stay was work-free. Our only chore was to cut some fresh flowers if we wanted, or pick the cherry tomatoes and herbs we wanted for cooking. In addition to the detailed instructions the owners left us that answered any potential questions we might have had, they provided us with lists of places to visit and things to do that well exceeded any travel book! Plus they were always available and accessible via phone and email.
All told this is a 5 star winner, and we highly recommend this home and these landlords!
The house was beautiful and inviting. The paintings are clearly influenced by Pearlstein. The artist is one of the owners . Her studio is the largest room in the house. The location of the house is perfect for most of the popular cultural venues. I would recommend the house to art lovers and culture enthusiasts.
Easy walk to Shakespeare & Company, Edith Wharton's "Mount," Ventfort Hall (the Museum of the Gilded Age), and Lenox village.
