About Frances Wechsler

The Wechsler Family is from Decatur, GA. Along with our four children we enjoy cycling and horseback riding. We are quite active in the cycling community and have enjoyed hosting many rides in Dupont and along the Blueridge Parkway with friends and family. Several of our friends are professional cyclists who enjoy staying at Trail-Side for training.

We are very relaxed and want our guests to enjoy the cabin as much as we do.

Frances Wechsler purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Frances Wechsler chose Smoky Mountains

In 2013 we went to Brevard to visit our daughter at Camp Eagle's Nest and rented a cabin adjacent to Dupont State Park. We had never visited the area and fell in love with it at once. We were amazed at the beauty of the forest and waterfalls with such easy access to activities we are passionate about.... horses and bikes! . While out biking we came upon Trailside Escape and couldn't resist purchasing it because of its quaint style and incredible location. Tom is an avid biker and I have 2 horses. The location of the house eliminates the travel time of hauling horses and bikes to and from Dupont. We have spent 2 years renovating and preparing the property to share with others. Now we hope that you can enjoy it as much as we do.

Perfect Mountain Escape

  • 5 of 5

This is our first time to visit Asheville and we wanted to find a place that offered quiet and peaceful isolation yet close enough to the city, hiking trails and scenic spots. Trailside Escape offered a cozy retreat tucked close to wonderful Dupont Forest where we hiked through several waterfalls including one that was in The Hunger Games. The owners did a lovely job of decorating the cabin to give it a homey feel. It felt like our home in the mountains. Our family enjoyed playing board games at night and just relaxing. Lastly, the owner, Frances, was extremely helpful and even gave good recommendations for fun activities.

Perfect Getaway with convenience

  • 5 of 5

Trailside Escape was PERFECT for my family! The property was beautiful and right in the middle of the Dupont Forest and a quick drive to waterfalls such as Wintergreen, Hooker, and Triple Falls. There are so many more that are literally around the corner from the cabin, but we only had time for the three. Downtown Brevard is an easy 10 minute drive from the cabin. We enjoyed cooking burgers on the grill and made smores for dessert over the campfire. The trails were easy enough for my 8 and 10 year old nephews and my elderly father. My dogs loved running on the property and on the trails. Again, everything was perfect, my husband and I would love to return to the cabin in the summer. Looks like we found our go to cabin!

Peaceful Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Trailside Escape is a PERFECT peaceful retreat for groups or families interested in "getting away from it all" but not being too remote. While you're at the cabin, you feel like you have the mountains and the woods to yourself, but you're conveniently located adjacent to DuPont State Park (we ran there) and only 10 - 15 minutes from downtown Brevard. The cabin has a nice open floor plan that makes socializing while cooking easy and fun, and the long front porch has a beautiful view. It was raining while we were there, so we didn't get to use the firepit or the grill, but wished we could have. We did make a fire in the woodstove, and the owners had plenty of wood available for that. The couches and love seat are perfect for getting cozy with a book. Frances was very responsive and helpful throughout the process. We'll be back!

Great stay, very nice cabin,, convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is located in a very convenient location to the Dupont State Forest and waterfalls and Pisgah National Forest. A short drive to Brevard and the town of Hendersonville. Nobody in sight for days from the cabin, which we loved, especially coming from a big, bustling city. The cabin is fully equipped. Everything you would possibly need in the kitchen is there. The rooms are big, beds are comfortable. Well maintained and clean upon arrival. Thanks for sharing your home, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Birthday Weekend

  • 5 of 5

This house was in a great location and perfect accommodations. Frances was very helpful and responsive for booking. The house is within ten minutes of multiple trailheads and was a 20 minute drive to Brevard. It's great for a weekend of mountain biking and hiking and we used the fire pit as well. Our dog loved the porch as did we.
