About Judson and Hilda Rives

We are a retired couple with a long work history in law enforcement, education and health care. We have enjoyed vacations in the mountains of western North Carolina for many years and often thought it would be a great place to retire. After 2 years of looking for just the right place that we both could be satisfied with, our Realtor helped us discover Mountain Ridge Cottage on Turkey Creek. Now we enjoy an active life in Louisiana and can also retreat to a slower pace and cooler place in the mountains. It has been a real reprieve for us. The glory of the Lord abounds in these mountains and is time well spent. We hope to share our mountain home with others who desire to slow down and reconnect with what is important.

Judson and Hilda Rives purchased this house in 2013

Why Judson and Hilda Rives chose Smoky Mountains

Hendersonville and Brevard are both small towns that offer a quality of life we find appealing. The people are friendly and there is a wide variety of places to explore and experience. Our desire was to own a mountain retreat we could enjoy with our children and grandchildren. We felt at home from the moment we drove up to the property on Turkey Creek Drive. The stunning mountain view from the deck was the real draw. The Turkey Creek Drive community is a safe place that offers an opportunity for both of us to enjoy and pursue our interest. Our home is private yet not secluded as we can be at the grocery store in 5 minutes or the Asheville Airport in 20 minutes.

What makes this house unique

Mountain Ridge Cottage offers an opportunity for visitors to enjoy the quiet , simple peace of country living yet with all the amenities of home. It is our intent to offer families and friends a place to gather and enjoy each other at an affordable price so that they may return. We hope that each person who stays at Mountain Ridge Cottage feels renewed and re-energized when they leave. The Cottage offers a cheerful, warm, feeling from the moment you drive up. The cottage has been updated with new appliances, beautiful hardwood and porcelain flooring throughout, Sony flat screen TV, and access to a complete laundry room downstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped for short or long term stays. Cooking in or eating out will be your preference. The beds are comfortable and the king size bed has a Tempurpedic mattress....oh so restful. The cottage is in a safe area and is apart from traffic and noise. The house and grounds are clean and well-kept as a cleaning service is used after each guest departs. Outdoor living space is available facing the east in the morning and the west in the afternoon. It is the best mountain view you will find in a vacation rental this affordable. The cottage is conveniently located to those things that attract the most sight-seeing and outdoor adventure offered in western North Carolina. A short drive will take you to shopping, dining, music festivals, theater, fine arts, local crafts, national and state parks, abundant waterfalls, scenic drives and so much more open for your exploration. The drive up, off of Hwy 64 West is winding and beautiful so take it slow. Turkey Creek Drive is a short, gravel, winding, one way road. The challenging drive is worth the effort to experience the beautiful mountain view. You can't look down and out unless you make the trip up! Well worth it.

Renew your Spirit

  • 5 of 5

I have visited this property several times and it continues to draw me back. Home has everything you need and then some. The view is most spectacular upon waking for a new morning and for settling in to watch the awesome sunsets. The sounds of the birds chirping and the roosters crowing let you know your in a peaceful place. Spending time on the back porch looking down into the valley below and at the breathtaking mountains in the distance, gives you the feel of being on top of the world. Never far to have to travel to get to restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. Friendliest people you meet every where you go. Nothing better than to sightsee all day and return to Mountain Ridge to kick off your shoes, sit back and relax in a rocking chair and enjoy a great glass of wine. Spectacular place for a romantic weekend or a great time to spend a week with family. Once you visit, you'll never want to leave. Great place to sit in the peace and quiet and take it all in!!!! I guarantee that it will become a yearly vacation destination for all who visit. 👍🏼😊Owners are o

A wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great stay. The house is well stocked with everything we needed and the view is outstanding. When I enquired about the home Hilda was very accommodating regarding concerns I have with chemical sensitivity issues. I would definitely stay again.

Beautiful home with gorgeous views! Perfect for two families!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect spot for us to spend a week in the NC mountains. The house is furnished with everything you need and then some! We spent most days out and then came back to relax and cook dinner. One night we barbecued and sat around the fire pit, then one night we stayed inside and played board games. There's so much to do in the area but also the home is so awesome we didn't want to stay gone too long! With two beds upstairs and a bed and a futon downstairs, this was perfect for two families and large enough for everyone to have their own space.

Feels like home...With a spectacular view!

  • 5 of 5

Driving up to the home was an adventure, but we knew that had to mean the view would be worth it! We were not dissapointed! The view from the kitchen, living room, and back porch was awe-inspiring! Thankfully the weather cooperated and we were able to see so many spectacular mountains in the distance. The accommodations felt like home. Our family of four, with two small children, only used the upstairs except for washing a load of clothes. The beds were comfy and so was the living room furniture, where we spent a couple of evenings watching shows on Netflix. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals, and the grocery store was just a quick 5 mins down the mountain. Don't follow your GPS; rely on the directions that the owners send you. We'll definitely be back for another wonderfully relaxing stay.

A stay for 6! 11-20/11-26-2016

  • 5 of 5

This home, words do no justice! We stayed for a week for our thanksgiving and sure didnt want to leave. As soon as u walk in u get such a breath taking view. The house is filled with everything you need. We had no trouble with our stay. Everyone had a bedroom (3) that was equipped with all your bedding and all of your toiletries also there was the downstairs that had your bedroom equipped with a full bathroom and a game room which my little brother had a field day in there he wouldn't come out . The upstairs has your kitchen a half bath to full bath and two bedrooms with a peaceful living room overlookin your view. We spent time at dupont national state forest and pisgah national state park were in both of these forest we went waterfall hunting, also we drove up to Cherokee for the day to visit. My dad he is the type that loves to drive around and sight see he loved this house so much that I think that this is the most we have ever stayed close to hour rental he did not want to leave all he wanted to do was relax. There was a couple mornings we woke up to four deer in the yard and a couple of white squirrels. Every morning was a beautiul scenery we would wake up to and every morning was different either the fog would be settled and over looking tons of mountains or we would be sitting over the fog overlooking the mountain peaks. I could go on and on about this house but one thing I do know we fill this house with lots of laughter and love while we were there. Mrs Hilda and her husband are also two people that are children of God,I have never met them in person but I can sure tell by talking to mrs.hilda that God shines through them. They are super sweet people that you would want to meet. Thank you again mrs Hilda for opening up your home to us so we can create memories of our own in your sweet little cottage! We hope we will be able to stay with u again soon. Stay blessed!
