Very cozy & comfy. Our host made us feel Most welcome with many holiday touched.
The kitchen was wonderfully equipped, lacking for nothing. The entrance through the garage needs improvement but that is a minor complaint. Well worth the cost !

Great location and great host!
Great private lower level with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, with full kitchen and living room. Backyard is large with space to sit and lounge. Stacy lives upstairs and is an extremely attentive host that you can text and speak with at any time - she answered all of our questions and provided us with a lot of information! Would highly recommend this rental to others and would stay here again on my next visit!!

The unit is spacious and in a very convenient location. Walk to the light rail station, walk to the grocery store, or easy on and off the freeway. Stacey was quick to respond to questions, and respectful of guests' privacy. Plenty of paths to walk around the pleasant Kenton neighborhood.

Exactly as advertised-spacious, clean and with a Washer and Dryer!
Stacey was a great host, welcoming and friendly. She was available to us for questions or helpful advice and otherwise we came and went as we needed to. The apartment was spacious and nicely furnished just as pictured. The full sized washer and dryer was convenient - we did so many loads of laundry as my son was moving into the dorms and buying everything needed there in Portland! Great location.

This vacation rental property was exactly as it was presented in the ad. Cute and retro and comfortable and convenient. You could hardly tell you are in a basement - the outside world is hardly perceived. The beds are comfy. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you could possibly need to prepare meals. The bathroom is modern and easy to use. I loved the shower - roomy with plenty of hot water. We were visiting local family and the LUX Lava Lounge became a convenient gathering and hang-out place. The back yard is lush and green and a quiet respite from the hubbub just outside the walls. Outdoor games like corn-hole are provided for lots of fun. We found the location convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. Restaurants are just a quick walk or drive. The airport is a quick and easy drive. I would definitely stay again.
My classmate and I stayed for a few months for school and it was perfect. Short distance from things to do and restaurants; Stacy is super kind and welcoming; the apartment had everything we needed for cooking and laundry! Would definitely stay again!! (And her kitties were wonderful housemates :) )
My husband and his coworker were traveling from Nevada to Oregon for work and needed a place to stay for 2 months. Stacey was very accommodating and even asked what their beverages of choice were for a welcome drink! The place was clean and exactly what they needed to come home to after a long day of work! There’s even a pool table that the guys enjoyed! Kitchen was equipped with every thing they needed to prepare meals! And Stacey even brought them chili and a pumpkin pie one night! Thank you Stacey for treating them so well!
We enjoyed staying at this property and if we had to do it all over again I would definitely choose to stay here again. It was great having a full kitchen stocked with all the utensils and dishes, pots and pans, knives and so on. Also, a private laundry room with really nice and large washer and dryer. The shower is large and roomy as advertised, and the place was clean upon our arrival. This place is a finished basement with you own entrance and parking for two cars. WiFi works great. Living room is good size with a large couch and gas fireplace. Overall a fun place to stay.
The property owner lives upstairs and is very nice, accommodating and communicates well. There are plenty of things to do within walking distance (groceries, restaurants, post office, parks, bars, record store, ect.) and only about 7 miles from downtown Portland and a couple miles from Vancouver.
As for our stay (myself, wife, mother and her dog), we needed a place to stay in the Portland area for a month after my Mother received a kidney transplant at OHSU. This place was only about 7 miles from the hospital and took 20-30 minutes with traffic. I was also a very easy commute/route to and from the hospital. None of us were familiar with the Portland area or the Kenton neighborhood and I booked this place not knowing what to expect, however this place made it convenient and fun. Very happy!
First time Portland visitors. The Lux Lava Lounge was the perfect place to stay for us. Great location, easy to navigate the neighborhood. Kenton is a great place and we met some really wonderful people. The apartment was spotless. No issues with anything, the private entrance was perfect and the amenities were great. Our host, Stacey was awesome! she really made us feel at home. When we go back - this is the place we'll stay and we recommend this to everyone looking for a comfortable, clean and affordable place to stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Lava Lounge Rental. Stacy was very friendly and helpful. We played pool, darts and even did a puzzle. It was great being within easy walking distance to multiple eating places. We would totally recommend this rental.
Stacy was an excellent host, made sure we had everything we needed. Her place was clean, well appointed and comfortable, We were traveling for work and this worked perfectly for us.
Stacy was so kind, generous, and accommodating. We stay at quite a few VRBO/AirBnB’s and the biggest issue we run into is a lack of the little things... the LUX Lava Lounge has it all, and more. Great kitchen, comfortable beds/bedrooms w/ ample closet space and drawers, accessible private entrance, and an awesome secluded outdoor area with plenty of space to relax, BBQ, and play games. To top it off the location is really picking up in terms of walkability to food and drink options - Posie’s and Mayfly were two of our favorites! Fred Meyer and the MAX public transit are also just a quick walk away! Don’t pass this one up if your looking for a place in the Portland area!

Well decorated and supplied.
Enjoyed our stay at the Lava Lounge with my family. Stacy has beautifully decorated and supplied her property with everything you need from a home. It was comfortable and cooled by AC during the heat waves of Portland. Close to transportation but still would recommend a car to explore the surrounding area.

A perfect fit--new, clean, great location, beautiful yard & wonderful host!
You will love staying here with Stacy! My husband, two kids and I stayed here for 7 nights during the heatwave in July. Stacy is such a welcoming, available host. The property is located 1 block from the Max light rail train. You can come here straight from the airport, if flying in. If driving, there is ample off street parking-you never need to worry about finding a parking space. Her home itself is lovely: the space is sparkling clean and everything is brand new. There are very few windows because this is a basement. I thought it may feel claustrophobic and that it would be musty, but Lux lava lounge is the opposite. The air was very fresh and due to being underground, always a pleasant temperature. There are no windows to sit and look out of, but we were busy all day, so that did not matter to us. Plus, her backyard is available--beautiful, private and quiet. One day hit the upper 90's, so Stacy put the A/C on, which was a nice treat-but not necessary. The kitchen is very well-appointed, if you enjoy cooking you will have everything you'll need. We primarily just cooked breakfast and ate out at one of the many delicious restaurants in Portland. This particular section/neighborhood of Portland is called Kenton. The downtown of the Kenton is 2-3 blocks away--a very short walk to excellent restaurants and coffee shops. Staying at Stacy's property is a perfect respite from the busy big city. Two things to be aware of: One, there were always 4-6 homeless people between her house and the Max rail. They caused no problems that we saw, but if you are looking for an upscale area this may not be for you. Kenton is a more up-and-coming neighborhood. Also, due to being in the basement, you can hear every step (and at times Stacy's conversations!) from above. If you are a light sleeper, or like to sleep in, this is something to think about. Her hours matched ours fairly well, so it was rarely an issue. Having a fan on (located in a closet) for noise-masking & earplugs was a good solution for us--3/4 of us are VERY light sleepers. That said, we LOVED staying at the Lux Lounge! It was a cozy place to come home to each day. My daughter may be attending college in Portland, and if she does, this would be first on our list as a place to stay for visits!!

Luxe lava lounge living was luxurious
We enjoyed our stay in the "lounge" with our granddaughters.....my husband and I enjoyed the pool table and did the Crater Lake puzzle. It was a convenient location for our day trips. The accommodations and layout worked well for all 4 of us.

Portland at its best!
Stacy is a warm, welcoming, and gracious host. She has remembered every detail so her guests can enjoy most of the comforts of home. You’ll have a private entrance, access to her backyard and BBQ, a full kitchen, and spacious quarters. She has provided local food and service recommendations. Great location: most places we went were 15" away, and we travelled in every direction. Would definitely come again. Very happy with both the accomodations and destination.

SUBTERRANEAN HIDE AWAY IN A VERY COOL NEIGHBORHOOD
I stayed for 6 weeks at the Lava Lounge and was very pleased with every aspect of the property. The apartment is well appointed and the owner Stacy was very welcoming and helpful during my stay. The apartment is downstairs and has a private entrance which passes through the phenomenal backyard, which is equipped with both gas & charcoal bbq grills, propane fire pit, and even a horseshoe pit. The apartment has it's own laundry with a high end washer/dryer. Bedrooms were very clean and extremely comfortable. Gas fireplace created some nice ambience while shooting pool and sucking down a few brews. The apartment is in the Kenton area, which has some good eateries and cool dive bars, including the "World Famous Kenton Club" (google it). One very important feature for me was the parking availability, which is rare at most VRBO's in Portland. I had a truck and a motorcycle during my stay and was able to park both of them safely up the driveway and even parked my bike behind a secured gate. I have been a "frequent flyer" with VRBO for a long time, staying in beach houses, mountain cabins, and city apartments. I can say without any reservations whatsoever that my stay at the Lava Lounge was one of the more enjoyable and memorable ones. Should the opportunity arise for me to visit Portland again, there is no doubt I will be contacting Stacy to check on availability. If you are thinking about staying here, BOOK IT NOW! I can guarantee you will have no regrets...

Hidden gem in north Portland
We had the opportunity to stay at the LUX Lava Lounge for about 10 days in September, 2017. The space is exactly as depicted - clean, spacious, retro-modern, and well appointed. There is clearly pride of ownership reflected here. We arrived early evening and easily accessed the property. Food and beverage were only a couple of blocks away by foot. We enjoyed being near the small Kenton commercial center which offers a variety of alternatives for food, coffee and evening relaxation. And all the amenities of Portland were easily accessible with nearby freeway access to I-5 and the light rail system.
The owner, Stacy, was available, responsive and accommodating. The few needs we had during our stay were resolved quickly; for example, on one occasion when the coffee pot failed, she brought her pot down from upstairs for us to use that morning and had a new one by early afternoon. We appreciated her attention to the details!
So, good location, lovely property, great host. All 5 star. I will note that the property is the basement of a home, so if you need a sunny, bright place to greet your day this probably isn't for you. But for rest, restoration and comfort, the LUX is top notch!

Really Cool Place
First off, the location is awesome. Walking distance to food, bars, and shops in the very cool neighborhood of Kenton. The space itself was also awesome. Totally updated but with a cool, retro vibe. Plenty of space. Everything you could need to be comfortable. The owner is really nice and can fill you in on all the good places to eat and fun things to do. We really enjoyed our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Stacy Looney
Hello! I am Stacy, the owner of the Hillside Hideaway and Lava Lounge. As a long term host I am excited to now offer my entire home for your comfort and enjoyment! I have met many lovely people by hosting my lower unit and upper unit as separate spaces but now I would like to offer them as one and look forward to expanding my hosting experience in this way.
Why they chose this property
I purchased this property because it's something I have longed for many years. I absolutely LOVE Mid-century homes and this one had just the right bones! I was so excited to see the opportunity to remodel the lower level that it actually silenced me to take in all the exciting ideas I had about designing it for my future guests!!
What makes this property unique
The location of this property speaks volumes! Located just steps from downtown Kenton & the MAX Station, you will feel the simplicity of convenience all around you! My place offers garage parking and off street parking as well which is very hard to find in neighborhoods these days. The airport is a direct and easy 15 min. drive and the I5 is just a couple blocks away. There are plenty of shopping options within a less than a mile, including New Seasons Market, Fred Meyer, Target, Home Goods, Pier One, Petco and many many more. In town you will find local shops like Fang & Feather Pet Store, Fino, Kenton Station, Cultured Cavemen, Swift & Union, Wells Fargo Bank, Disjecta Art Gallery, Posies Coffee and Mantel for unique crafts and gifts.
