Our house was originally built in 1940"s, My Contractor Husband and I remodeled the entire house . We updated throughout, building a large Chef's Kitchen with all the appliance's you need to put on a wonderful dinner party. (kitchen photos as seen in Dwell Magazine) Viking Range, KitchenAid 2 double convection/ovens with warming drawer.

We used slate flooring throughout the house to compliment the original hard wood floors.

Bathroom #1 materials used: white subway tile, recycled glass tile accents, tub/ shower combination, with glass doors and a pedestal sink.

Bathroom #2 materials used: Wood plank porcelain floor, porcelain tile in shower, Stand alone Vanity. The bathroom is a through back to the Art Deco look.

Our Bedrooms are comfortable and decorated with premium bedding, Queen size Sterns & Foster Luxury Hybrid bed and everything you need for a sound sleep.

Both bedrooms open to your private patio. Enjoy each morning waking up with a fresh cup of coffee or tea while sitting in a peaceful surrounding. Our patio is very private, surrounded by bamboo.

Refresh yourself listening to backyard birds, the recycling water fountain and just relax.

Our open concept floor plan( kitchen to living room space) allows the whole family to interact with each other and it all opens up to the outside patio thru sliding glass doors.

Our goal for quests, is to help them enjoy our house and have a fun and comfortable stay.

About Mary Jo

My husband Don is a General Contractor and I work in the business and the office manager.

We met in 1995.

I (Mary Jo)was born at Camp Pendleton and I grew up in Vista, CA. After graduating high school I moved to Kauai, Hawaii to surf and managing health food stores. I moved back from Hawaii and left again for Telluride Colorado working as a seamstress and bookkeeper. Finally move back to California in 1995. Where I met Don. Don grew up in Bell California, Vista/San Marcos and then move to Parker Arizona to help his mother with her businesses and he graduated from High School there. On a trip thru the West Don came upon Telluride Colorado (coincidence) In 1972 and lived there. While in Telluride he and friends started the Telluride Blue Grass Festival which still goes on today. Don moved back to North County. Don and I love to travel discovering different places and meeting new friends.

We spent a month at Mary Jo's and it was a great experience. The house is beautiful! We loved the spacious patio with lots of seating, a grill, and an outdoor fire pit. The cozy bedrooms have doors that also open to a deck. The kitchen has a huge Viking stove and the cabinets are stocked with every cooking tool you could need. The house is within walking distance to little markets, good restaurants, and, best of all, the beach!!!! Parking is always available right outside the house and it's an easy drive to most tourist sites. If you don't feel like driving into San Diego, there is a Coaster train station minutes away for a scenic ride into the city. Mary Jo and Don are excellent hosts! They are fun, helpful, and welcoming. You won't go wrong with Oceanside or this property.

Notes:
Private area with an outside natural gas fire ring. Comfortable lounge chairs, patio set around fire ring Vintage patio table and 4 chairs 2 sections to the back yard so you could have the kids having dinner on one side (totally open to either side, no fence) with its out Tiled round table bench set. The adults could eat on the vintage oudoor dinning room set and everyone can have fun around the firepit.

Mary Jo and her husband did a wonderful job of remodeling this bungalow. The place is nicely appointed, and the yard terrific and private. The antiques are fun to look at in their home. Close to the beach and restaurants, we had a wonderful visit to Oceanside.

Wonderfully designed and decorated, a quiet and peaceful retreat

We came to Oceanside for a family funeral and knew we would need someplace quiet to recharge our batteries between the memorial and other family events. This home was perfect -- amazing kitchen, comfortable pockets throughout the house to retreat and read. The outdoor patio space was especially wonderful - we were comfortable on a January evening sitting around the gas fire pit. We would absolutely rent this home again.

Beautiful home!

Home was perfect for our family of 4 with two children. There is now an extra bathroom which made the house even more accommodating! Mary Jo was a perfect host and attended to all of our needs. We would definitely stay again - beach was walking distance!

Our house was originally built in 1942, and in a neighborhood know as the Potter Homes of Oceanside. They were built for our soldiers coming back from World War II.

My husband and I bought the house about 13 years ago. We wanted to keep the charm of the old house, but enlarge the living space. My husband is a General Contractor and took care restoring the home while adding on a large living area inside and out. Our kitchen has been in Dwell Magazine.Beautiful Moldings, hardwood and slate flooring throughout Walking in you the front door you enter a sitting area and dinning room. Very spacious. There are two bedrooms down the hall both with comfortable queen beds and bed linens. Each room opens to the backyard area. As you enter the kitchen, there are granite counter tops, Oceanside Glass tile back splash, a counter that seats 4, a Viking cook-top, double ovens ( one convection) along with a warming draw, plenty counter space and room to entertain. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you will need to have a great dinner party. (the Kitchen was featured in Dwell Magazine) You walk thru the kitchen and step down into the main living area, with leather sectional, built in entertainment center. The living room opens to the outside yard. Our home is on the cusp of Carlsbad, but technically our house is in Oceanside. Address to google: 1749 Alvarado Street, Oceanside 92054

The backyard is shaded by bamboo with lounging chairs for your relaxation. On the patio is very private, with a BBQ (briquets or propane) and a glass dinning table that seats 6. After dinner enjoy a night sitting around the fire pit enjoying your favorite beverage.

We are located off the Coast Highway in South Oceanside area. , plenty of restaurants and brew pubs within walking distance not to mention the beach access is just a few blocks down the street .

Close to: Lego Land, the Flower Fields, the Wild Animal Park, the Oceanside Surf Museum among others.

Restaurants and entertainment in walking distance: Beach Break, Urge, The Privateer, The Pour House (live music and bar), Oceanside Surf Bowl (Bowling Alley), along with lots of antique stores and shopping. (yoga studio, acupuncture/ message studio and lots of Coffee shops and eateries.
