About the property

Trout Fishing Lodge - Couples' Hide-Away - Nature Lovers' Dream

Whether you are here for the famed Toccoa River trout fishing, hiking and sight-seeing in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, or a romantic weekend getaway, River Valley Retreat is your dream vacation spot. Located on the banks of the Toccoa River, across from the Toccoa Heights area, River Valley Retreat is only 15 minutes from Downtown Blue Ridge, 20 minutes from Aska Adventure Area and 30 minutes from the new Harrah’s Cherokee Casino.

A true retreat, this newly renovated (2015), rustic cabin sits upon a scenic hillside with beautiful views of the neighboring mountains and the Toccoa River. The magnificent mountain pine log covered deck is perfect for a relaxing evening in a rocking chair, or in the hot tub taking in the majestic scenery of the North Georgia mountains. The three acre property also includes a private dock with direct access to the river and a one acre riverside meadow, perfect for picnicking. It also includes a shared fire pit for relaxing and roasting marshmallows in the evening.

Upon entering the cabin, you are greeted by a western motif entryway and dining area with a pass-through to the kitchen. The artwork features a passion for an equestrian lifestyle in the mountains, in calming blues and greens, accented by unique mountain décor. The main living area features a plush couch, (converts to a queen bed), a big comfy lounge chair, TV with cable, including the sports channels, and a DVD player. For cooler seasons, there’s a real wood burning stove, perfect for curling up to for a romantic evening, or just exchanging fishing stories from your day on the river. The adjacent kitchen features a granite countertop, beautiful natural hickory cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher. A full sized laundry room provides all of the convenience and comforts of home. The landscaped back yard comes complete with a gas grill and picnic table.

The main bath boasts a one of a kind barn board tub and shower. Rustic cabinets, granite countertop, pewter finish faucets, and rough sawn wood trim finish off this equestrian country bathroom. The Master bedroom features a luxurious antique brass King bed with an extra layer of memory foam for a great night's sleep. The suite includes a large closet and an additional half bath.

The lower Toccoa River has earned a reputation among anglers as one of the best trout rivers in north Georgia...It's long, deep pools separated by rocky shoals make the flow perfect for both trout fishing and floating. Due to its relatively large size, it is a favored water for fly-fishing enthusiasts, and in 2015 it was designated by the DNR as a year round trout river. It is stocked weekly until July 4th, and twice monthly thereafter. You’ll be pulling out mostly rainbow trout, but there are also large numbers of brown trout and a small population of brook trout.

Area activities include fishing, tubing, kayaking, trail rides, Harrah’s Valley River Casino, hiking, bird watching, fall leaf viewing, fine dining, Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, and zip lining. All within approximately 30 minutes or less.

Wednesdays are always $50 OFF with a mid-week, 3 night or longer booking! (Monday - Thursday, excludes Holidays.) Contact cabin owner for details. YOU MUST MENTION THIS PROMOTION when booking, as VRBO will not apply this discount automatically.

Lastly, we are a NO PETS property!! No exceptions!! We pride ourselves on delivering a very clean and allergy free home to all of our guests!

Why Ellen and Dan Smith chose Mineral Bluff

We recently purchased this property and completely renovated it, with the vacation renter market in mind. The log front porch with cedar siding was created to add significant curb appeal from the road and an amazing place to spend the majority of your vacation. We could sit out there for hours, sipping some wine, eating some cheese and crackers, and lounging in the hot tub.

This property has the perfect mix of amenities and location! The Toccoa River is amazing - so clean and refreshing when it's hot out! The fishing is incredible and we are located at a part in the river where it is wide, with a few deep pockets for fish, and privately owned, so it is not fished as heavily as other sections of the river. On hot day, sitting on the dock, dipping our toes in the water or maybe venturing out on a tubing ride - it's heavenly!

What makes this cabin unique

It's rare to find a property this large - 3 acres - and this beautiful - within minutes of all kinds of mountain attractions. Blue Ridge is 15 minutes away and has some of the best restaurants and dining options you'll find any where, including a much larger city. We love Harvest on Main, Christie Lee's, and Black Sheep for better fare, but the little advertised Masseria (owned by same restaurateur as Harvest), is a gem for a fraction of the price. Also love La Pizzeria and Cucina Rustica in Morganton. Take time out for yourself and walk the amazing shops on W. Main Street. You'll find unique gifts for any occasion and it's easy to stock up for the Holiday Season, even when it's July.

For a quick grocery run, Copper Hill/ McCaysville has a great little IGA about 4 miles away. We also love Rolling Thunder tubing company and browsing some of the shops can also be a nice past time.

Murphy, NC is located about 30 minutes away, including the new Harrah's Valley River Casino. Great for a rainy day past time.

The Internet isn't reliably available in this are yet, Sorry no, WiFi, however, guests are welcome to bring hot spots such as a MiFi or cell phones with a hot spot, which work reasonable well. AT&T and Verizon have the best coverage in this part of the N. Georgia mountains. While our cleaning rates are a few dollars more than some other cabins, this is because we insist that the cleaning crew empty and sanitize the Hot Tub in between guests. We want everyone to have a great vacation!

outstanding place

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is nicely furnished. the bed was comfortable. The kitchen is exceptionally well stocked with all you need for your stay. It is quite and while not far from other cabins you feel like no one is near you. the hot tub is excellent at night however it was hard to see the moon and stars for the tree cover.I am sure in the fall and winter it is different. But that is not a bad consequence of being in a cabin that the woods wrap around. The only draw back was the number of steps to carry things up. If you want to relax and have some privacy this is the place to rent. If you want to fish or kayak this is a superb place. Mineral Bluff has a couple of good places to eat. Blue Ridge is a 15 minute or more drive but you can find whatever you want there. The ingles and Wallmart are good places to stock up at before getting to the cabin. No wi-fi which was a plus for relaxing.

Beautiful home 🏡 in a beautiful spot!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this place! Beautifully decorated and comfortably equipped. We enjoyed the gas grill and fire pit, too. The master bed was very comfortable. The pullout couch wa a little slanted, so could have been more comfy, but we had younger adults sleeping there, so it worked out. I would definitely recommend this place!

We stayed for a week and this was by far the best cabin we have every stayed in when traveling to Blue Ridge. The porch had an amazing view of the mountains and the river, we even saw deer four mornings in front of the cabin. We never turned on the TV once and it was nice not to have service all the time on your phone, I am attached to my phone but it was nice just to unwind and stay out of touch. Will defiantly be back!

Down Time

  • 4 of 5

I loved the cabin and how private it was. It is nicely decorated and furnished. However, was a little disappointed that the information online was a little misleading as it appeared that the cabin was right on the river and not across the street.

Overall a nice place and would return for another visit.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! For clarification to future guests - The property has 150 feet of river frontage, with the cabin tucked up into the woods for maximum privacy, overlooking the river and small valley, All the property from the cabin to the river, including the access lane , fenced in field and private dock, comes with the cabin. We have tried to be very detailed in our description and photos of the property, to avoid such misunderstandings, so we apologize to this guest if our description has been misleading.

Quiet, peaceful getaway on the river

  • 4 of 5

The River Retreat is a peaceful place for a respite from the busy world. The rocking chairs and table on the front porch were a nice touch. It is updated with unique cabin decor and is spotless. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the spacious bathroom. We also noted the Pottery Barn dishware (loved the plates with fish design) and everything we needed to cook in the kitchen or on the grill outback. The cabin has all the amenities. Who needs wifi? The only drawback was the slope for parking, 17 front stairs and the distance to the river. This is not the place for those not in good shape.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review! Also want to let future guests know that there is an alternate staircase that leads to the back door which is not steep. Longer, lower steps, so they are easier to walk up or down, especially when dragging in your luggage.
