About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-5)

This cabin is a two-story, authentic red cedar log cabin nestled in a cozy cove in a private community in the Smoky Mountains. It is located on one and one-half acres five miles from downtown Murphy. Easy access year round. It features hardwood floors, two bedrooms (one loft), and a spacious great room with high-vaulted ceiling, kitchen, dining, and bath.

Relax to the sounds of the running spring-fed stream and waterfall. The split-level redwood deck overlooks the trout pond. Also within a very short walking distance to the Nottely River and another community lake for picnicing, swimming, and fishing. There is also a large lot across the street from the cabin that has direct, personal access to the Nottley River with a private deck, and stairs down to the Nottley River.

We really enjoyed our stay.

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at "The Bear Necessity". The cabin was immaculately clean, the towels were very nice, and the shower had amazing water pressure! The floors were a bit creaky, but that's to be expected in a log cabin. I was looking forward to fishing in the pond next to the cabin but it's more of a bog garden than fishing pond. I did enjoy listening to the frogs. We would certainly stay here again.

nice stay

  • 3 of 5

We had a very nice stay at your cabin. The pond was a disappointment. It was almost grown up. Scared to walk around it, because it looked snaky. Also, disappointed that we had to take our own trash away. Did not know that until we got there. We didn't have a truck, so had to put it in the trunk of the car...and of course, it smelled! Did not get an access card to the convenient center, so therefore,we went the day before to check and see if we could dump our garbage. The people were very nice and allowed us to bring it our last day. Also, the yard was not mowed until we had been there 3 or 4 days. The grass was high and didn't feel safe for the dogs to walk around the yard.

The cabin was very, very clean and comfortable! 'We did feel at home and safe while inside the cabin.

Relaxing!

  • 4 of 5

We overall really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin is in a great location, decorated very cute, love the catch and release pond and the peaceful walks we were able to take. Cabin had everything we needed and I appreciated the coffee filters! We had some issues with wasps that are surrounding the house and the owners were quick to come out to try to fix the problem. Only suggestion I would have, would be to house cleaning. Rug and couch needs to be vacuumed, cobwebs need to be cleaned up and the upstairs bedding hadn't been changed and was covered in hair. But not a big issue at all as there was extra bedding in the dresser so I changed it! We would rent here again!
