Ask a questionAbout Owner, Peter Laine
Early exposure to the Blue Ridge Mountains and a love of cycling initially drew me to Asheville. The artistic diversity of the community reawakened my interest in architecture and fed a desire to contribute to Asheville's thriving downtown.
Why Owner, Peter Laine chose Downtown Asheville
Built in 1924, 59 Broadway came on the market in 2013 and was unusual in that it had only served as warehouse space with consequently very little infrastructure, thus providing a clean canvas for my modernist vision. Having sat empty for a decade, it was in remarkably great shape. But most importantly, it had SOUL. After a year of planning, a project incorporating the interplay of natural, urban, and personal environments with attention to space, lighting, quality, and simplicity was begun. Twelve-foot ceilings, original hardwood flooring, simple layout, and uncluttered space help imbue the feeling of warmth and calm that initially drew me in. Unlike any other historic building downtown, it’s newly engineered windows all along the northern wall provide an abundance of natural light further enhancing the unique ambiance.
What makes this Apartment unique
My wife Constance and I, along with the seasoned guidance of an interior designer, picked furnishings that we would want in our own home, including art and ceramics throughout made by local artists who are also our friends. We especially love the bird’s eye view of the city’s comings and goings while perched on the full length window seats. Mesmerizing. We hope you agree that the integrated sound system rocks and that the splurge mattresses feel heavenly after a day of exploring all that this vibrant city and surroundings has to offer.
