About this property

« Les Maisons d’Antan » (i.e. the houses of days gone) date to the 18th century. They were built in traditional stones and slates of the region and a regional interior decorator totally renovated and refurbished them. She enhanced the feeling of intimacy and privacy that emanates from the place and gave a new touch to the different rooms though respecting the regional spirit that is present in a monumental fireplace for instance. At the same time, a regional renowned landscape gardener designed the gardens. The property is near Sarlat, a marvellous historic medieval town, and near the capital of prehistory, les Eyzies de Tayac, which is listed by Unesco World Heritage of Humanity. Here was born the science of prehistory, thanks to excavations that started in 1863 and last until today. The cave paintings of Lascaux, a unique presentation of prehistoric art, displays Cro Magnon's life as hunter and artist, as warrior and painter. If you only book the Bergerie, any case you will always be the alone lodgers at the property.

Stunning property in beautiful serene surroundings - perfection. Missing it already!

As soon as I saw the images of the property I was sold - it really is as lovely as it looks. We hadn’t been abroad since 2019 so wanted it to be really special and the Dordogne.is our most magical of places This beautiful, authentically restored property with every attention to detail fit the bill perfectly. We live in a historic building in rural Cornwall in a tiny quiet hamlet and this home is even more peaceful than ours yet close enough to all that the Dordogne has to offer and with the most peaceful walks for miles amongst the walnut groves right outside your front door. We spent a lot of time in nearby Montignac which is very pretty and Sarlat (equally close) - a stunning larger town, full of atmospheric restaurants, cobbled streets and architectural wonders and of course its famous markets. The garden and pool area offer many havens to relax and eat in sun or shade and are totally safe for a mischievous young dog. The pool is a lovely warm temperature and spotlessly clean but don’t miss out on a swim in the Dordogne river (the cleanest in France) that offers breathtaking views and the Vezere river very close by is a real haven for wildlife with shady riverside dog walks. We were blessed with incredible weather and our only complaint was the time went too fast. The owner was very accommodating to my booking error and Florence is charming, a real gem always available if you need her and Patrick the kindest neighbour giving us fresh produce from his garden.

EXCELLENT SEJOUR

Nous avons passé une agréable semaine, le gite est parfait pour le repos et les visites ne manquent pas aux alentours. La propriété est magnifique, très bien agencée, la piscine est à l'abri de tout regard comme le reste. Les terrasses à différents endroits permettent de profiter du soleil à tout moment. Les attentions toutes particulières des propriétaires à notre arrivée donnent une note ++ à ce gite. Nous recommendons vivement.

Lovely country French home!

My family of 5 stayed here June 6-9, 2011. The pictures of the property are very accurate. It was clean, well decorated and very well located near everything you want to see in the Dordogne region. Yet the house itself is on a secluded, rural road and very private (other houses I had seen online we passed on busy roads). As you can tell by the photos, this is a country setting and more rustic versus the many chateaus in the area. Large gated yard with a heated pool (and laundry) is an added bonus. Do bring your navigation system for the area or you will seriously regret it! We bought groceries in Sarlat which is very closeby. They made arrangements for us for a cave tour ahead of time and recommended a restaurant once there. Otherwise we never saw anyone again (or needed to)! There are lots of books /maps in the closet. If your children are very young, note that the 2 bedrooms (we only needed the one building) are on opposite sides of the house from each other (the master is up a small winding stair and the other bedroom is down a few steps from the first floor). Very quiet except for the wild turkey! :) Overall, I highly recommend!
