During hot summer days, there is air conditioning in the bedroom/living room. During the crisp spring and autumn days, the bedroom/living room and the kitchen are both individually heated with thermostatically controlled electric radiators.

The scenic approach to the Boat House Loft is by a private winding dirt road. At the very end of the road is the Boat House and it's adorable, very private Cape Cod 'tree house' loft, perched on the second floor under mature pine trees.

Included with the Boat House Loft is a large outdoor space - your own private yard adjacent to the Loft. Great for relaxing and grilling at the water's edge. The location is ideal for the kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding or sailing enthusiast have direct access to a private launch area from your private yard.

With the kayaks or canoe, you can circumnavigate Swan Pond (and explore the quiet coves) or paddle down Swan Pond River to the ocean and South Village Beach (don't forget a beach picnic basket). Complimentary lessons on request. No expense and inconvenience of renting boats..... kayak everyday if you're so inclined and get close to the migrating waterfowl and Swans as they swim by.

With an open floor plan, the Loft is a wonderful blend of the comfortable Cape Cod country-rustic style, boasting 3 airy rooms: the fully applianced kitchen, the main living and sleeping accommodations and the sun filled eat-in Sun Veranda which overlooks the water (feels like you're on a ship's bridge!) All have water views.

Private bathroom, of course, but please determine prior to booking if the neo-angle shower stall (30"x30") is suitable for your needs.

The kayaking and boating is some of the best on Cape Cod - two miles downstream is Nantucket Sound, with a Town of Dennis public beach at the mouth of the river. You can canoe to the beach! It is warm water south-side beach kissed by the Gulf Stream.

One of the Cape Cod Rail Trail entrance points is only a ten minute bike ride away. From there, you can bike to Chatham and beyond. The rail trail is being extended for the summer season!

~IMPORTANT ASTHMA ADVISORY - The Boat House Loft is directly on the water and, like all waterfront properties, is subject to a beautiful morning fog which burns away with the sun. The Loft is not suitable for those with asthma or other humidity or moisture related respiratory allergies or sensitivities.

~PETS - We are regretfully unable to accommodate potentially aggressive breeds like pit bulls or pit bull mixtures or any pet that has shown past aggression to other animals or people.

~THE DAMAGE DEPOSIT is held in escrow for guests by VRBO/Home Away and is returned in about a week after guest departure by VRBO/HA.

~ VRBO/HomeAway charges a SERVICE FEE on all rentals.

About Laurance Held

A selfie of "KING", a Great Dane/Black Lab mix...a sweet, gentle giant if ever there was one. King and Laurance are your hosts. For your peace of mind, we are also neighbors - delighted to offer assistance 24/7 to help make your stay more enjoyable & memorable. Always happy to answer your questions or make recommendations.

The owner is a BIG animal lover (both dog & cat) and is willing to assist you in choices of destinations that are dog friendly, including popular dog hikes, a gorgeous north side beach in Dennis that not only accommodates your puppy during the summer season (sandy dog heaven!), but also has no daily parking fee. Also, outdoor restaurants, great dog walks, super dog parks (with spoiled pooch drinking fountains) and much more.

We do not charge a Pet Fee! What animal lover would?

Why Laurance Held chose Dennis Port

The Boat House Loft is located at the end of a winding country road. It is quiet and peaceful, yet not too far from the Mid-Cape Highway (exit 9), making it a perfect jumping off point for anywhere on Cape Cod - east or west, north or south.

This "mid-cape" location is almost equally distant from either Provincetown or Woods Hole. A perfect central location. We're only 90 minutes from either the Boston, MA or Providence, RI metro areas. Thirty minutes from the canal - double lane highway all the way.

Major stores, including a Stop & Shop supermarket, are located at the exit 9 intersection (about 2 miles away).

What makes this cottage unique

We love and adore our pets! Feel free to bring your four legged family member along on vacation. Don't leave them home in a kennel - they need a vacation, too! We are pet friendly to well trained dogs and neutered kitty-cats. The quarter-mile walk down the lane and back is perfect for those early morning and evening walks.

Loved The Boat House Loft! Five Stars PLUS!

  • 5 of 5

My first impression was WOW!

The Loft was cozy and spacious, almost like a tree-top doll house. There are three separate rooms - my favorite is the sunny three sided Veranda with 10 windows - which felt like a ship on the water. The kitchen was super well equipped and the sleeping/living area was large, clean and comfortable with two easy chairs, a writing table, a bed and a nice, large flat screen TV. Included were linens, six comfy pillows and luxurious towels. There are magnificent water views from every room.

The location was perfect ....surrounded by water and conservation land, the Loft is at the end of a private dirt road with only a couple of other cottages, but five minutes away from shopping, lots of restaurants, a laundromat and the Mid Cape Highway.

Laurance, the host, was attentive, gracious and helpful. He took extra time to explain every detail on arrival and was always available to recommend a beach or restaurant. He promptly responded to every text if I needed an opinion. His dog, King, is a handsome love bug - a Great Dane who is sweet and friendly - a true gentle giant.

There are Canadian geese, swans and osprey that live on Swan Pond. Although I didn't use them, there are two kayaks and a canoe for guest use, a private side yard with a shiny red gas grill and a table and chairs. I had an awesome time and look forward to returning to the Loft during the summer to use a kayak on the lake or paddle down to the ocean beach on Nantucket Sound.

You can not find a better value or nicer vacation spot on Cape Cod!

The Loft is pretty much as described. Shower needs help, but doable if you are no more than 6' & 200#. I wasn't aware we needed to bring our own linen. This could be a problem as I don't think everyone has king size sheets.

A cozy spot, very quiet, tho' close to beaches, highway, shops etc. Also near some good restaurants. We are seniors with a small dog, the stairs at entrance could be challenging, we had no trouble. Mr Held friendly & helpful, his King a good pup. Would not give this 5***, but it worked for us. We do not kayak or canoe, but if you do it is a great spot!

Very Pleasant lake Front Location.

  • 5 of 5

We spent eight great days here with our little Pomeranian and enjoyed the quiet relaxing and nicely secluded lake front location up a privately wooded dirt road leading to the "Boat House Loft" which is literally just steps away from the waters edge. We especially enjoyed the screened and glassed in porch over looking the lake as we watched the beautiful sunrise's over the water while having our morning breakfast or coffee before setting out on whatever the plan was for the day.

While peacefully off the beaten path there are many fine stores and shops literally just minutes away and also easy access to all major routes to all of the Cape's other towns and locations. Laurance the owner is a very Gracious and extremely helpful and accommodating host and neighbor right next door and is always readily available for any questions or special needs. Perhaps most importantly to us was that he is also genuinely a "Pet Friendly" Animal Lover with his "HUGE" but Gentle Great Dane and Baby "KING" allowing well behaved pets at the location. We felt very comfortable staying there with our "Spoiled little Brat "YO YO" and on a few occasions leaving him safely and securely alone there for short periods while we went out to dinner or shopping where he could not come with us. Also provided are Two Kayaks and a Canoe if you feel adventurous to explore the lake or its islands and even beyond up to the ocean.

Thanks Larance for a great week.

Beautiful Week

  • 5 of 5

A lovely stay in a most idyllic location. Farther out, less crowded but still with all the flavor of the Cape. Delighted we could bring our dog. Took her to Conservation Beach where dogs are allowed. Weather was almost perfect, beaches beautiful. Cafe at the boatyard was outside, OK for our dog. Visit to Hyannis brought back precious childhood memories. Nice evening at the Squire in Chatham, and of course couldn't pass up the box of fudge or the 360 light of the Chatham Lighthouse. Our sunporch was ideal for breakfast with sunrise over glistening lake.

Rustic cottage with a beautiful waterfront view

  • 3 of 5

Pluses: Pretty waterfront location from which I was able to launch the cottage's kayak for a gorgeous paddle down the river and through the marshes. Laurence is a friendly host. On a rainy day, it was nice to have a large screen TV to watch.

Minuses: The cottage is rustic. The shower is very small and won't accommodate tall or heavy people. There's not much kitchen space, so I was glad that I had planned to eat dinners out.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. I really appreciated the kayak that came with the cottage and being waterfront, as well as Laurence's kindness.
