The Roost is a self catered B&B suite in a sunny location close to Ganges. The studio suite has its own entrance to maintain your privacy as well as the privacy of the attached family home. As a self catered suite, we will provide you with a continental style breakfast which you can enjoy at your leisure. The suite is spacious and open with a comfortable queen sized bed and a private bathroom with heated slate floors. There is a small kitchenette suitable for preparing and serving some of the delicious artisanal foods that you discover while exploring the island. The kitchenette is not equipped with a stove but has a mini fridge, microwave, induction hot plate, and toaster oven. There is wifi in the suite.
The main house which is attached to the suite is home to your host family with two older children and various pets. We have a lovely, super smart, and stubborn poodle named Oliver. We also have three pampered and lovely indoor felines, senior Rosie, big grey Stormy, and lovely little Lui. Our property is home to 8 chickens, known collectively as 'The Ladies', and individually as, Big Boy Hen, Stripe Hen, Princess Luke, Little Boy Hen, Pépé Hen, Persephone, Athena, and Circe.
Nights here are quiet and very dark. There are owls roosting in the large trees around the property and you may hear them while you are lying in bed. Early in the morning there may be deer grazing in the orchard, and hummingbirds come to our feeders year round. Eagles call to one another while circling the orchard watching for rabbits. Some years there are so many baby bunnies we could catch them by hand. Starting in the Spring coveys of quail begin to lead their chicks around the property. They always visit the dropped seed around the bird feeder while keeping a wary lookout for Hawks and house cats. The quail can number in the dozens in early Spring, but they dwindle over the summer due to nature's predators. Our cats are inside cats and can only stalk the birds from the windows. Visiting a property on Salt Spring that doesn't use pesticides means that you will see an abundance of bees, butterflies and dragonflies. In the field live garter snakes, amongst the mossy forest paths are newts, and the hedgerows provide shelter for songbirds. We have seen mink, raccoons, and on one memorable occasion a river otter. There are working farms and homesteads nearby, you may hear our neighbours cow, sheep, geese and ducks.
The Roost is located less than five minutes by car to Ganges Village. We are 10 minutes from the ferry terminal at Long Harbour. We are central for you to explore both the north and south ends of Salt Spring.

Large, clean, conveniently located
The space is large, clean, very conveniently located, and the hosts are so kind! Meagan greeted us with her daughter as soon as we pulled up, and they gave us some useful information about the Ganges area. Every day, we were given fresh towels, orange juice, milk, butter, and fruit. Troy even stopped by one afternoon with a couple slices of fresh banana bread - yum! Couldn't ask for more! Thank-you so much for such a great experience on Salt Spring!
Comfortable, quiet, clean, restful
Excellent property in close proximity to Ganges. Would gladly book again for future visits.
Lovely, clean cozy space with special touches and thoughtfulness
We had such a delightful stay we didn't want to leave. Had everything we needed to make some simple meals. Was quiet, peaceful and really close to Ganges. Really appreciated the gluten free breakfast items. We would definitely recommend.
Clean, comfortable and cozy!
Our stay at the Roost was perfect. The owners were lovely, ( even gave us a ride to the ferry!) The suite was tastefully decorated, spacious and very inviting. We had a great sleep on the comfy bed. I have already recommended it to my family and will definitely be back when we return to Salt Spring.
Cozy & romantic getaway for two
Loved our 2-night stay at the Roost! The well-appointed studio suite was even more inviting and spacious than the pictures shown on VRBO. Super comfy bed and comfortable sitting-room area with a nice couch and two armchairs provided ample space for indoor relaxation. We also enjoyed the two lounge chairs outside where we could watch an abundance of different small birds and hummingbirds hovering around the bird feeders. The kitchenette was well stocked and included excellent coffee and a nice selection of teas. The fresh eggs from the hosts own speckled hens inspired us to make an omelet and french toast which went well with the orange juice and fresh fruit provided by our gracious hosts. We had a wonderful stay and thorougly enjoyed the quiet evenings at the Roost after a full day of exploring. A couple of places we would like to recommend on Salt Spring Island: Ruckle Provincial Park, Salt Spring Brewery, Salt Spring Goat cheese farm.
Thank you Troy and Megan for creating the perfect getaway!
We're so glad you had a good time on Salt Spring! Henrik and Jenny, it was a pleasure to meet you two, and thank you for the interesting chat.
Hope the rest of your trip is great.
Retreat with all the extras!
I had a wonderful stay at The Roost in July 2017. Hosts Megan and Troy were wonderful. The self-serve breakfast was great! Kitchenette and supplies were perfect. The space was airy, sunny and welcoming. Fresh eggs, juice and fruit! Coffee, tea, butter, and jelly! Very nice touches throughout. They accommodated my gluten-free needs with gf bread and granola. Megan and Troy provided lots of island tid-bits and options of things to do. Saturday Market was awesome! Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend for quite retreat or island activites!
The popular Salt Spring Market runs from the end of March until October every Saturday in downtown Ganges. You will find everything from organic produce to fine jewelry. There are winery tours, a craft brewery and a cider brewery. You can drive yourself or take a tour with SaltSpring Tours. One of our favourite activities is to spend an afternoon visiting one of our local farms. At Salt Spring Cheese you can visit with the goats on a tour through their barn and view workers putting together their many delicious varieties of cheese. Once you've toured the farm you can sample cheese in their shop, or buy some and sit on the patio to eat and enjoy the beautiful garden. They also sell hot and cold drinks and Fruitsicles, which are a favourite with Island children. An impressive view can be found by driving up to Mt.Maxwell Provincial Park. It's about a 20 minute drive from our property, some of it on dirt roads. Once at the top there is an amazing panorama of the South end of Salt Spring, Vancouver Island, even the San Juans.
