Mokki: Dovetail Log Cabin, Downtown

Bedrooms 1
Space 348 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Mökki is the perfect mix of cozy log cabin and hip downtown life.

Mökki, a Finnish word for cottage, was hand crafted by the owner and is a masterful work of art. Enjoy some down time on the front porch or cozy up in the sleeping loft - this place has a lot of charm.

Surrounding the cabin is a large yard with garden beds and plenty of tree cover.

The cabin sleeps up to 3; there is 1 queen bed in the loft and 1 pull-out futon on the main floor. Please note that the stairs to the bedroom are steep - it is not a ladder so rest assured that the steps can be descended normally, aka by facing forward.

The kitchen is equipped with a two burner electric stove, a mini fridge, a microwave, pots, pans, silverware, dishes and glassware. For your coffee you can choose from a drip cone, french press and a coffee maker.

Guest Access:

As guests, you'll have private access to the cabin for the duration of your stay. Grounds keeper will be periodically tending the garden.

The Neighborhood:

A quaint, walkable area, the cabin is nestled just across from the local library and one street away from lake Superior and the old Gunflint Trail road.

The beauty of this cabin lies not only in its charm, but also in its accessible location. Shops, restaurants and the beach are just a short walk from the cabin. You can head up the Gunflint Trail with access to the Boundary Waters by car just minutes from the house.

Quaint, fit our needs, rustic

  • 4 of 5

Has everything you would need. Forced us to live in a very small space, but we really liked it. Walking distance to everything. Wished the heat would have been explained more. It was -40 when we stayed. Overall we would stay again.

Absolutely everything we hoped

  • 5 of 5

The Mokki was so relaxing and charming. It is a cabin experience that I would not hesitate to do again. All you need is here and very comfortable. We didn't have to use our car once we unpacked as the Mokki is easy walking to all the entertainment, shopping and the beauty of Lake Superior. Enjoyed our stay very much.

This small cottage is perfect for a stay in Grand Marais. Located a block from the business district, yet it is on a quiet street with interesting neighbors. Purpose-built with a "not so big" philosophy and Scandinavian esthetic, it is a welcome change from cookie-cutter motels or awkward conversions. It is not for everyone's taste–it is very small–and the loft is virtually open to the main floor, you had better get along with your traveling companion!

Tree house comfort

  • 4 of 5

This cabin/cottage is charming, cozy, clean. The location to the Art Colony, library, and brewery pub is exceptional. No water view, but a charming neighborhood location in the trees. There are children at the home nearby, and they are out in the yard and on trampoline, so that can be a distraction for some if you are out on the porch side of the accommodation. I would stay again. Very nice.
