Great island; amazing condo & complex!

Come and enjoy the beautiful island of Maui and our relaxing, one-bedroom, condo in Kihei. Our home has recently been renovated with new cabinets, built in desk, granite counters & new design. Plus, a new walk in shower, built-in microwave and dish washer (Nov of 2012).

We are located within 300 feet of the ocean where you can enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets in Maui; take a relaxing walk on the beach and enjoy watching the Wind Surfers. Better yet, give windsurfing a try yourself!

We have a lovely lanai, with lovely patio furniture, for your enjoyment and relaxation while viewing Haleakali, to the NE and the ocean to the west. We are located near many of the most beautiful snorkeling spots in Maui.

There are many restaurants, convenience stores, shops and a grocery store within walking distance.

Kihei Gardens Estates is a quiet and peaceful complex, well maintained and full of Aloha Spirit. It is a beautifully landscaped property with an inviting pool and spa area. There are barbeque grills, kitchen facilities and tables located in the gated pool area for your use and enjoyment.

Our condo is an extension of our home and furnished, with a Hawaiian theme, for your vacation enjoyment.

Hi - My name is Sandi and I LOVE Maui! Imagine that! My favorite time is walking on the beach! Yep! You've got it - right there, 300 ft away from our condo! I call it 'Sandi's Beach'! I have had so many wonderful experiences walking that beach, from seeing whales, collecting sea urchins, collecting shells, finding shells of lobsters, to some of the most beautiful sunsets in all Hawaii!

I work really hard to keep my condo updated and a warm, cozy, family atmosphere! I want it to be your "home away from home"!!

Fabulous relaxing family vacation spot

Thanks so much Sandy for sharing your condo. We had a great time being able to share Maui with our grandkids. Visited many fabulous beaches and had a wonderful time snorkeling in Wailea which was just a few miles away. Local stores accessible for supplies. We were so pleased with the beach accessories available to use and easily packed lunch and drinks for our day trips around the island. Loved walking the beach just steps away early mornings and evenings. Calm ocean to swim early in the day. Loved the pool and spa as well as having the laundry steps away. All the folks we talked to on the property were very friendly. we slept very well on the comfy queen bed and the sofa bed too. Very lovely home away from home. Can't wait for another trip to our favorite island. Thank you Sandy! Doug & Krista

Nice vacation space but not perfect

This tidy and clean one bedroom condo is in an excellent location, a half block from the beach and from the nearest grocery store. The property has a central grassy, treed courtyard which many units face into, but not this unit, which faces the street at ground level. The lanai is large, private (separated from the street by a hedge), has a screen against the sun if necessary. The sidewalk is not more than ten feet away fromSun does not enter the unit itself so it remained reasonably cool throughout the day. The pool is kept at a wonderful temperature so it is lovely to stay in for long periods. Brenda, who services the unit for the owner, is terrific: she responded to our several needs immediately. The unit appears as shown on the VRBO website.

On the down side, the interior of the unit is a bit dated, and the household provisions are just adequate. From the bedroom we heard the coming and going to the adjacent shared laundry room, and the suggested respectful hours are not always heeded. The hair dryer was not working (and was replaced immediately) and the steam iron was so dirty (also replaced immediately) that it stained a top I had just made a few weeks before. Dishes, cutlery and utensils are a very mixed collection of styles. There is lots of bedding and towels in the cupboards, all somewhat worn, but there is caution against using "extra" linens beyond what is laid out. The kitchen was missing a few basic implements that we noticed: vegetable peeler, dish rack for had washed dishes (there is a dishwasher too). We left a note to the owner outlining our impressions so this may all be rectified.

There is an awkward aspect to mention as well. There are a lot of disadvantaged and homeless people in Hawaii, and one can run into them on any island, in a variety of places. The street that this unit faces (Lipoa) is one. During the day, they come and go, and hang out, between the beach and the food store, some in a variety of states of orderliness, and often speaking loudly and using language that we wished we were not hearing so regularly during our holiday. For the most part they are completely harmless and non-confrontational. Aside, one unit owner cautioned us that a guest had been robbed (not injured) while walking alone one evening on or near the property.

I do not relish writing this review, but VRBO has sent repeated requests for a review so I am providing what we experienced. Although the property was fine, we will not use it again.

Owner's Response: Two rebutals: This unit has been completely renovated over the past 5 years & things are updated on a regular basis. Also, we live in a time where there are homeless everywhere, especially in perfect climate areas. I guess you can go to our major resorts, where their prices help eliminate 'some' of this issue. I am very proud of my condo, area and complex!

Well care for, friendly, clean, quiet condo close to the beach.

A great place for our family vacation. We enjoyed being close to the beach, and the pool and hot tub were great. It was nice to be ground level and have our own hose to rinse off the sand. The condo was nicely furnished and set up. It had everything we needed for cooking except we couldn't find the cheese grater. Plenty of everything else we needed for cooking and a reasonably priced grocery store right behind the condo. We appreciated the many towels and the beach chairs and cooler. Just what we needed. We liked the location, there were some homeless people around this area but it added interest and reality to our trip. We always felt safe and no one bothered us. The neighbours and care takers were very friendly. It was a perfect vacation for us.

Lovely home, good location

This property exceeded my expectations. I imagine it was recently renovated and is well maintained. Well supplied kitchen re: appliances and utensils (a kettle would have been handy, but we used a pot - no biggie). I enjoy cooking so it was a treat to have decent knives that were sharp for a change. Very happy to have a plastic cutting board instead of those glass ones that Hawaiian condos always seem to have and are terrible to use. Thrilled to find salt and pepper, left over spices, vinegars and a huge bottle of salad dressing so I didn't feel regret about leaving a nice bottle of olive oil behind. Tons of rubbermaid containers of all sizes which made packing for picnics and storing leftovers simple. Great beach chairs - beach umbrella would have been appreciated, and there were lots of beach towels. Next to the laundry room which was handy, but not noisy in the least. Enjoyed the central hot tub in the cool, windy evenings. Made use of the community bbq and book sharing cupboards. Found the location central and convenient as we explored quite a bit of the island, from Lahaina up to the Blow Hole at Nakalele point to Makena's Big Beach. Visited the beach at the Four Seasons where we tried out stand-up paddle boarding for $40.00/ hr and rented lounge chairs and umbrellas - talked him down to $25 for the day. Lunch at the resort was delicious though very expensive. Did the drive around the island, through Hana (I would recommend staying in Hana for two nights, too much driving in two days if you stay just one night). You don't need to rent a jeep, we did it in a mustang convertible with no issues other than when we stopped for coffee in Hana where there was a steep rise from the road then down a steep lot. The car bottomed out in the entrance and the exit. If you rent a car, be careful if they tell you on arrival you can rent a convertible for a mere $29.95 a day. This turned out to be on top of the cost we had previously accepted online for a compact car. We did come to an agreement, but it was unpleasant and stressful. As mentioned in previous reviews there was some chair scraping and children's running footsteps from above one morning, but that's vacation condo living. If you want complete silence you can rent a house or stay at one of the posh resorts for $700.00 a night. This was our first visit to Mau'i and I would stay here again and recommend this unit to anyone visiting Mau'i.

Some smaller issues with your condo, but some were beyond your control.

We have stayed at various Kihei Garden condos in the past, and have always been a little concerned with regard to potential traffic noise from the end of Lipoa street. Unfortunately, the road noise was what we kind of expected, but not a deal breaker. A couple other noise incidents due to other Kihei Garden guests, but we do understand that you have little control over other guests. As you know the laundry room and washing machine is about 4 feet away from the bed in unit 103, and 1 guest did begin their laundry process at 5:00AM one morning. Also, condo above us must have tile floor throughout unit, and tenants would drag furniture around at all hours of day or night. 1 medium sized cockroach was found on kitchen floor 1 evening. When we first arrived, the toilet would slowly constantly drain the holding tank, so it would constantly refill about every 15 minutes day and night. Reported this to Brenda, and it was quickly fixed. The bed was extremely soft compared to what we are used to, but we did manage to adapt over the 4 weeks.

We did have a great hoiliday and stay, but would likely not return without knowing there was a little firmer mattress in place.

Owner's Response: Aloha I am very sorry for your 'smaller issues' during your stay at my unit. I have done, & continue to do, everything in my power, to make my guests stay enjoyable. Unfortunately, with it being a downstairs unit, there will be a certain level of noise, on occasion, from renters in the unit above. Although II can't control that, when EXCESSIVE, it can be reported to our on-site property Manager & he will address the issue with the current renter. He definately can address useage of the laundry facilities during OFF hours, IF reported. These hours are posted but if management is unaware, there isn't much that can be done to address the situation. As far as my matress is concerned, I just purchased a very nice NEW matress. Unfortunately, that is an item that is quite difficult to please everyone's taste. I got one that I felt was not too soft & yet not too firm! You are the first that has voiced being unhappy with this new matress (bought last August). I'm really sorry you did not enjoy it. Others have complemented me on it. Glad to hear your situation with the toilet was promptly resolved. That is how we usually take care of problems with our guests. We really strive to keep our guests happy! Thanks for your input. Awesome Condo

We moved to Maui from MN in September and stayed at your beautiful condo for 2 months. Everything in the condo is so well furnished and stocked. You have certainly maintained it well. The only suggestions I would have would be to suggest to the owners above you to put carpeting down so you can't hear the chairs scraping on the floor everytime they were moved and the general walking around. I realize with being on ground level you will have noise above you, but at 4:30 in the a.m. it was a little frustrating. The people in C104 were quite annoying, always harassing us about our smoking, even when we were out on the street away from everyone. We seldom smoked on the lanai due to their harassment. The woman even flipped our burgers on the grill one night because she thought they were burning! Always repeating the rules of the complex. Aside from that, we met a lot of nice people who live near your condo. Brenda is a sweetheart, took care of any issues we had.
