Tranquility of River Shoals through windows all around/Sleep sounds&Deck Views

View a drone video by swiping the foto above to the Left for overview. Our Great Reviews say it all - check them out!

Sit in the great room with windows all around or out on the deck and watch the Nantahala River Whitewater Adventurers, Fly fisherman & Great Smoky Steam Engine & POLAR EXPRESS TRAIN go by. The tranquility and peacefulness of the River House can't be beat for a relaxing stay. Certainly the lowest prices for "on the river lodging!" -read our reviews!

The Nantahala River has Nationally ranked Trout fishing - Raft-Guided or on your own - THE river with the best population of native Rainbow & Browns along with great stock population - North Carolina state record Brown caught just up-River from the house! Cast right off the back deck! Whether you are visiting to go rafting, to explore shopping or great Flea Markets in the area, to hike in the great Smokies for Views or waterfalls, mountain bike the trails at Tsali, golfing or just want a getaway, this unique house will deliver and charm you. Pan for your own Ruby Mine is just down the road, Horseback riding, zip line, high ropes course, wall climbing and Cherokee and Murphy Casinoe are all a short drive! Nantahala Outdoor Center is just a mile down the road with a great restaurant overlooking the river and world class outfitter store. Motorcycle "Mecca" - Tail Of The Dragon is nearby - Our house is on a short loop from Deals Gap through Robinsville and along the Entire Nantahala River then back via the "serpents winding" Hwy 28 to deals gap again! Plenty of protected parking for your cycles under the house. Covered parking for 2 cars or plenty of motorcycles! Whittier (next town) has 3 Golf courses! . **IMPORTANT notes: The house is 2 story and built on pylons (see the photos!) - so climbing stairs is a requirement and if you have never stayed at an elevated beach house be aware you can feel movement in any structure built on pylons. We offer discounts for week or monthly stays! Can’t stay a full week? - message us for custom discounts on 5 or more days. VRBO now blocks phone numbers until after you reserve but you can reach us at area code (704)and prefix 488 & 2386. The internet access is through your own devise only - great reception from Verizon for voice and data but we do not provide internet, nor is there any TV reception - videos are available or bring your favorite movie on disk. The other cell carriers have very limited coverage in this area. We highly recommend you print out directions and check-in information - reception in the mountains is spotty for all cell and GPS devises, Siri and your other guidance devises are unlikely to work as you are accustomed to! Mostly we hope you enjoy an 'unplugged' vacation - nothing beats it!!

We do require a current phone number for security reasons, so if you do not enter your phone number in your reservation request it will be delayed until we have a phone contact to be able to reach you. Thanks for your understanding.

About Nolan Whitesell & Sudi Lenhart

We completely renovated this home in 2016. We have loved the Nantahala River and surrounding area for many years and treasure time there. We have been avid whitewater boaters, mountain bikers and all around nature lovers - running a rafting business there starting in the 90's. We enjoy offering our River House for others to enjoy and would very much appreciate feedback on how we can improve your next stay! Please leave a review on VRBO for us. The listing shows as "new" because VRBO does not allow transferring from another account, so the many positive reviews from before do not show, please leave one for future renters to see. Thank You!

Nolan Whitesell & Sudi Lenhart purchased this cabin in 1990

Why Nolan Whitesell & Sudi Lenhart chose Bryson City

The River House is riverfront - right on the river - watch the whitewater boaters go by during day: "own" the river by yourself in morning and evening hours. Cast your fishing line right off the back deck, best native rainbow & browns as well as stocked! It is one mile from NOC Resort and 15-20 minutes from Tsali Mountain Bike and Horse Riding trails and Zip lines, high ropes course and both Cherokee and Murphy Casinos nearby. Ruby mining, waterfall hikes & most any other outdoor activity you can think of is nearby!

What makes this cabin unique

The River House has much to offer: outside grilling area and picnic area right by the river. Inside the kitchen and great room look directly out onto the river. Bedrooms are upstairs-- allowing quiet for those needing rest if others are awake downstairs. The master has a king bed, with memory foam topper. The smaller bedrooms suitable for adults/ children. There are two full baths - shower upstairs and a bathtub with shower downstairs.

Gorgeous views on the Nantahala

  • 5 of 5

This unusual home on pilings located literally on the Nantahala is an excellent retreat. Our multi-generational family found it to be comfortable, complete with most tools for creating meals in the tiny kitchen--downside is that there is not a dishwasher, which would have come in handy for our crowd. There is a Keurig Vue (NOT K-cup) and a regular drip coffeemaker. It was especially helpful to have a great washer/dryer, particularly with kids. The 3 "official" bedrooms include a very small room with a set of bunk beds. We had 2 adults staying in those beds, and the top one was a bit difficult to maneuver, since it is very close to the ceiling (danger of bumped heads), but for kids it would be great. The small room with single bed off of the master was great for a child; it does not have a vent, however, so the door must be kept open for heat or air. There was even a child gate to use on the stairs, which kept the 18 month old out of trouble! The location is really wonderful, with river views all around; very secluded, although quite close to NOC. It was great fun to watch the kayaks go by, and we even had a visit from a bald eagle during our stay. Nolan was extremely accommodating and easy to work with, and our deposit was returned quickly. All in all, a lovely house in a beautiful location!

What an amazing place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for an entire week and didn't want to go home. The house is beautiful and the view is even better, a great location for outdoor activities. We went hiking and the guys did a little fishing. I would definitely recommend to friends and hope to come back again soon.

trout fishing was a blast

  • 5 of 5

We loved the view of the river. My two sons and myself went trout fishing on the nantahala and the cabin is directly on the water. The cabin is very nice and well suited for the area. We absolutely loved it.

Wonderful Location! Great House!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property 5/24/17 - 5/30/17; had actually wanted to arrive earlier but, unfortunately, the property was already booked. This is our only regret - we wish we could've stayed a lot longer than we did!

The house is in solid shape, and it has every convenience that we needed. Yes, it is elevated on pilings, and there are a few steps to navigate, but the trade-off is an absolutely magnificent view of the river, certainly the best we have ever enjoyed in all the years we have vacationed at the Nantahala.

The balcony overlooking the river is the perfect location for an early-morning cup of coffee, peacefully listening to the birds as the water ripples below. The peace of the morning soon gives way to fantastic people-watching as whitewater paddlers make their way down the river. For anyone who spends time on the river, the location is 100% unbeatable. It is a great stopping-off point, just a little more than midway between the Powerhouse put-in and the takeout at Nantahala Outdoor Center.

For those of us who regrettably have obligations back in the "real world", cell phone reception is great. There is no internet, but the cell signal easily facilitated using the phone as a "hot spot" for connectivity.

Nolan and Sudi were wonderful hosts. They periodically checked in on us without being intrusive, and responded almost immediately whenever we had a question.

In a nutshell, this was an A++ rental, and we are already planning our next stay here!
