Behind the street-side flat driveway and garage (great in winter) you'll enter the bright house from the western front deck (there is another deck off the back of the house which gets great morning light). The environmentally friendly pellet stove and central gas heat will warm you in the cold months, while the house stays cool naturally all summer long.
The loft covers over half the floor plan, allowing for good air flow and a feeling of spaciousness. Downstairs the living room, dining room and kitchen are open to each other. The 2 entrance-level bedrooms face south and accommodate up to 6 people. There is a Master Bedroom (west) with a queen bed, and a Family Bedroom (east) with a double bed and twin bunk. You can expand upstairs into the Loft which can also accommodate up to 6 with a twin bunk, double futon, queen futon (on the floor) and extra twin mattress (on the floor).
You’ll feel connected to your friends and family in the warm and social atmosphere of the house’s layout. Whether you’re cooking, relaxing on the couch, watching a movie (many old VHS videos are available at the house, or bring your own DVDs), reading (many books are available to peruse during your stay), eating, or stretching after a long day out on the mountain, you’ll have the space to do it. If quiet privacy is what you’re after, simply hide away.
The house is easy to get to even in bad weather - it is on Northwoods BLVD, the main Tahoe Donner road, which gets plowed well, and since it is at the far end of the road’s loop, there is little traffic. Also, the driveway is plowed for you on heavy snow days, so you can get in and out of the property without hassle (although you may have to shovel a berm or some walkway during or after a storm).

Carol lives in New York and is an avid skier who has not missed a season for 60 years. Ama lives in Oakland, CA and grew up skiing downhill, in recent years she took up cross-country. She loves to snow shoe, hike and backpack. They bought this lovely vacation home to have a 'home base' in the Sierra Nevada Mountains after Carol bought a condo in Park City, Utah before the Olympics. They love traveling to new areas around the country and world, but coming back to the same place year after year has it's advantages. Come visit our favorite year-round vacation spots and find out why!
Ama Greenrose purchased this house in 2001
I (Ama) found myself visiting Tahoe Donner year after year, renting different houses with groups of friends. When the idea struck to invest in a property, the answer to 'where?' was quite obvious. So I looked for a house that would accommodate a group of friends or a family or two, that had 2 bathrooms, was easy to access even in bad weather, and felt comfortable to hang out in. I think we found just the right place!
I love taking advantage of the proximity to all of the ski areas. We decide everyday where the best snow and weather are, and we go there. Then, we head to the jacuzzi on our way back home for dinner... or maybe we eat at one of the awesome restaurants at the ski areas or around Truckee, Tahoe City or Kings Beach.
As much as Winter in Tahoe is Fabulous!, Spring, Summer and Fall visits allow for hiking, biking, rock climbing, swimming, tennis, golf (I play mini, but there are several world class golf courses nearby), visiting the hot springs in Sierraville, exploring local history, boating and playing at the lakes (Donner and Tahoe).
There is always heading to State Line or South Lake for a bit more excitement, and so much more it would take too long to add it all in here.
Stayed at this beautiful home after a day of skiing. In spite of the bad weather that day, the only consolation was staying in this beautiful home. The house was very accessible in spite of snow and the indoor were very warm and cozy when we arrived. Would definitely recommend this place!
We were at Ama's cabin for 3 nights with 4 kids. The cabin is great and fully equipped! The location is so so so convenient. Very close to highway 80 so you're not driving for hours on a narrow road. Also very close to Truckee where you can go to at night to enjoy some great places to eat. Tahoe Donner is a lovely community and so kid friendly. Highly recommended for families with kids and for people looking to have fun in north Lake Tahoe. Finally, and I can't say this enough, having a garage to park your car in is just HEAVEN!!!! We hope to come back to this place many many more times. Thanks so much Ama for everything!
We've rented three years in a row this cabin for a ski lease from January to April with some friends.
Overall we had a very nice experience!
I had a tough time getting a place to stay for our skiing vacation at the end of December 2014. A couple of calls to Ama Greenrose and the matter was settled! Thanks Ama. A great place for about 8 people, conveniently located on Northwood Blvd, silent and very close to Tahoe Donner skiing area. (We went to Alpine though). The driveway is level unlike some other places where there could be an inclination. Good stock of kitchenware, a bread maker machine as well as a humidifier. The fireplace is easy to operate. One thing I would suggest is to have a new set of spoons, forks and table knives - current ones are too assorted.
Overall a nice experience. Would rent again!
We were 2 couples to rent this cosy cabin from January to April 2014.
Kitchen included everything we needed, there was plenty of space to relax and enjoy the evening after a day on the slopes... Very well located, we enjoyed the Trout Recreation Center for its sauna, hammam, jacuzzi and fitness amenities.
We'd definitely stay here again!
Rustic, but very nice house with lots of room. Located in large second home development with many
amenities and activities. Near a very small downhill ski hill, but convenient to several major ski areas.
Near excellent cross country skiing. Available summer activities include tennis, golf, swimming pool,
equestrian center, etc.
House was in good condition and clean. Nice feature was a mid-stay professional cleaning service.
Owners were easy to work with and friendly.
Nearby town of Truckee is of historic interest, and has many great places to eat. Easy access to all
the attractions of the Lake Tahoe area.
We were pleased and would consider staying again.
The house is 5 minutes from Donner Lake and 25 minutes from Lake Tahoe.
