Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 full Bathrooms, views and sounds of stream, (Sleeps 1-4)

River Rest is THE perfect place to stay for a quiet, luxury destination that is nestled beside a pristine, flowing trout stream.

Thanksgiving week, 3+ night reservations only: No Pets, adults only.

We are available for 2-4 adults (25+). (4 person maximum). We are not suitable for families with children or people who have difficulties with steps (see photos that show steps leading to the front door).

We feature distinctive traditional and antique furnishings, a hot tub, on-site fishing in a trophy trout stream, situated on a quiet, secluded lane in Coosawattee River Resort. (2 night minimum)

Push aside the laptop (although we have WiFi if you can't), cell, fax machine, and pager. Spend time strolling up and down the lane by the house, fishing in the private waters of a trophy trout stream, unwinding in the hot tub, gazing at a star-studded clear night, and bathing in the noises that surround this north Georgia retreat: tree frogs at night, the rush of the burbling creek 24/7 from the comfort of the screened porch. You deserve the rest-and-relaxation. We offer the ideal location that is secluded, yet not isolated from the amenities you need.

We are a 15 minute drive off Interstate 515 in North Georgia, a 30 minute drive from Amicalola Falls State park, a 25 minute drive from Blue Ridge, a 15-20 minute drive from several apple orchards, 10 minute drive from the fabulous Ellijay Apple Festival, and no distance at all from one of the most beautiful sections of Mountaintown Creek. It's a secluded cabin on a private drive in a REFRESHING environment that has something elegant and enjoyable for all styles and preferences: trout FISHING and TUBING in your FRONT YARD, a hot tub, a clean, mountain creek to splash in, gourmet kitchen, cozy den for the enjoyment of TV, a wood burning FIREPLACE, and a welcoming decor.

The cabin is also near other exciting, outdoor activity sites (golf course, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting).

Our creek front cabin is spacious and will comfortably accommodate 2-4 adult friends, a family of 4, or 2 couples traveling together. It's of course, ideal for a romantic getaway for two.

River Rest is nestled in a secluded area on the Mountaintown Creek: only four other cabins nearby. One cabin is next door to River Rest, the others are not visible from our property. There are no properties within sight across the creek from us, just beautiful undeveloped wooded land. All paved roads, up until the last mile before the cabin. Then, the road turns to gravel, but it is accessible for all types of vehicles. The air seems to feel just a little bit lighter and cooler, and the sleep is always much deeper and peaceful here. It's a short 15-minute drive from the Ellijay square and local grocery, shopping, and dining options.

The creek by the cabin is a TROUT fisher's local pilgrimage site and flows like a gentle river: about 60 feet wide, 1 to 4 feet deep, and perfect for fly fishing, wading, and floating. Local ANGLERS call Mountain town Creek 'one the most picturesque and beautiful trout streams in North Georgia and is quietly becoming one of the best trophy trout streams in the state.'

Enjoy the beauty of a unique, Native American fish-trap in the Mountaintown creek on cabin property. In the morning, wake to a dip in the hot tub or creek, followed by a breakfast on the porch with brewed coffee, pancakes, syrup, and local apples. At night, wrap yourself in a cotton throw on the screened porch and listen to the burbling water. Tubes for floating are provided in season.

This beautiful creek front cabin features unique, traditional décor and amenities. The first floor has 1 bedroom with a queen-sized pencil post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with shower and tub, den, kitchen, dining area with breakfast table, and screened porch and deck.

The second floor has 1 bedroom with 1 queen-sized, post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with a shower, loft with sleeper sofa, and large walk-in closet. All one-of-a-kind furnishings are selected to make you feel at home.

The screened porch has charming, white wicker furniture including a dining table that seats 4, ceiling fans, and rocking chairs. You'll want to sit and stay as long as possible to play some checkers, read a book, or dine with friends and family. The deck has a picnic table for four, and is a great spot for morning coffee.

The HOT TUB is an easy few steps from the door. It is private, faces an undeveloped creekfront lot, seats 5 people, and is accessible from the deck with a great view of the creek.

Last, and our favorite, the cabin has a small and growing 'Lending LIBRARY.' Need a book to read while you are here? Can't finish it during your stay? Fine. Keep it and return it upon your next stay. Leave a book for our other guests if you bring one of your own.

Your friends and family will thank you for selecting a special place for building memories, having fun, and relaxing. River Rest offers a home away from home. You need the rest, and you're always at home at River Rest.

About The Owner

Our family lives a short distance from Ellijay. We take pride in offering River Rest to guests, and make use of the cabin for personal use when our schedules permit.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why The Owner chose Ellijay

My family purchased this property a few years ago, after falling in love with the beauty of Mountaintown creek that flows by us as well as the quiet, dead-end lane where the cabin is located. In addition, we like the Ellijay area, because it represents a sharp departure from the cookie-cutter, over crowded, mountain vacation destinations we have seen elsewhere. Ellijay and the surrounding area offers our family ample options with regard to outdoor activities as well as the chance to be together away from the hustle and bustle of life.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin reflects the touch of an interior decorator, and our personal preferences with regard to furnishings. We think that the decor as well as the cabin location offer a unique destination for guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My cousin and I have tremendously enjoyed your cabin. Everything was wonderful! We especially liked the porch and sound of the river -- so relaxing a person can do a lot of meditating in this atmosphere. Thank you for sharing. We'll want to come back.

Excellent location, quiet, beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at River Rest. We were worried about finding the home since we arrived late night, but the directions were turn-by-turn and clear. Awesome property, just steps from a gorgeous stream that we could hear flowing from our spot on the covered porch. The inside is amazingly comfortable, well-equipped, and beautifully furnished. A terrific spot for folks needing to unwind.

Our stay was wonderful. The cabin is beautifully decorated and cozy. Loved cooking on the gas stove and warming up by the fireplace. Enjoyed the local hiking and the hot tub with a view of the river afterwards. Thank you for such a great vacation spot!

Summer to fall looking at the river.

  • 5 of 5

During my stay, I experienced the transition from summer to fall conditions from the back porch and the great hot tub. There are serious stairs from the driveway to the door, but the climb was worth it.

Beautiful place and so charming and relaxing.

  • 5 of 5

Took my wife her for our 20th wedding anniversary. Selfishly I wanted to stay here and sneak in a little fly fishing. I did catch 4!! The location is very secluded and peaceful with the river right outside the door. Great porch to sit, relax and read. Hot tub was great. We've rented quite a few cabins between Helen and Pigeon Forge and this by far was the nicest. The things we noticed the most were all the touches that make you comfortable. Coffee, filters, sugar, soap, first aid kit, library of books and videos and on and on. The owner Sarah is super responsive and obviously cares about your comfort. We have no complaints and only praises. Will DEFINITELY be back.
