Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 2 full Bathrooms, views and sounds of stream, (Sleeps 1-4)

River Rest is THE perfect place to stay for a quiet, luxury destination that is nestled beside a pristine, flowing trout stream.

Holiday weekends (e.g., Memorial Day Weekend, MLK weekend) 3+ night reservations only. July 4th week (4+ night reservations only): No Pets, adults only.

We are available for 2-4 adults (25+). (4 person maximum). We are not suitable for families with children or people who have difficulties with steps (see photos that show steps leading to the front door).

We feature distinctive traditional and antique furnishings, a hot tub, on-site fishing in a trophy trout stream, situated on a quiet, secluded lane in Coosawattee River Resort. (2 night minimum)

Push aside the laptop (although we have WiFi if you can't), cell, fax machine, and pager. Spend time strolling up and down the lane by the house, fishing in the private waters of a trophy trout stream, unwinding in the hot tub, gazing at a star-studded clear night, and bathing in the noises that surround this north Georgia retreat: tree frogs at night, the rush of the burbling creek 24/7 from the comfort of the screened porch. You deserve the rest-and-relaxation. We offer the ideal location that is secluded, yet not isolated from the amenities you need.

We are a 15 minute drive off Interstate 515 in North Georgia, a 30 minute drive from Amicalola Falls State park, a 25 minute drive from Blue Ridge, a 15-20 minute drive from several apple orchards, 10 minute drive from the fabulous Ellijay Apple Festival, and no distance at all from one of the most beautiful sections of Mountaintown Creek. It's a secluded cabin on a private drive in a REFRESHING environment that has something elegant and enjoyable for all styles and preferences: trout FISHING and TUBING in your FRONT YARD, a hot tub, a clean, mountain creek to splash in, gourmet kitchen, cozy den for the enjoyment of TV, a wood burning FIREPLACE, and a welcoming decor.

The cabin is also near other exciting, outdoor activity sites (golf course, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, white water rafting).

Our creek front cabin is spacious and will comfortably accommodate 2-4 adult friends, a family of 4, or 2 couples traveling together. It's of course, ideal for a romantic getaway for two.

River Rest is nestled in a secluded area on the Mountaintown Creek: only four other cabins nearby. One cabin is next door to River Rest, the others are not visible from our property. There are no properties within sight across the creek from us, just beautiful undeveloped wooded land. All paved roads, up until the last mile before the cabin. Then, the road turns to gravel, but it is accessible for all types of vehicles. The air seems to feel just a little bit lighter and cooler, and the sleep is always much deeper and peaceful here. It's a short 15-minute drive from the Ellijay square and local grocery, shopping, and dining options.

The creek by the cabin is a TROUT fisher's local pilgrimage site and flows like a gentle river: about 60 feet wide, 1 to 4 feet deep, and perfect for fly fishing, wading, and floating. Local ANGLERS call Mountain town Creek 'one the most picturesque and beautiful trout streams in North Georgia and is quietly becoming one of the best trophy trout streams in the state.'

Enjoy the beauty of a unique, Native American fish-trap in the Mountaintown creek on cabin property. In the morning, wake to a dip in the hot tub or creek, followed by a breakfast on the porch with brewed coffee, pancakes, syrup, and local apples. At night, wrap yourself in a cotton throw on the screened porch and listen to the burbling water. Tubes for floating are provided in season.

This beautiful creek front cabin features unique, traditional décor and amenities. The first floor has 1 bedroom with a queen-sized pencil post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with shower and tub, den, kitchen, dining area with breakfast table, and screened porch and deck.

The second floor has 1 bedroom with 1 queen-sized, post bed, 1 bathroom which was updated recently with a shower, loft with sleeper sofa, and large walk-in closet. All one-of-a-kind furnishings are selected to make you feel at home.

The screened porch has charming, white wicker furniture including a dining table that seats 4, ceiling fans, and rocking chairs. You'll want to sit and stay as long as possible to play some checkers, read a book, or dine with friends and family. The deck has a picnic table for four, and is a great spot for morning coffee.

The HOT TUB is an easy few steps from the door. It is private, faces an undeveloped creekfront lot, seats 5 people, and is accessible from the deck with a great view of the creek.

Last, and our favorite, the cabin has a small and growing 'Lending LIBRARY.' Need a book to read while you are here? Can't finish it during your stay? Fine. Keep it and return it upon your next stay. Leave a book for our other guests if you bring one of your own.

Your friends and family will thank you for selecting a special place for building memories, having fun, and relaxing. River Rest offers a home away from home. You need the rest, and you're always at home at River Rest.

About The Owner

Our family lives a short distance from Ellijay. We take pride in offering River Rest to guests, and make use of the cabin for personal use when our schedules permit.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2005

Why The Owner chose Ellijay

My family purchased this property a few years ago, after falling in love with the beauty of Mountaintown creek that flows by us as well as the quiet, dead-end lane where the cabin is located. In addition, we like the Ellijay area, because it represents a sharp departure from the cookie-cutter, over crowded, mountain vacation destinations we have seen elsewhere. Ellijay and the surrounding area offers our family ample options with regard to outdoor activities as well as the chance to be together away from the hustle and bustle of life.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin reflects the touch of an interior decorator, and our personal preferences with regard to furnishings. We think that the decor as well as the cabin location offer a unique destination for guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My cousin and I have tremendously enjoyed your cabin. Everything was wonderful! We especially liked the porch and sound of the river -- so relaxing a person can do a lot of meditating in this atmosphere. Thank you for sharing. We'll want to come back.

Just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at River Rest. We loved it so much the first time that it was a no-brainer to return this year. I did not even search for another rental but went straight to this one and hoped it was available. So thankful it was!

We own an accounting and tax practice so after the rush of meeting the April filing deadline, we are mentally and physically exhausted. My happy place/rejuvenation destination is being surrounded by peace and quiet and nature. River Rest meets the mark. We personally believe the owner's have the best location in the area. What a find!

The cabin is located on a quiet dead-end lane. No traffic. The porch and deck overlook the bubbling mountain creek. I love that sound and could sit and listen to it for hours. The temperature this visit was a little too cool to venture in to the creek for fishing/wading, but the hot tub was warm and waiting for us when we arrived. So relaxing.

The home inside and out is very warm and inviting. We enjoyed a cozy fire in the fireplace every evening. The owner's have thought of just about every thing you could need to feel comfortable and we did. Thank you for the supply of firewood and the little blocks of fire starter, a time saver. lol :)

We have been asked by friends where we stayed when they see our pictures and hear us talk about our vacation. Honestly, I'm a little reluctant to say for fear it may become so popular I won't be able to rebook. But that would not be fair, so we highly recommend the River Rest Cabin to anyone looking for a secluded, peaceful, mountain getaway. This is it!

Owner's Response: Dear Swinsons. Thank you so much for your beautiful and detailed feedback on what you appreciated during your recent stay with us. I can only imagine the work hours you push through leading up to the April tax filing deadlines, but am thankful you were able to decompress at River Rest! We are grateful for so much, especially for guests like you! We'll see you next April!

The cabin had everything we needed

  • 4 of 5

The cabin had it all. Everything from a crokpot to a tortilla press. We used the umbrella on a rainy day to see Ellijay. We did not like how you have to get in the gate each time (besure you have ALL your info each time) and we would have liked a fire pit outside but we got by. But this cabin has ANYTHING you need plus it was spotless. The bottle of wine and red rose they put out for my new bride was perfect. I would like to see the bank cut to get to the river but over all we are more then happy with our stay. We would come back and will i am sure. I will add you should go to the Bigfoot Museum and the consolidated goldmine. EVERY shop we went into was great and always told us of another place we should go.

Owner's Response: We thank you for your lovely review, and the way you mention some of the local places you visited as well as the particular ways we have appointed the home. We were thrilled to be your honeymoon destination, and so glad you enjoyed the wine and rose we left for you upon arrival. Most of our guests value greatly that Coosawattee River Resort--a 4,000+ acre wooded property--is a gated community, meaning anyone who is not an owner must pause at the Gate entrance to verify they are a guest of a property owner. This quick process offers everyone the security of restricted access. We too love fire pits on properties where their is ample cleared space on flat terrain. At River Rest Cabin, we do not advertise the availability of a fire pit and have no plans to clear the wooded lot in order to facilitate one. For the anglers who stay with us, we maintain easy access to the stream by keeping the vegetation on the bank gently trimmed: cutting into or structurally enhancing the bank on a year-round trout stream is prohibited where we are. Best wishes and we look forward to having you back, perhaps for an anniversary!

What a great little cabin!

We spent four days there and had a fantastic time! The cabin is great for one or two couples, I would"nt take more than that. Very clean and updated. The best experience there was the owner, Sarah. Sarah was very responsive and easy to communicate with.......if she lived in Alaska, i"d still by ice from her. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thanks for sharing about your experiences and enjoyment of the property and for putting a smile on my face today! Thanks too for being our guests and for mentioning the ideal capacity at River Rest Cabin: we too know River Rest is perfect for 2-4 people altogether, which is why we list this as our guest limit. We truly look forward to having you back, we'll leave a light on!

Spring Break with the family

  • 5 of 5

This property is located in a beautiful location directly in front of a trout river. My son and I waded in the river and he learned how to trout fish. After fishing, we enjoyed the hot tube relaxing listen to the river flow enjoying the fresh mountain air. The cabin is clean and decorated with excellent furniture full of all the items you need. Cooking and eating utensils, washer, and dryer, and the beds provided an excellent nights rest. During our stay, we saw deer and wild turkeys adding to the natural setting. My wife prepared wonderful dinners and we enjoyed the fireplace after our days of activity. Within a short drive to lots of activity such as horseback riding, tubing, more fishing location, a scenic train ride, and shopping. The best property location at River Rest! The Hazbecker's

Time moves to fast at River Rest.

  • 5 of 5

In a matter of no time our vacation was over. We had a relaxing 3 night stay at River Rest but we wish we'd booked it for longer. Me and my wife got to both relax and read a book on the beautiful screened porch until the kids next door got up. Then we went inside the cute decorated cabin and read by the fire. I only got to fly fish for about 30 minutes due to four or five small kids staying next door. They had the fishing wrapped up our entire stay, but they looked like they were having a blast. We enjoyed the hot tub and the sounds of the creek at night. Our time at the cabin was just over to quick.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for sharing your experiences at River Rest. We love hearing how our guests are able to unwind and enjoy the property and surrounding area in a variety of ways. Sometimes our "little" neighbors remind us of the simple joys of life. Wading, fishing, splashing, and more are all part of what makes Mountaintown Creek so inviting for people of all ages. We loved having you as our guests!

Our stay at River Rest

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our stay at your cabin. The sound of the river was relaxing. We enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace. It was a great time to relax and get some much needed rest. The bedrooms were very nice and comfortable. on a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 10. I only wish that I had made the stay longer when we booked it.
