Although Athens is the highly regarded hometown of the Dawgs, it’s much more than just an awesome college town. Visitors will love strolling through campus and cheering on the red-and-black at one of the town’s many football bars, but Athens is also one of the most predominant cultural hubs in the state of Georgia.

The city boasts iconic historical establishments like the Morton Theater, one of the first and still operational vaudeville theaters to be built, owned, and operated by an African American. Other notable institutions of the arts include the Georgia Museum of Art and the Georgia Theater. USA Today named Athens as one of the most underrated food destinations in the country, and you’ll want to take an extensive food tour of the local spots to understand why. Follow that with a bar hop to popular breweries and you’ll know why Athens is loved by locals, visitors, and college students alike.

Buyer beware!
The property is nicely located and perfect for activities in Athens. Our problem was the management company, Grand Welcome. When we arrived the unit had not yet been cleaned….. trash everywhere, dirty dishes, a filthy bathroom, etc. When we called the management company the team member asked us to send pictures for verification and said a case would be opened. This company is not local and was dismissive of my concerns. When I asked to be called with an update she told me housekeeping was on it's way and then hung up on me. I called back two hours later and fortunately got another team member who was able to let us know we could check in at 9:30 pm. Check in was supposed to be at 4. When we arrived for the second time, the refrigerator was still full of old food, a gross toothbrush and empty toothpaste was on the bathroom counter, there was a dirty sock on the kitchen table and our parking pass was nowhere to be found. (Their check in information states that a pass must be displayed or the car will be towed). I called back to Grand Welcome to report the condition of the house and ask about the parking pass. It was after 10 when she finally was able to let us know that passes are only needed for football weekends. Extra concerns involved a passcode that is obviously never changed and flooring that needs to be replaced. I will never again rent from VRBO if the host uses Grand Welcome as its management team.

Not great
Good location but the property was a disappointment. It smelled musty, the flooring installed was really bad with huge gaps, the master bath toilet could not raise the lid because a towel rack shelves was in place not enough clearance. Front light as not working and made entry difficult in the dark. There were no blinds in back windows and doors so you had no privacy into parking lot.

Homecoming
We always go to a basketball game for my father's birthday. This year's trip was a two-fold blessing because he has family in Athens! He was able to see his last living aunt and some of his cousins he had not seen in over 30 years. Moreover, our host provided 2 additional tickets and a parking pass for the game! The place suited our needs and we will definitely consider staying here on return trips.
