Four of us spent 4 days in New York CIty following a New England Cruise. THis home was the perfect spot for us! Great location just outside of the busy New York CIty streets, and yet so close. 10 minutes with subway to Time Square!! A 5 min walk to the subway from the home. The home offered great accommadations; beautiful kitchen, living area, bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with an outdoor patio. Safe neighborhood with a good variety of reasonable restaurants, grocery store, boardwalk along the East river, and easy access to the city!! Much, much better than any hotel could offer!! We'll be back!

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We stayed at this house four nights in September to attend my daughter's wedding. The wedding venue, The Foundry, was five minutes away in Long Island City. Our experience could not have been better! There were six of us staying so the three bedrooms worked out great. The location was terrific and the pictures are accurate but really don't the house justice. It was far more spacious than I expected. The property was very clean, well maintained with a fabulous kitchen. One of surprises was the property layout relative to the street. The house is set back about 50 to 80 feet from the street making it very private and quiet. There is a courtyard in front that would be excellent for small parties in good weather. The main floor is also great for entertaining. If you have issues with stairs note that the bedrooms are above and below the main floor. Another accurate description is proximity to the city. You are four or five blocks from the Vernon Blvd Subway stop (#7 train), one stop across the river from Grand Central Terminal, two from Bryant Park, in the center of Midtown. Access to anywhere in Queens and Brooklyn is excellent and very close. You would never need to leave the neighborhood for good restaurants, delis, casual restaurants, diners, a coal fired pizza place (Bella Via), great bars, a very nice grocery store, and a high end wine and spirits store. All of these are within walking distance in a neighborhood that seemed safe to walk around in after dark. It has the feel of a very nice, diverse neighborhood without being over-the-top hipster. If you drive, there is plenty of street parking but you will drive around in the evening and late afternoon to find a spot. Parking was relatively easy for NYC. There is a garage that is walking distance that I didn't use but is a fraction of the cost of a garage in Manhattan. I parked on the street for 5 days and didn't get a ticket; a new personal best for NYC! I will recommend this to friends and will stay there anytime we are with at least one other couple. You can't get a hotel anywhere near as nice for this price if you split it with another couple. And, like Manhattan, you can park your car and use public transportation for all your sightseeing. There's even a ferry within walking distance of the house to take you to across to Manhattan or down the river to Brooklyn. The management was very flexible and easy to work with and answered questions promptly. This is truly a home away from home in NYC.

This home is perfect for two couples. Lots of room with 3 floors. A short walk to the subway and a short walk to the beautiful park with the best views of Manhattan. There are lots of books and maps in the house . A really nice grocery store around the corner with lots of good fresh produce. A really good Thai Resturant called Tuk Tuk just a short walk from the house. A very safe neighborhood. Don't be afraid to go out at night. The house is very quiet inside even with some construction close by. The house feels like a home and not a stuffy hotel room. We rent lots of vacation rentals and this one is one of the best ! You won't be dissappointed ! We will be back !!

The house was so nice and comfortable that made our first time visiting NY more enjoyable. We flew in to JFK, so it was 20 minutes taxi ride to the house ($38 + tip). The house was exactly as described on Vrbo. The kitchen was absolutely beautiful and fully stocked with everything you need, except for the food (of course), for a good home cook meal. It was too bad we did not cook, but we used the kitchen island extensively. There were so many restaurants around the neighborhood; So, I did not want to mess around with the kitchen when I was on vacation. However, if you wanted to cook, there was a decent size, but a little overpriced grocery store (Food Cellar) on 47 Rd. We got our dairy products and fruits there. The beds in the bedrooms were so comfortable; I had to check out the brand of the bed in the master bedroom b/c we were looking for the new bed ourselves :-). The fact that the house was only few minutes away from a subway station (on Vernon& 50th) which was only one or two stops away from Grand Central and Time-square, makes the location of the house ideal. We definitely took advantage of the 7-days unlimited rides card from Metro. We also loved the garden in the front of the house; it was so relaxing and homey with the grape vines and many herbs. Overall, we enjoyed NY more than we had expected, and I thought it was partly because of the house. The warm and welcome of the house made us feel like at home, not at a rental property or a hotel. I would totally recommend this property to a friend or relative. BTW, the house also had ton of pamphlets and books about NY; we found them extremely helpful.

We went to Long Island City to spend time with our 2 week old grandson. We wanted to be walking distance. There are fabulous restaurants, a great grocery with ready made food as well all withing blocks. I hosted Christmas dinner for my son, daughter-in-law the new baby and her family who had come in Christmas day. What a wonderful memory for all of us. The house was exquisite but very comfortable and the library available was delightful. There is a gorgeous and extensive river front park, MOMA PS1(a very avant garde art museum), wonderful little walking neighborhoods, basketball/soccer/track facilities, and a couple of spas all within 2-3 blocks. The subway was very close (2 blocks) to pop into Manhattan. I would absolutely recommend this property. There are 3 floors so you can also "get away" from each other if one needs space. I am looking forward to returning in the warmer weather when I can take advantage of the fabulous courtyard.

It really does not get better than this....... The description is absolutely accurate; the owners display great integrity and clarity in the booking process (a must for O/S travellers to NY; the location is unbeatable in access to Manhattan and the charm and amenities in the 'hood. That is just the start. The "tricky" exercise of booking sublet NY apartments is a nightmare of vagaries when you are parting with large amounts of cash.We thought we had secured one;handed over the money for it to 'fall over' resulting in money lost (with the international transaction fees) and Christmas accommodation needs back to square one. Our party was five adults coming from around the globe to spend time together over the 2010 Christmas period. This house was perfectly designed for our needs. Plenty of room so we were never falling over each other. Beautiful appointments throughout and a library I would have loved to read my through. From our subway stop a couple of minutes walk at Vernon Jackson Boulevard the route to Manhattan was Grand Central, 5th Avenue,Times Square on the 7 line. From any of those stops the travel possibilites criss-crossing the island are endless. The G line Brooklyn/Queens crosstown took us down into all Brooklyn has to offer & again great connections further afield. I would particularly recommend this to adult families/groups; inter-generational families; as the three levels allow for privacy and retreats from one another which over an extended holiday time can be necessary! Fabulous grocery/wine/beer/deli shopping minutes walk from the house; many & varied very good restaurants/bars so close you really tend not to roam too far. We will be back. Probably will never have the white Christmas of 2010 again but in any season this would be my perfect home away from home.
