  Our family and friends (8 of us total) enjoyed 9 wonderful days at the Shogun house from 12/1-9/12 to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday. The house was spacious, well equipped, and located close to everything we needed (shopping, groceries, restaurants, etc). In addition, it is located in a quiet residential area with spectacular views/sunsets. An added bonus was that the bathrooms/showers were accessible for individuals with mobility or physical challenges. Having the downstairs with separate entrance/parking/pool access was nice for the one married couple that was in our group. The house had ample space for everyone to be together in the dining/living rooms, on the back deck (BBQing), or on the pool deck (swimming/catching rays). It was especially nice to have enough room for people to be together when we wanted to be and to go to our respective "corners" when we just wanted to "get away from it all for some quiet one-on-one" time. The Shogun House is also within reasonable driving distance for day trips to observe Sea Turtles at the Black Sand Beach, Hawaii National Volcano Park, Hilo, and Hawi. We would defintely rent the Shogun House again for a group this size. We especially appreciated Mike and his staff working with us after we discovered a mixup in return flights to the mainland and for quickly responding to our needs (wireless passcode/loose cable on one of the TVs).

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.

  Incredible experience! We were a group of 10 adults with 2 babies that came in for a wedding...the Shogun has fresh papayas and lemons growing in the garden, gold and fire sunsets sinking into the ocean and grills that we kept hot all night long as we bbq'ed and got reconnected sitting around the pool. The Shogun is big yet private, fully stocked to the brim with everything including snorkeling and beach gear for the entire group, and close to the rest of the island so getting around and out is easy. It was a great party and everyone was happy with the choice. A big mahalo to Tom for being super flexible and accommodating with all the baby gear and coordination of the larger group. Highly recommended.

  Owner response: Note: although we provide beach chairs, boogie / float boards, coolers, & beach towels, we do not supply snorkel gear. Often, previous guests leave discount store snorkel gear, however, we cannot assure proper supply or fit. Glad you enjoyed your stay; come back again! We are always happy to accommodate infants and toddlers.

  Just wanted to let you know that we totally enjoyed staying at your house these past 2 weeks. Everyone in our party had a great time. It was so nice that we never had to go out to buy toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent or dish detergent. I loved seeing all the papayas, bananas, limes and even a small pineapple growing in your yard. It was one of the best vacations we have ever had. We want to return to Hawaii someday and be able to rent your house again as it was stress free.

  The Shogun Pool house was perfect for our family gathering. There was space in the living areas for all of us to eat together and relax together, yet we all had enough private sleeping space. The pool was wonderful and the gardens around the house made it feel quite private. And, it was a great place to watch the sunsets. It was great to have a place to come "home" to after our daily adventures. We left feeling that we had made the right choice for our 50th wedding anniversary.

  The home was a good value compared to a resort. The pool was nice. Our kids used it almost every day. The abundance of supplies was fantastic. We have rented homes in Florida on several occasions and this house was wonderfully convenient, the supplies were abundant, the beds were comfortable, the view was great, and check-in and out couldn't be easier.   We are back to Japan yesterday. We thank you very much for your arrangement. The Home was just perfect for our family, spacious, BBQ, pool, appliances and the view was truly breath taking. It was a short stay, but we enjoyed everything very much. We would definitely like to go back to your home again someday.   This house is equipped with anything you need for a relaxing vacation -- beach towels, bath towels, boogie boards, fully equipped kitchen, two washers, two dryers and detergent! The list goes on! We would return to this home if we ever made our way back to Hawaii. - Julie S., Novi MI, June 2010

  We enjoyed our stay at the Shogun House very much. The house is beautiful. We loved the view. Everything from paper towels to toilet paper were all stocked up. The 2 washers and dryers were especially helpful as we had to do laundry everyday with the kids swimming and at the beach constantly. The stores were close, even the urgent care is just down the street. We had the best time snorkeling at Kahaluu park, which was very close. Overall, we would strongly recommend this place to anyone that wants to take a family vacation. We loved the location of the house.
