Built in 2004 by three friends who needed a place to get away from all the hassle and fast pace of the real world. When we just can't take it anymore we go to the NUT HOUSE to regain our mental wellness. Now we are willing to share this get-away with you.
The original cabin dated back over two hundred years. We replaced it with a new, three bedroom real log cabin with a metal roof in 2004. We figured whoever built here had their pick of the mountain and picked this spot. We believe this spot was chosen because of the breezes in the summer and the view of Grandfather and Beach Mountain in the distance, and of course the availability of well water.
The cabin elevation is 4,000 feet above sea level, delivering the cool summer days you are seeking - usually 60 degrees in the AM and 70 degrees in the afternoon in August. The roads are good and easy to travel even in snow. What we like about Montezuma is the central location to everything. Skiing, fishing, horseback riding, golf and my favorite (THE RESTAURANTS), all good and close by within 5-15 minutes.
My personal favorites are the Tartan Restaurant five minutes away for a home cooked Scottish theme breakfast, then over to Uncle Lee's BBQ and Old Country Store, four minutes away for a great BBQ lunch and sometimes live blue grass music on weekends. For dinner down the mountain, 1.3 miles to the Best Cellar Restaurant for fine dining. It's next door to the spa, also a favorite stop for me.
11 Minutes to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort
1.3 miles to the River Dog Cafe/Coffee House for Wi-Fi internet connections for those who must stay in touch with the outside world.
We have three bedrooms and two baths. The master has a queen bed. The front room has two singles and the third bedroom also has a queen. There are two big sofas that sleep quite well.
We are a two hour easy drive form Charlotte, NC or Spartanburg, SC. Newland, NC is eight minutes away and is the county seat for Avery County.

Golf Getaway!

Myself and two buddies came for a long weekend of golf, and enjoyed it very much. Golf courses, and restaurants were all easy to get to. The cabin was excellent shape. Plenty to do off the golf course with shopping, site seeing, and just plain relaxing. I loved the front deck. The owners take pride in their "little piece of heaven", because everything is well kept!

What a surprise. We found the cabin to be very nicely furnished with plush leather couches and up to date appliances. Great Big fireplace which we all loved sitting around and just relaxing. It was close enough to major tourist attractions and the Blue Ridge Park way which we spent alot of time on. We will definitely go back. It was a great price for such a nicely appointed Cabin in the mountains.

The cabin was much more than we anticpated. It had all modern day appliances and was very nicely decorated with plush leather couches and very nice furnishings. It was a great location and not far from Linville or Grandfather's Mountain. It was total relaxation and we plan to rent this cabin again. The owners were very nice to deal with and left you asking for nothing. Great place!!!

My wife and I visited the Nut House for a long weekend recently, and was very impressed by this property. It was better than described, which surprised us, when considering the price. It is located in a quiet rural setting with fabulous views, but only minutes to Grandfather Mountain (5), Sugar Mountain Ski Resort (14), Blue Ridge Parkway (10) and lots of great restaurants, shopping, rafting and other activities. The home was modern, clean and comfortable with a great kitchen and an outdoor grill for enjoying romantic or family meals. I've always wanted to build a cabin in the mountains, but it's going to be a lot more affordable to just stay here from now on.

I came up for a long weekend with some family and friends. The cabin is in a great location for those that want to snow ski and shop. e skiied Beech Mountain and shopped in Banner Elk and Boone. Centerally located to everything. The cabin is a great place to bring a small group of for a romantic get away for two. We will be coming back soon!!!
