This beautiful cabin is also in an historic location. In 1849, on this site, James Savage built a store made of logs. It supported gold miners who explored the Merced River. For his protection from and to gain influence with local tribes, Savage married several Indian women. After Savage died, one of his Indian widows guided John Hite, a poor prospector, up the South Fork of the Merced to find gold that made Hite a millionaire.
