The cabin was wonderful! Clean, beautiful and spacious. We had six adults, two children, and three dogs. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and still enjoy each other’s company. It was everything we hoped for! This is a great family getaway. The cabins amenities, cleanliness, layout were outstanding. Kitchen was fully stocked and Rental Manager was very prompt in responses and receipts/information. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cabin with us. Would HIGHLY recommend this rental cabin for a relaxing vacation.

Owner response: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for such kind words. Know that they are very much appreciated. Know too you are welcome back anytime and you will be offered a great return guest discount on any of our properties. Enjoy Watauga lake in the winter with easy access to the ski slopes, during the spring, summer and fall foliage months boat rentals are offered thru the local marina's. Come enjoy Watauga lake anytime of year. With small, medium and large cabins walking distance from each other we can accommodate any size group. Until then You 'all take care - look foward to hearing from you real soon. Melody

The home was nice. It was really high up on the mountain-side - a lot farther from the water than we expected. We accidentally parked out boat at the wrong boat slip because it wasn't marked well - or maybe we were at the right slip....I thought the home was ON the water...it's not. However, it was a nice home and the kids were able to use the upstairs' bedroom/bath for their own sleeping and hang out space.

Owner response: Yes, Thrashers Nest is a fine custom built cabin with lots of bells and whistles to enjoy. You are welcome to use any of our docks at the base of the mountain road side parking makes the drive down less than a minute if you don't enjoy the walk down. Building isn't permitted next to the protected shore line of one of America's cleanest lake, nor would you capture the views seen at alakecabin4u from way down in the gully, you would have to get mtn top to see that gorgeous view. I thank you very much for your kind words and know should you ever choose to return that you can expect a return guest discount too. Peace to you and yours, Melody

We loved our stay at Thrasher's Nest! The house was everything the pictures showed, and our view of the lake and Cherokee Natl Forest was the best! The drive from lake level to the cabin was STEEP - three or four switchbacks - but that's what gave us the incredible view! Once down at the bottom, we enjoyed the lake and kayaks and canoes off the dock. I wish there had been a little more lake frontage for us to take advantage of (tough to squeeze 6 of us on the dock for sunning/fishing!), but still, a beautiful trip! I would have given the trip a 5-star, had it not been for the tougher accessibility to the lake, and the fact that there is no yard to speak of for the kids to run around outside of the cabin.

Owner response: Thanks so much for your kind words and compliments. Yes, Thrashers Nest is a gorgeous mountain cabin, it is a steep climb up but paved to your back door. You're right, the drive is worth it to get those beautiful views. Thrashers Nest dock is huge with eight boat slips where 25 people could stand on it. I'm afraid you used one of the neighbors docks, no harm though as we are friends with everyone up there and Im sure no body minded. Please plan a return trip soon, we can explore other cabins with more yard if thats something you'd prefer. With 10 cabins to choose from I'm sure we can find something thats not just wooded and more grass and field. Thanks again, look forward to hearing from you soon.

The cabin was lovely, suited our needs and seemed organized. The driveway is a challenge and adventure!! Appreciated the ease in paperwork and payment procedure. Two complaints - 1) The downstairs bathroom shower handle is loose so a struggle to turn on and hard to adjust temperature. 2) Hard to adjust the air conditioner to keep the upper level cool enough without freezing out those sleeping on the lowest level. We tried closing vents and doors without avail.

Owner response: Im sorry you had problems. I have found if you keep the upstairs ceiling fan and the AC fan running the temps even out nicely. Also, I wish you had called me about the shower handle. It is repaired and works fine, now. Glad you had some fun away from home at the lake.

We rented this cabin because it was an equal drive from Atlanta and Reston, VA for friends to meet. We had plenty of space and a great weekend enjoying the peace and quiet. It rained so we were unable to enjoy the hot tub or awesome deck but we were still happy we went. The beds were comfortable and the house was nice and clean - definite pluses when traveling!

We vacationed here to celebrate our 50th birthdays and to get away from it all! And that we did. We especially enjoyed the privacy in the mountains and the hot tub. The cabin offers beautiful views from all floors! We also enjoyed the short three hour drive from our home. We hope to come back again the the future!

Thrasher's Nest May 12-15,2011 You will not be disappointed should you choose this rental. Wonderful place, great views, clean, well stocked, and spacious. We had the whole mountainside to ourselves as no one was occupying cabins near ours. Kids particularly loved the loftroom games. Hot tub was great too, for the older kids! I wish we could have enjoyed more time there. The owner is a very down to earth, friendly fellow, respectful of your privacy. The cleaning lady (Rose) is awesome!! She spent an hour via phone and in the car, She came out about midnight to guide us in to the cabin when we missed a road and drove miles out of the way. We offered her gas money and it was politely declined.(you know she is Heaven sent!!) Thank you for a wonderful stay!!! The Myers and Joplin families.

This cabin was perfect for our weekend getaway/ski trip for 6 adults. The mountains were gorgeous; we had snow one full day and a brilliant sunshine the next. We so enjoyed the layout of the cabin and made good use of all the cooking items in the kitchen, everything you need is right there. And of course the highlight was soaking in the hottub while it snowed around us! Thank you for providing a place for us to make unforgetable memories.

                  Why Watauga Lake:
I luckily fell upon this area a few years ago and fell in love with it. The best of all worlds - fishing, hiking, caveing (I think its called spelunking), swimming off the dock, boating, and Grandfather Mountain. On the other hand, my wife likes the shopping at the outlet mall in Blowing Rock and the unique shops there and in Boone.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Stay on the 3rd cleanest lake in the nation! View the stars like you've never seen before! Enjoy eating freshly caught lake trout on the deck! Watch the WHITE DEER foraging in the valley in front of the house (was there in fall 2010) Or enjoy some of the wild raspberries in the fall.
