The coast of Maine is known for its turn-of-the-century shingle-style summer homes and Rock Crest is one of them.
Built in 1894, this wonderful old house has been owned by one family since 1926. It is located in Ogunquit's most desirable residential area on a full acre of landscaped grounds with lawns, flower beds, apple trees and tall pines. The house retains the charm and character of its era but has been updated through the years for the comfort and convenience of those who stay there.
Rock Crest has four bedrooms, three and a half baths (one with a claw-footed tub), and a comfortable sofa-bed (single) in the library. The house can sleep up to ten people. There is a contemporary, fully-equipped kitchen with an eating area that seats eight, a butler's pantry with sink and bar area, a large dining room with a table that can seat ten (or more with leaf extensions), and a spacious living room. The library is well-stocked with books and has cable TV and a DVD player. A bedroom and bath open off the library. This bedroom has twin beds which have been converted into one king size bed.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. One bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a twin bed. The second bedroom has a double bed and a twin bed. The third bedroom has an Empire style single bed.
There is a large outdoor deck furnished with tables and chairs for summer gatherings or to simply enjoy the summer breeze.
Parking is never a problem as the grounds can accommodate a few vehicles.
Rock Crest is ideally located. It is just a five minute walk away from Ogunquit's famous Marginal Way and the Little Beach, and a scenic stroll to almost anywhere you might want to go in Ogunquit -- the Village, the Big Beach, Perkins Cove, the Barn Gallery, or Ogunquit Museum of Art.
We believe you'll find that staying at Rock Crest is an experience in itself which will add another dimension to your holiday in Ogunquit, 'Beautiful Place By The Sea.'

About: In 1926, a Tulane University professor and his wife, seeking relief from the heat and humidity of New Orleans summers, purchased Rockcrest. The house stood tall on a rocky ledge looking down on a field of low wild vegetation and granite boulders. It was known in the village as 'The Scarecrow.'
All this soon changed. The house was transformed, furniture was brought from New Orleans (much of it remains in the house today), the field became a lovely garden with lilacs and apple trees, lawns and flower beds and guests were welcomed all summer long. Guestbooks dating back to the 1920s tell you in prose and poetry of the pleasure guests (children as well as grown-ups) took in the hospitable house and its gardens, the rocky coast, the vast Atlantic and its beaches, the drama of the surf, the clarity of the air and the cool sea breezes.
Four generations of our family have enjoyed the house, the gardens and Ogunquit's scenic treasures and limitless activities. Through the years, Rock Crest has been cared for and cherished. There have been many 'updates,' improvements and renovations in order to keep the house in step with the times in terms of comfort and convenience. Rental monies we receive go into a trust fund which pays for maintenance and other expenses. Rockcrest is not a business; it is a historic family home.
