Our family including 3 adult children, 1 spouse and 1 boyfriend = 7 total extremly enjoyed our spring break at this property. We put the free lift tickets to very good use everyday that we were there and soaked our sore muscles in the hot tub each evening. The two living areas were nice and many games were played on the upstairs table along with a few movies viewed on the TV downstairs. We used the kitchen and grill to fix almost all of our meals which saved us on food.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

This home has amazing views!! We soaked them all in on the big deck, played some tag and hide and seek in the wooded lot, and spent hours in the hot tub viewing the stars at night. The driveway is difficult to get up if it blizzards - be warned, you need chains. We came in at the tail end of a blizzard and even with AWD and a shoveled drive we could not get up the first night and had to spend the night at a hotel. But the owner was wonderful to work with, more than fair. This was a perfect place for our two young children (ages 6 and 4), the two of us and a grandpa in tow. Thank you for a wonderful trip!Owner response: Thanks so much for your review and stay. Please come visit us again in the summer or fall (I promise you won't need chains:) and we'll give you a repeat guest discount, thanks again for both of your reviews, all our best, David

We had such a wonderful time in this home with our two young children (6 & 4) and a grandpa! We used the hot tub for a couple hours every single night, had wonderful dinners here using the well equipped kitchen, and loved staring out at the view, either through the massive windows or from the deck. We could not get up the drive way for the first two nights due to a huge blizzard - you NEED chains if a blizzard hits! But the owner was so understanding, accomodating, apologetic and was very fair due to our inconvenience. We recommend!Owner response: Thank you so much for your review. I'm really glad to hear you had such a great stay. The spring snow this year was huge and it was the first time we had guests not make the driveway, even with 4WD and it being plowed. Of course being perched on the side of the mountain makes for great views and privacy. Thanks again and we hope you come stay with us in the future, the summer/fall is fantastic too, best, David

This beautiful home is located in such a scenic area! I was there with my son and his family. It was late and snowing when we arrived on 3/18/13. The next morning was clear with an awesome view of snow covered mountains. My little grandson was delighted to see the train in the valley below. There was so much to keep a 2 3/4 year old occupied just with the nature around the home. The family went hiking and I soaked in the sites from inside the warm home. This place is on my favorites list. I've told so many people about it. I have it on my Facebook page. Thank you for sharing this home with us. It is a work of art!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Reuben, thank you so much for your great review. We are really glad you enjoyed our home and are sharing it with others. Please come back and stay with us again and enjoy a repeat guest discount, thanks again, David

This house was great!! The open floor plan made it easy to accommodate a group of 10 people or less. The nice, big porch was a great place to hang out on a sunny day. The National Forest is literally feet away and makes it easy to hop on a trail and hike until your heart's content. I would highly recommend this house! The owner was accommodating and easy to work with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your review Abra! We are really glad you enjoyed your stay and the forest that surrounds our home. Please come visit us again sometime soon, thanks again, best, David

This house is INCREDIBLE. The view is amazing and the property is so alive. It is energizing to the soul. Sitting in the hot tub during the day is breath taking, but at night, it is cosmic. The hiking around the property is phenomenal. We will definitely be renting this property again. It was romantic for the 2 of us, but it would also be great for a big group or family.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Hi Marie, thank you so much for posting. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Totem Vista and look forward to you staying with us again sometime soon, best, David

Relaxing Vacation Week at Totem Vista Mountain Home

We had a wonderful, relaxing week in mid-August at Totem Vista! We stayed one week and made ourselves at home in this open, window-filled mountain hideaway home. The views are very beautiful--including the surrounding forest, Rocky Mountain range and small lake in the valley below. If you're looking for a vacation home that gets you away from highway and other traffic noise--even other neighbors--this is the home for you. Very private and quiet. Main sounds came from the hummingbirds and the wind in the pines and aspen trees the majority of the week. There is a train that goes by in the valley below, but we actually enjoyed seeing and hearing the trains. We enjoyed the large, outdoor deck with hot tub and grill--spent much of our time on that deck watching the hummingbirds drink from the two feeders. Our dog enjoyed watching for rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks via deck and various window views on the first and second floor of the home. We hiked right in the back of the home so that was convenient when not in mood for driving. The home is well maintained and if there is something missing or needing attention, David is quick to make it right with a friendly, can-do attitude. Kitchen is nicely equipped with pots, pans, utensils, plates, glasses, etc. Variety of Dish TV channels allowed for movie watching in evenings. We enjoyed a great dinner and sunset at Sundance Cafe just down the road. Would highly recommend Totem Vista for a family vacation. We hope to return again someday! Thanks David!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Heather, Mike and Murphy, we are so glad you enjoyed your week stay at Totem Vista and you can come stay with us again sometime soon, best, David

Stayed 5 days/nights at Totem Vista. We were a party of 5, including girls ages 26, 20 & 18. House was as depicted in photographs. Had issue with hot water heater during our stay. Owner was responsive but workers were in/out of the property almost daily (all were friendly). Were unable to utilize the 2 lower level bedrooms due to increased heat (utility room is on this level) as a result of the issues. Understandable, but disappointing. Girls were able to double up in main level bdrm & on couch. River was nice, but immediate 1 mile stretch is privately owned by a 3rd party, and is not accessible to renters. Driveway was a challenge but no big deal with a 4WD vehicle. Beautiful views. Wake to sounds of humming birds. Sunsets viewed daily from deck. Sundance Cafe outside of Nederland was fantastic eating at sunset.Owner response: It really is disappointing when something goes wrong within the house (the water heater) that I cannot control. I had repair people there immediately and the parts were a challenge to locate but we did get if fixed. Hopefully, the trip was positive overall and you'll visit us again without issues.

Traveled to Denver to visit Colorado State and Boulder for my oldest son. Great universities and beautiful surroundings. We were lucky with the weather. Staying in Totem Vista allowed us to spread out and relax PLUS host an old friend and his family for one of the nights of our stay. We loved kicking back, jamming guitars, making a big pot of chili, hoisting some red wine and sharing stories with the kids while enjoying the great views over the deck to the valley below. The hot tub was the perfect location to watch the sunset and the distant trains as they chugged across that valley. The history of this location is very interesting, also. I hope I can visit in another season and try my hand at the local fly fishing spots. Easy access to Eldora Mountain Resort for a day of skiing. WE DID IT ALL! Oh, and were helped out by a friendly neighbor when my friend slid into a snow bank. Like being at home. In all the best ways. Thanks for a clean, well-appointed, gently heated, mountain hideaway. We would visit again in a heartbeat!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: I actually purchased the land, built the house and lived there for 5 years. Our daughter was born there in our home and it's very special to us. We moved to Boulder in 2006 but wanted to keep the home in the family and now it's available for others to enjoy. Many families have found out what a special place it is.
Why the Owner Chose Nederland:
What's great about this property is that it's very private, with no drive by traffic and surrounded by national forest. There's hiking and biking trails from the home and we're close to Nederland yet it feels very remote.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our home is unique because you can actually hear the river while enjoying the huge view of the mountains, (continental divide) Since we're surrounded by national forest, we have many animals come visit and that's what inspired the hand carved 20' Totem Pole that stands in front of our home. If you want privacy, this is it, you can barely see a unoccupied cabin through the woods and that's it, no other homes in sight.
We offer a custom gourmet chef for private meals. Organic or not, vegetarian or not, great for family dinners or private parties.
