  • ABSOLUTE PARADISE off the beaten path

"On summer break, what does a family do with a 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy? What I wanted for my family was a cultural and educational experience that engaged my kids, but without them knowing they were actually learning anything. It is summer BREAK after all! I read an article about the Osa Peninsula a number of years ago, and I found Casa Bambu online. It seemed like everything I wanted for my family to experience from a vacation. I emailed Lyn back and forth (as a mother, I needed reassurances and got them), and she set up everything for the perfect getaway. And what a vacation it was! It went BEYOND our expectations! First, the absolute beauty of Casa Bambu is astounding. Every day you will see something different with the changing tides. The beautiful small storms that roll in change the landscape view and you'll witness a multitude of animals that call your front yard their home. From the spectacular sunrises, the breath-taking waterfalls, to the spider, capuchin, howler and squirrel monkeys swinging through the trees, the rainbow-colored toucans, the fearless and friendly coitis, the warm, rich smell of the earth on the "road" to Matapalo Beach, my mind is filled with wonderful memories of a place I will never forget. It was so easy for us to enjoy everything because our home was clean (spotless!) and had everything we needed to cook great meals and sleep comfortably and soundly (when the howler monkeys didn't have other things in mind!). There are maps for hiking and beach and tide information; everything was made easy for us. Lyn set up a fabulous boat tour for us out of Puerto Jiminez that was worth every penny. Four hours snorkling and swimming with dolphins on the blue-green waters of Golfo Dulce - we saw 40 times as many dolphins as we did boats. Our zipline tour that Lyn set up with Edwardo will not be forgotten either, both for the ziplining and for the fact that after telling Edwardo I had yet to see a sloth, he "located" one for me not far from where we were. Our journey to see this sleepy little animal was an adventure we will never forget! Bridges over dirt roads in Costa Rica are not for the faint at heart! Lyn and Kirk are the best hosts, always kind and helpful. They take care of and take pride in their property. William took us on two hikes, one to a waterfall with a swimming hole - FABULOUS - the other on a night hike where we saw a kinkajou. We recommend this vacation to any family and we hope to come back soon!"

  • Happy traveler

"Came down to the Osa Peninsula to seek adventure and surfing; we were not disappointed. This is a beautiful location; beach just steps from the front deck. Very clean. The staff was very helpful, and hospitable. Host provided great suggestions on things to see and do in the area. We had a personal cook come in and prepare meals for us that were very good. Great place to come if you like being close to nature but desire comfortable accommodations. If you like being around large crowds, this is NOT the place for you. Very serene, surrounded by beautiful lush vegetation and wildlife, bordering one of the most beautiful beaches I've seen with great surf."

Cabo Matapalo Travel Tips

Cabo Matapalo Beach Rentals in Puntarenas Province

Cabo Matapalo in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica is one of the smallest, most remote villages of the Central American country. The province sits on the Osa Peninsula in the southernmost section of Costa Rica. Its location makes it easy to book Cabo Matapalo beach rentals, even for a last-minute vacation. Imagine verdant forests with red, sandy beaches and blue seas as part of vacations in Costa Rica. Staying at Cabo Matapalo resorts is the quintessential holiday with surfing, diving and much more.

Big Waves near Cabo Matapalo Resorts

Surfing near Cabo Matapalo resorts is inconsistent due to the size of the waves that roll in. Some days you can have the perfect wave while the next day you have baby waves, but this is what makes Cabo Matapalo great for the entire family. Smaller children still get a chance to play in the waves on vacations in Costa Rica, while bigger kids get the ideal swells. Fishing off the beach is possible; however, for the ultimate experience, consider a deep sea fishing tour. You can surf one day and spend the next out on a boat looking back at the beach and your Cabo Matapalo beach rentals.

Walking to King Louie Waterfall on Your Vacations in Costa Rica

Vacations in Costa Rica to Puntarenas Province will most definitely need to include King Louie Waterfall. It is possible to hike from many of the Cabo Matapalo resorts to the waterfall. This waterfall has a small amount of water running down cliffs green from algae. You will be in the heart of the tropical rain forest on your excursion to the waterfall, so remember to look for Howler monkeys and other wildlife.

Cabo Matapalo Beach Rentals Allow You to Cook

Many accommodations in Costa Rica offer "lanai" decks for you to watch the sunsets and eat home-cooked meals. Every morning, you can leave Cabo Matapalo beach rentals to go fishing for your lunch and dinner. You may also want to check out the local fresh food market for fruits, vegetables, and herbs to use in your kitchen.
